Thanks for your answer! With premade coils I meant something like this:

tanks-coils-and-wicks/rda-rta-premade-coils.html

Will this work well to start with? I would like to make my own in the future but don't have tools for it and I'm totally lost, not sure what I would need.

I already have an Evic mini and was thinking about getting a knight v2 in the future, looking to use TC in my build for sure if possible.

Also decided to go for a Rafale X, seems to be the more used around here and has plenty of space to work with.

Any other recommendations? I'm a big noob so any help welcomed!

yeah i dont see why those premade coils wouldnt be a good place to start. in the long run itll be more expensive than building, but we arent talking a lot of money here. at least to try it. and the rafale x is a great choice. its my go to for sure. when i realized that the neutral post could be removed i had to try it. ive got two of them and love them. its a very high quality and well designed authentic RDA for around $20. thats a no brainer. esp one with the amount of build space it provides.

I revived my self from the dead to revive this very valuable thread. I am very much of the opinion that this works better than any of the commercially available vapor pen options out there. Nothing works better for flower rosin, these wickless wrapped wire coils burn clean every time and finish your whole dab in one hit. I wouldn't of learned how to do it without this thread, so I came back to resurrect and share my super cheap simple build.

oXwEUkw.jpg

Pictured above is a evil monk rda with a 2.5mm coil of SS316L 26x32g fused clapton wire wrapped 6.5 times on a e-leaf pico battery. It completely finishes a bb size dab melted into the inside of the coil in one go. It has true temperature control capability. The mouthpiece seals GonG joints. No wicks to get gunked up and filled with carbon and cause ramp up time. The whole thing costed less than 70$ Canadian to put together and I have enough wire to rebuild coils forever, and I probably never will even need to change the wire.

sdiw86n.jpg

^ a dab of unfiltered animal cookies flower rosin melting into the top of the inside of the fused clapton. Melt it in like this by gently pulsing the button for a second at a low wattage. It wont spit or drip at all as long as its not too huge of a dab for your coil if you load like this.

Fused clapton wire is super easy to make, and available premade from several places. Its just two wires wrapped in a wire, with a drill and a fishing swivel (2$) you can make your own coil in less than 10 minutes even if you have fumbly fat fingers. Really easy.

Don't be buying flimsy rebranded ecigs with lazy made crap coils that gunk up for over 100$ a set with 10$ replacement coils, buy yourself a simple rebuildable atomizer, some wire and wrap a clapton.

Happy dabbing folks!:peace::peace::clap::rockon::rip::leaf::science:

wtf has happened to this thread???

@Willeh... yes i find the same. a clapton (and variations of them) makes for a wick and coil in one and works better than any other currently available option. im going to get on some building and will start posting pics again.

we need to revive this amazing thread back to its greatness.

Finally got around to trying this approach. Just popped a prebuilt braided, parallel coil into Tsunami deck (the only one with big enough slots). Works great! Always afraid it would leak due to big bottom airflow tubes, but @Willeh's Evil Monk has bottom airflow. Doesn't seem to be a problem - tried with runny reclaim first.

new coil and i gotta say.... this is the best ive tried to date. it wicks like crazy, but can be a tough build. flavor in TC in amazing.

staggered dual fused clapton

Can get pre-built 316L SS 2x(28g/32g) staggered fused Clapton coils and wire. Is the Uwell Rafale still your preferred deck?

I still prefer the Rafale X to anything else I've tried, but I wasn't experimenting for a bit and haven't really looked for anything new. The Rafale X has a huge deck to build on. I looked into creating an RDA for dabbing, but after some CNC classes and classes on the software I found that it'll take much more time and money than I can commit to right now so my idea has been shelved. Sucks because the design was really nice. Lots of features for our use. Maybe ill revist it in the future. Or maybe I'll partner up with someone who is currently making RDAs. Who knows.

I have since found out that lightning vapes SS wire is shit and we should be looking for Sandvik (I'll check the spelling on that) wire. Apparently the Sandvik stuff is ideal for safety and clean as hell. Sandvik makes cutting tools and bits for CNC machinery and things like that, but also make sure. And their wire is as pure as it gets. I have not purchased any yet, but will be soon.

A stove-top sleeper on the Achilles. Tiny, but packs a punch. Need to read thread from beginning.

Lusting after Pi2 deck. Hyon might be up for a collaboration.

Thought Hyon was the maker of the Pi2 postless deck, but looks like recent collaboration on CSMNT is between District f5ive and Mystery Mod Co., described as designer of the Pi2. Might also be suitable for wickless builds.

Forgive double-post. Finished reading all 99 pages - what a remarkable thread!

Most ideas have already been developed, but what about using stainless steel mesh as the coil? A well-produced instructional video:

This might be well suited to @ixtapa's flattened-coil builds. @2clicker, did you try 316l mesh (as wicks)? If not, this might be the source of your bad experience. Also, Kidney Puncher advertises genuine Sandvik wire smelted in Sweden. @Farid, did you ever try your self-loading build?

A versatile atomizer that might be of interest: Vaporessos's Transformer.

Out of wire and concentrate, but can't wait to dive in. Was using e-juice on the go, but tolerance is too high now, and PEG raises health concerns.

Cool! Inspired to build something with materials on hand.

An ugly build and an uglier image. But clearly a winning design. Vertebraid around a w9 donut, like @Joel W.'s. Not heating evenly, but concentrates heat in the center. No splatter. Concentrate is nasty second-run QWET, so no flavor, but an overpowering hit.

Received some 316L mesh. Coiled as in video above. Couldn't be simpler - 0.19 Ohms. Seems to work fine, really sucks up the concentrate. Still waiting on new concentrate prep, so can't speak to flavor.

Found a small drop of concentrate under the donut above, and a little splatter on top, after only a few hits.

this thread really is a beaut isnt it?

yes ive been experimenting with using SS mesh as a coil/wick in one for some time, but keep getting different results. so different that i have never wanted to recommend it here so i havent, but it can work very well. you dont even have to coil it. i cut a piece of mesh about 1/4" wide X 3/4" long and mounted it flat simply with holes on the ends for the RDA screws and mounted it in a modified Goon. sometimes its the best dab ive ever had sometimes its meh...

it also kicks me out of TC every now and then, but when its working well its so good. im still messing with it to see if i can get consistent results. if/when that happens ill post pics of the build.

and yeah Sandvik is from sweden and supposedly the best wire we can be using for vaping. you say kidney puncher is selling it now?

i may need to source some Sandvik SS mesh! also that transformer atty looks nice. ill have to look into it some more.

This thread has been quite an education. It reflects the history of vaping.

Yes, just received Sandvik wire from Kidney Puncher. Have one of your Mohawk builds in the CSMNT now (could be wrong about the name). Good luck with the SS mesh. Difficult enough to find 316L. Only have enough for that one coil (but more on the way).

Can you think of any uses for these tiny quartz dishes?

well at first glance some sort of fancy wire stove top coil seems the best fit. would be better if there were holes in the dish for the leads, but it can be worked around.

whats the diameter of those dishes?

Something like a quartz banger with an e-nail heater wrapped around it? The dish on the left appears to be about 13mm diameter (thought it was 10mm). Need to find something smaller.

Just found this thread. I see people are doing some complex threading of coils, but I wanted something super simple using a single coil and just a simple wrapped coil. What I found was this guy in the video below creating a standard simple coil, turning it vertical, adding a mesh screen at the bottom, and basically turning it into a cup for your concentrate. I think this is a really great idea that is quick, easy, and cheap. What do you guys think? Any thoughts on improving it?

@blimeydude - please check the link in your first post, not finding what you describe. You can embed video by selecting the video button above your text when posting.

These inserts from SOURCEvapes might also work for the build you suggest. Planning something similar.

the cup idea is cool, but my coils actually absorb the oil so the device can be ripped upside down. this allows me to stick the RDA into a 14mm gong and rip away. a cup would leak. im just into a coil that will do everything. you can use it normally or with glass.

if using glass isnt something youre after then this may work really well. there was someone who had used a glass cup, somewhere in this thread, i believe.

Yea, that would work good. Make the cup coil thing and then put one of those little inserts in. Do you know where to buy the inserts separate? I can only find ones that are threaded and not ones with the flat bottom.

Which coil do you mean? Currently using an alien coil wrapped around a 20 AWG coil, similar to the ones in your pics. Works very well in TC, just need to dial in the settings to vaporize the whole dab. Otherwise, flavor on second hit is pretty bad.

Do you know where to buy the inserts separate?

The first ones are available separately - there's a link in the post. The dish appears to be a little wide at abount 13 mm. The second ones are from SOURCEvapes and are only sold with their atomizer. Don't know the diameter, but it looks like the atomizer is heated with a ceramic donut. That would make it about 10 mm. Of course, what you have in mind might not be that different from the SOURCEvapes product.

Spotted two appealing, inexpensive RDAs from Vandy Vapes. The Mesh:

8431801-1.jpg

And the Pulse:

8382003-2.jpg

Meanwhile, shatter loaded between stove-tops in the Transformer. Posts are next to each other and the stove-tops are each mounted vertically (requires three vertical connections).

Most of it landed on the deck.

We are on the same thinking. I'm thinking about grabbing that 24mm diameter Vandy Vape Mesh RDA and combining it with this https://www.sourcevapes.com/collect...-dabber-carb-cap-portable-enail-erig-vape-pen. I don't think or even know if that bubbler will even fit the vandy vape though, but the dimensions of the glass bubbler are below. Then using that coil cup method I posted earlier with the mesh bottom you can put that quartz insert or any insert into the cup. Then the insert will be heated up since it's surrounded by the coil and you can dab it like a rig. That vandy vape mesh RDA just makes it super simple and gives you plenty of room to accomplish this. Thus you end up with a DIY dabber where the coil is now replaceable. Thoughts?

Bubbler attachment dimensions from SourceVapes:

Metal Base Chamber
Height: 30mm
Diameters: 24mm (outer), 19mm (inner)

Metal Base
Height: 16mm
Diameters: 24mm (outer), 18mm (inner), 5.5mm (botton thread)

Need to see that video. Link above is to a RiP Trippers review. Please post the share URL.

Would the Mesh give you more room than other 24 mm postless decks? (Liked it specifically for mesh builds.) Is postless best for the build we're envisioning? The Transformer's only 22 mm, but the arrangement above frees space.

As @2clicker points out, keeping the atomizer vertical could be an issue.

So little info on sourcevapes.com. Did you find the diameter of the atomizer the glass piece fits? What do you think the advantage over the SOURCEvapes atomizer would be? A wire coil around might heat the insert more rapidly than a ceramic donut below (if that's what's used). Could be desirable. Need to buy the atomizer anyway, so you'd find out.
