Do a burnoff and then let it air out? Somebody also recommended washing the mouthpiece in warm water with dish soap. Read the whole thread few days ago, now I am waiting as my dhgate unit was rejected by chinese customs (shipped 18 days ago) so I have to wait for reship and hope for more chill customs. :)

So just grow a pair, use it, it should go? Did you hear it as you aired it ? Was thinking of blowing air through it, it stinks and tastes so bad. Was hoping it would of gone by now, I've now done 5 cycles of the battery, no herb, it still smells
You can try blowing through the intake valve when the unit is warm but I found that just using it worked best

I read through page 39 and 40 but, I'm confused on how to put the crafty cu on the vivant alternate. I don't want to mess up and if anyone could include what to do specfically. Thanks in advanced :tup:

I'm planning on doing the crafty MOD myself having had 3 cracked mouthpieces in a week. From what I can gather you will need to sand a few millimeters of the outer and inner plastic rings and the two notch's of plastic that twists the mouthpiece tight.

Thanks but pictures would be better.

Happy Father's Day folks!!!

Ok!!! For those that are having mp issues, or those NOT having mp issues AND for those that are looking for a wpa for the Alternate..... our friend @Ratchett and delta3dstudios has got a solution!!!

I purchased the "v3 Mighty wpa" for my Mighty and thought to myself...... hmmm.... with all this Crafternate talk..... lets give her a shot.

And...... BOOM. what do we have here?

Ill let the pictures do the talking but all i got to say is..... IT WORKS AMAZING!

No modifications needed. Buy, insert, vape.

Ok so I just got my @Ratchett made Vivant(just kidding it's actually made for the mighty I believe) V-3 wpa. And it works.......perfectly. As if it was made for the Vivant. As these pics from @CHIDOY shown it locks in place and everything. Thanks again for this info.

And I must admit it has totally changed the way I use this vaporizer.

I tried to do the crafternate but never got it fit to my liking. And the original mouthpiece has never had any melting issues but I never took it above 390 deg. But now I crank this bad boy up and throw it through water. Damn it really produces some vapor this way. Thank again to @CHIDOY for this info and thanks to @Ratchett for making this.

The thickness is not an issue, it's a tight fit though! I clipped the tabs with a nail clipper (not very pretty, I know) and sanded them down every so slightly. For the ring I used a 80 grit sandpaper and went to town. I recommend that you sand away a thin layer and try to fit. Do this until you are satisfied with your fit. After that I used some 1200 grit wet sandpaper to smooth it out and finally did the off-gassing (since mine was new).

Good Luck, I'm curious to see your results!
Kinda confused what tabs did you clipped off?

Hello all,

I wanted to make sure you guys know that we don't currently have an official ETA on the "V3" top caps. I gave a personal estimate earlier that the molds can take 3-4 weeks to make on their own, but more goes into the process, like investigation, design, production, etc. than just that.

I just learned this morning that these moldings started being made at the beginning of last week, so I can personally guess that we should see these top caps being given out in mid- to late August. I assume when we get the new "V3" top caps, we'll be going through the same process as we did with the current ones, where we gave them out to our customers upon email request.

In the meantime, though it might not be a permanent fix, we'll begin to roll out a sort of "V2.5" top cap as a holdover which is the same as the current one, made of PAES, but without the stainless steel metal ring. These will be used as warranty replacements until the redesigned top caps are ready.

Thank you all for your understanding and discussion. :)

-Gwen
Hi Gwen - well, I have to say that Vivant didn't seem to do too good of a job on the top cap, but I really, really, really admire they way you (and Vivant overall) come out to tell us what's going on, what are your corrective action plans, and time line. I can forgive a lot of sins with a simple apology and an effort to amend the situation.

Cheers

maybe it is time to use it with some meds... in your words...
So just grow a pair, use it

IS it possible that vivaiant alternate didt withstand normal use cause to it, it was abuse. Means it was suppose to have only 60 second turn off. So as soon peoples start upgrading and now using it 2-5 min vape section,, this become abuse for alternate as it was for 60 sec section
Just a theory...
Yes... VERY possible.
There are a dozen patients besides myself locally using the Alternate.
I am on the first version of CU, even though they sent me a newer version, I have not had to use it... as mine is not wearing out.
11 of the others are still on their 1st mouthpiece/CU.
the 12th patient is on his thrird CU, but he admits that the sessions were not long enough for his liking.... and he usually does 5-6 sessions back to back at 400+.
I do 2 sessions back to back at 390º .
I then let the unit rest for 10 minutes before proceeding.
Trying to get medicated and feel good.... not looking to be incapacitated!
Those seeking incapacitation should not be seeking a convection portable with a timer... but should rather seek a desktop that is plugged in and usable at all tempos as long as user likes, with impunity!

received my Alternate from DHGate.
But sadly, my 3 18650 batteries failed.
2 were out of my old laptop , it charges up when start using it says battery low and heat process stooped.
i think it has some kind of protection that if too much current is drawn it will fail...
last one is from a chinese usb fan,, well failed too

Ordered INR18650 25R , hope this will work for now.. i think its 20a , since slow heat up time.

@Vivant AlteRnaTE users with V2 Cooling unit, (with cracked)

Please tell me , if device still working after those cracks ?? (Obviously device heats up,am asking usability with cracked cooling unit)

I would rather stay on the safe side and use only legit 20A 18650s...

after receiving my unit from dhgate..
after airing out my unit..

Alternate has now been my daily driver for two weeks and I'm thoroughly impressed with the performance and design of this device. This vape extracts so much better than my previous MFLB-style vape and the taste is Next Level™. I also find the cleaning and maintenance of Alternate to be relatively easy & simple task with pure ISO or Acetone for the screens&bowl and alcohol wipes for the topcap. This is a game changing vape for me and I intend to introduce all my non-vaping-smoking friends to it!:)

Haven't had any major issues with the V2 topcap as of yet. The bowl side of the topcap gets hot to touch during vaping, but I've been heatsinking it against my palm and blowing air on it to combat the heat build-up and that seems to work alright.

Here comes my list of annoyances:
  • The indicator light is too small and dim to catch my attention on the table
  • Switching between Buzzer 1 and Buzzer Off is awkward and takes too much time
  • Even Buzzer 1 is annoying when people are sleeping and the device does 3 sets of beeps to notify about heated bowl *grr*
  • Sometimes the battery door needs to be "snapped" into place after closing
  • The positive battery terminal (nipple) wasn't making proper contact at first (maybe the spring is too tense? nipple not flat enough?)
  • Dirt gets inside the device from the stir tool hole
  • Hair fibers from the included hair brush have ended up in my ABV jar (it's a crappy brush?)
  • I tried to peel the plastic sticker off the grinder because it looked like it was supposed to be taken off..
  • I need another topcap so I can share the device with someone else
The next things I want to purchase from Vivant:
  1. Dosing capsules!!
  2. Extra topcaps
  3. Loading funnel

I like how easy it comes apart for maintenance. You'll need a narrow Torx T5 driver though, about 15mm in length at minimum. 3 screws for the positive battery terminal, 2 for heating chamber, 4 for the chassis and 4 for the PCB.

Using 4 x AON6512 30V N-Channel ~2mOhm MOSFETs with 2 x ADP3110A MOSFET Drivers

There is also a Creatic CT2105 Li-ion battery protection chip and a AON6411 P-Channel ~2mOhm MOSFET
which I suspect is a part of the battery protection circuitry? Chip next to the USB is probably one of the many 0.8A Li-ion charging chips on the market.

I'm no EE, but this looks like a reasonably beefy circuitry with those low-resistance mosfets and a bunch of decent sized ceramic caps. 10 Amps into 2 milliohms is only 0.2 watts of dissipation, so this circuitry seems more than adequate.

And apparently the big inductor is MAGIC

I used my temperature controlled soldering iron and a k-type thermoprobe to get an idea for the melting points of the various plastics used. The case plastic started melting at around 180-190 °C topcap plastic at around 230-240 °C and heating chamber plastic at around 260-270°C

So it seems they are using a 4-switch Buck-boost converter to power the heating element. Sadly I don't have
a better current source to test how much amps this device would be willing to dump at the nominal 4.1 volts. Anyone have extra VTC6's? ;)

DfBFhux.jpg

Alternate pulling a maximum of 11.06 Amps from a fully charged Sanyo NCR18650GA.
3.537V at battery terminals
5.151V at heating element terminals

Resistance of the heating element measured 0.70 ohms after heating to 200°C (0.50 ohms at room temp)

Alternate showed me a "Battery 3.70V" for a battery at 3.7455V, so only 1.2% off.

The low battery cutoff voltage seems to be at around 3.2 volts on my device. My battery measured 3.22V right after Alternate was depleted. A cutoff at around 3.2 volts does make sense if you look at the discharge curve of the OEM (Sony VTC4) battery. But with a battery like the Sanyo NCR18650GA, it would be nice to get a lower cut-off voltage to access the extra capacity when needed. At home I swap my batteries at 50% SOC to prolong their lifespan, but on the road I wanna be able to use all the capacity!

I love the consistent-brown quality of ABV this vape produces.
I'm expecting some potent ABV coconut oil infusions in the future :)

Overall, I think this product provides superb cost/performance. Great work Vivant! I hope you guys find a solution to the plastic quality issues so you can get to working on the dosing capsules! :2c::2c::2c:

Cheers everyone!:science::leaf::sherlock::love:

Great post j9ett. I’m gonna have to re-read it with come coffee once I’m not so vaped. Kudos :leaf::peace::tup:

Just wanted to say battery life with an HG2 in the Alternate is better than either of my 2 Crafty units ever was. I'm usually finished with a session before 5 minutes is up so I can normally get about 4-5 sessions compared to 3 with the Crafty. Also tried concentrates wrapped in cotton earlier and it worked perfectly. Totally vaped no sticky left on the cotton and the flavor was awesome. Huge clouds too.

so.. recommended battery is Sony VTC4

BUT
who cant have that
How's Samsung 30Q
CoRRect me if am Wrong but "Continuous Discharging Current: 15A"
but a lot of people seems to report that it is performing very well
and
LG HG2 its Max. Continuous Discharging Current: 20A,,
is this also performing well ??

long story short bought samsung 22r , looks like it drains 30 % to low battery before it reaches Desired temperature... Dont know if its battery problem or what so thinking to but samsung 30q or lg hg2... would this be a wise buy

With current Alternate 1.03V firmware I would rank battery performance as follows:
Sony VTC6 > Samsung 30Q > LG HG2 > Sony VTC5 > Sanyo NCR18650GA > LG HE2 > Sony VTC4 > Samsung 35E > Samsung HE4 > Samsung 25R > Panasonic NCR18650PF

The last two batteries seem like rather sub-optimal choices, considering how early they drop below 3.2 Volts. But they are also the cheapest.

30Qs and HG2s are both fine, according to the Mooch the 30Qs are slightly better. HG2s tend to be more counterfeited (or at least were few months ago) so get your cells from trusted vendor :)

Hi everyone I think my unit has developed a fault. A few days ago I noticed that when I turn the unit on from cold it's temp shows 103 degree's and climbs to around the 130 mark this is without engaging the heater. The unit doesn't heat up when it's showing this temp but I have noticed that I'm having to use it at 190 to get the same vapor is was getting at 180. For a quick test I set the unit to 100 degrees and engaged the heater as its standby temp when cold was showing 112 it beeped straight away to say it had reached temp when it was stone cold. Has anybody else encountered this problem. I have tried reloading the latest firmware and I have a few battery's none are fixing it. My friend got his alternate today and I was able to compare heat up times to 180 which were identical even though his standby temp was 20 degrees. However there was a big difference in vapor output with the same lose leaf in them any ideas guys ?
