I tend to run mine at 12.1-12.2v

Hello bud,

Just wanted to double check a few things:
  1. Are you using the VK VVPS?
  2. Would "12.10v - 12.20v" not be beyond the recommended voltage of the WS's heater, i.e. isn't 12v the maximum?
  3. Does pushing the volts to 12.20v put the WS heater under strain?
  4. How far can you push the voltage?
Cheers bud,

GH

Yeah the WS has been a vape killer for me....it K.O.'d my enano, fw4, and gh.

Interestingly enough, all three of those were on my list before I settled on the WS. Underdog as well, until I read about the warm-up time.

I swapped a standard Dynavap condenser in on Ed's WPA, and it works. I'm used to my XL VapCaps, though, so it feels really short this way. I'll probably switch back to the Omni condenser/mp.

I picked up this 23,000 mAh Power Bank to make the log portable. In the name of science, here are my results. From a full charge, I got 25 sessions out of it. Each session started with the log at room temp, then either 3 loads (20) or 4 loads (5). Good enough to last a few days for a car-camping trip.

As most now know, Photobucket has broken links to forums, and has now begun to charge 399 a year to "link" hosted photos to forums etc.
I am not short on ideas about what services to use moving on, and am not here to open a discussion about services to use, as I believe all free services will start charging in short order.
I am here to give any of those that wish to see all images I have posted in this thread the link to see them.
You are welcome to look at them all, and I hope they are useful.

.....You should. Saves making me look a cunt . Mine seems to have settled down flavour wise but the WS is a weapon of a vape. I thought you had one but when I checked your sig........ either way you are on the winning team bro...

Sorry, brother! Didn't mean to set you up. I get too busy vaping and reading/writing on here and I forget some of the simple things. Will try not to forget in future! Hope the new sig meets your approval. :D

Really enjoying my WS right now while stopping through in the middle of July 4th activities. Gotta love some good Haze to keep the day moving. Loading all my VCs and Mi and little containers with various strains to enjoy big BBQ and awesome fireworks.

Happy 4th to all fellow US patriots, and a Happy Tuesday to everyone else! Please feel free to go out and blow stuff up all evening to join us in one of our favorite American traditions!

I will try my best to answer but whilst I am a "vape professional" I can only offer my opinion.

1. No. I use a lab power supply but it is the same principal just bigger.

2UqqhAVl.jpg

2. It is above the recommended voltage but I tend to run my own race & it is not by much. I suspect mine runs a bit cool though but you get small variations in hand crafted vapes. That opinion is based of others running their 12v standard PS dimmed to 7-8 on the dial & the fact I ran my UD at 11.9-12v.

3. Yes it does place additional strain on the heater although 12.2v would not really push things. Unless you get stupid with the voltage it is like driving a car hard. Sure you will may wear out components faster but provided you are aware of the fact you can lower the heater lifespan it is a calculated gamble. One I a prepared to take.

4. No idea on that. Ed is the man who can answer that but even if mine does run cooler I could never see myself going over 12.5v. It is a bit of common sense as mine at 12.5v would be combustion time I suspect.

All good my man. Out of interest do you still use your VapCaps when the WS is right there? I find no reason to as it is quicker & easier to extract with the WS.

Happy 4th to all the American folks out there. Seems like a perfect day for BBQ, beers & bongs to me.

Thanks for the response bud,

Interesting results, I completely get what you mean by some heaters running at slightly different rates to their counterparts.

Do you find the voltage is higher when you first switch it on and then it slowly settles at your desired voltage as the heater comes up to temp? I assume this is the resistance of the heater dropping as it warms up.

I don't change my voltage so it remains stable. I will have to look to see if it draws any more amps on initial heat up. Running at 12.1v it draws 0.76a when up to temp.

Oh yeah!!! Have been really enjoying playing with all sorts of WS, VC and glass configurations at home. Possibilities seem endless, and always fun to change things up. Had a blast with VCs last night away from power, too. Though must admit, I love the high power, perfect heat hits I've been getting while on WS. Think the ability to use them together is one of those things that made the WS so irresistible for me. And, have found it even better than I imagined in use.

Thanks for all the great info on VV, too!! Have been planning to put mine on my HI/Alan VVPS and see what different voltages might do, but haven't made it that far yet.

Do it man, it should help you dial in your experience a bit more.

Oh... I will. As things have worked out, I have so much great new stuff coming in over next week. None today, though. So will hopefully hook this up tonight or soon. Though I should take at least a 1 day T-break after all some friends and I went through yesterday and last night!

EDIT: You know I will do @GreenHopper ! Love to share everything vape related on here, and often many other things too. Will try to match different voltages to what I find using the standard dial as well as I can, also.

Rest well bud.

Well, I got around to actually using my VK for higher temps (haven't really taken it to 12v since I got it, let alone beyond) with @Stevenski nudging me over the edge haha

That 12.2v range is fierce, no combustion at all but boy does it get some HUGE extractions. I'm still amazed on these higher temps with a DD stem at how smooth and not harsh the vapor is. What these higher temps did do is makes the glass pieces work exceptionally better. I got to experimenting and have come to a new conclusion on the glass pieces.

So, aside from the stability issues due to the short perch on the heater core, the other issue I had with the glass pieces was the inability to get a full extraction easily. I'm still not going to use the DD Glass Stem but the glass WPA, I always liked because if you just used the WS as a 'lighter' and had WPA resting in my WP (just to be clear, the loaded chamber sits in my WP with the chamber pointed up so nothing falls out), can achieve much larger loads, and the WS can be mounted and be removed from the WPA easier than the Ti tip. By using the higher temps, I was able to extract using the glass MUCH better. This experimenting brought up an additional reasoning as to why the glass doesn't extract as well as the Ti tip.

I feel like the short perch and the perch being narrower than the glass tube, results in cool, unheated ambient air to come into the glass stem from the edges of stem rather than from the heater core. This would cause the hot air which is pulled to be mixed with cooler air and in turn, not extract as well (due to lower temperatures). Now, this can be combated by turning the voltage up which will mix even hotter air with the cool air and achieve better extractions. In comparison to the titanium tip, I agree there is probably some conduction taking place on the ti tips BUT I think it may have more to do with the titanium tip creating a much tighter seal and therefore the chamber is getting 100% of heated air. With that in mind, I would also imagine you are able to 'pull' more hot air with the ti tips as there is a greater suction (the glass stems would have a 'vacuum leak' since they don't seal as tight and wouldn't pull the same volume of hot air through the heater core).

All this being said, I have a question for @Ed's TnT ....

Should I be concerned with running it over 12v?

On some other units it states it shouldn't be ran over 12v for extended periods of time. So, what would you recommend keeping the 12v+ usage windows down to (time wise)? Would it be OK to run the log at, let's say, 12.3-12.5 for 20-30 minutes? That was just an example so if you have more detail as to what you would/wouldn't recommend, that'd be great.

If I wanted to test my theory, is there a sleeve or some kind of safe material that I could use to seal off the connection between the WS and glass stems? Not necessarily permanent, just to prove/disprove my thoughts. Could I use something like a o-ring which could be placed around the heater core, right below the perch which stops the glass stem, which if placed just right, would allow the glass to rest against the o-ring making a better seal?

Thank you! I hope you and everyone had a great 4th!

Oh, I forgot to add this to the above...

The reason I originally came to this conclusion, as well, was because when using my WP, I wasn't able to 'milk' it up with the glass WPA like I was with the Ti tips (wasn't as quick as to fill up with vapor in the wp or anywhere near as dense) although was achieving great, large hits...just took longer draws and higher temps. It wouldn't appear as a big hit when visually watching it collect in the WP but the cloud aftermath proved what it was doing.

So, this got me to thinking that there was "clean, fresh" air "diluting" the vaporized air.

Sorry for what may appear to be ramblings haha. If I'm unclear or hard to follow on any of this, let me know.

Good evening, gosh its been hot hot hot here lately, got some wood turned but most of all did a late spring cleaning in my big building and turning/finish shop, worked my butt off and made a serious showing in both woot woot! Took yesterday and put that Jerk seasoning that @phattpiggie sent me wow, pork chops were off the hook!

Oh btw if anyone is interested @turk seems that Cedar live edge is available after all if you or anyone else is interested pls let me know, being the only one its a unique piece.

@flotntoke Thanks for the kind words my man, hand is healing fine, got the stitches out today, dr says it looks great. The tenderness is almost gone so I am back typing like a champ on the PC lol. 4th was fun and gave me time to really get the cleaning I needed done. My boys will be back tomorrow til sunday so I am very excited about that, those are the best times! Hope all is well bro and thanks for stopping by!

All great posts everyone, been fun reading it all and had I had more time I would follow up on all but that isnt the case and bed times draws near, I am an early bird, never hurts my feelings to have my head on the pillow before the sun is completely down lol.

That being sad, @Stevenski @Square4Life I would never recommend using your WS at max temp for extended periods of time nor higher than 12V. I will say that the WS heater is a beast of a component and that it has a lifetime warranty so I have seen others run it over the 12V and theirs is still going strong. Thing is it reaches temp so quickly so extended periods of time arent necessary. Yes running it higher than normal will strain it of course but so will running the heck out of your car, if you romp on it all the time you will beat it down. I feel that if you run it over 12V you shouldnt have to go much higher than 12V, sure as heck dont believe there would ever be a reason to go up to 13-14V.

How bout this, so the next WS that are sold will also have a VC cap, why not, you have a work horse of a log at home on the desk so why not have the portability of the WS stem on the go when out and about with a VC cap giving you the best of both worlds!

I think it's awesome you are adding the caps to the deal, just another example of how awesome the WS package is.

I almost find my caps redundant with the WS sitting there @flotntoke. Why take two cycles when you can take a hearty rip & reload for round 2 or 3? Heading out for some dinner tomorrow so I might bring my burly out for the night :ninja:.

@Square4Life I also don't use the glass GonG's for the exact reason you mentioned. You can make a stopper out of a high temp O ring to create a seal much like a Air core UD. Therefore I use the Ti tips 90% of the time as it works best for me. Maybe 1/10 I will have a glass stem as I like the extra airflow when having a mellow draw or two but water is for ripping not sipping :2c: ;).

My man @Ed's TnT, much love bro & it is good to see you are healing up & getting on the grill :D. That pork looks better than the Black Walnut WS & that WS looks delicious in addition to reminding me of my faithful but neglected UD. Some fancy log has set up shop & kicked her to the cupboard :goon:.

The advice I would give to any vaper is experiment & find what works best for you & you alone. Ed is spot on in his advice regarding voltage. I understand, accept & am fully aware of the risk with going over 12v. It won't kill it but may lower the life expectancy of the unit so be aware. The unit may have a lifetime warranty but I know if mine went out after a couple of years hard work I would work with Ed to get it rebuilt & probably grab another one because, well because.

@Stevenski Thank you for the response and entertaining my tinkering, experimental side. I just thought it would be neat to see if creating a tight seal would completely change the way the Glass stems worked with the WS for the better. I'll update back after I've tried it out.

@Ed's TnT I believe the 12v Max is fine when using the ti tips...the Glass stems is really why I got to cranking the temp up. Need much higher temps to get good extraction through glass. That being said, I want my BB to last so I'll keep it in the normal operating range and try to get the Glass to seal off to determine if it is simply cool air cooling the chamber down.
Glad to see you healing up well. Grilling looks good as well. That seasoning looks pretty interesting. I love summertime grilling.

Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see what you got in store for us next now that you got both hands back:clap:

Good morning everyone, hope all is well out there. Got the boys Thursday afternoon and we have been busy. My 13 year old 4H chickens have grown so quick and big, we had to relocate them to a larger pen we had to build this weekend. He is very excited, he picked Ancona chickens, they are still not full grown, this is what they will look like

images

He has 3 roosters and 10 hens. We have been reading about how to pick and get them ready for showing. We have quite a bit to do to prep them for the big day. Kinda feels like the great dog show, we will have to wash and dry them, pretty them up and all that. Get this, so he is the only kid in our county doing it so he is automatically the club president woot woot lol! Yesterday I made those lime chicken tacos for the boys, oh they love em
Z7KyQk2.jpg

My girl got me a ice cream maker a bit back I think I mentioned it but if not hey if you all dont have one you need to get your butts to walmart in person or online, they are only $19, I can make the best peach ice cream for bout $5, needless to say after tacos it was on

8UzMsgr.jpg

We have a lilttle more work to do on the pen this morning, got a few orders to pack and then we have church tonight, all in all has been a great week and feel we wrapped up the weekend even greater!

I have been doing extensive testing on the WS, after all the intense probing of the working temps I have found that the WS performs way better than I ever expected. I will explain and let you all decide the conclusion.

You will see in this pic, the heater cartridge is within the air path, the leads coming out are high temp treated teflon rated to 488F, the probe is just at the base of the cartridge and has been running full power for an hour when the reading was taken

AQtcGu9.jpg

In this pic I probed the lead hole in the dividing wall, same full power after an hour

oYhISwY.jpg

I also tested within the air inlets again at full strength after an hour

wTgt8SH.jpg

I wasnt able to get the probe into the Y slot but you can see for yourself the W slot isnt that far from the Y

j1ZQrKP.jpg

As you can see above also after and hour at full power the temp in the air path under the Ti base/mounting plate its only 257F.

Oh but wait, even more testing has been done, I even probed the SS screws used to attach the air path to the dividing wall

O6lAiu4.jpg

zppFz5r.jpg

No way testing doesnt end there, I use a piece of cotton pushed into the lead hole to close it off, same time and power

s6tIf4E.jpg

bifIMDS.jpg

I have mentioned before that Titanium is known to retain less heat than other metals, especially SS which is commonly used. I will let the pics speak for themselves and leave the conclusions to you all. I am anxious to hear what you all think of the results and look forward to them.

@GreenHopper The hand is almost all healed up, I still have a small area that is not a 100% but worn be long now. Its really hard to slow me down, most folks that know me know I cant sit still, I have a hard time letting the grass grow between my toes lol! Ohh that was quite a meal I had you mentioned gosh it was spicy, @phattpiggie hooked me up with the Jerk, he is the man! Bro the WS package rules, its only going to get better and better!

@Stevenski Gosh thats another one of my bad habits, swine, cant get enough of it no matter how ya cook it, rrrr! Thanks for all the input also, I should have checked it before maybe I did maybe I dont know. I placed a high temp oring over the top of the heat port, just slid it down where it rest on the should and boom at max temp a few short draws, sealed the end of the glass when resting on it nicely and solved that issue.

otCwMs9.jpg

@GreenHopper thats just another add to the WS package, a 3pk of orings will be sent out to all WS owners! If anyone would like to purchase these in the future they will be available at my site in the WS section.

@Square4Life I will be getting your orings out soon hopefully they will work for you as they did me at max temp, what fun is that thing if ya cant romp on it here and there right? Do what ya do and if for any reason it dont let me know and we go from there! I hope all is well and you are getting some grilling in too.

Some of the links for the pics seem to be broken for me atm so I'll check back after mowing.

Can't wait to see the test results above and test with the orings. That's going to be a game changer (for the glass stems) I'm sure. Thanks for going the extra mile for us!

I do have a question regarding the dial. I promise I've searched this thread but couldn't find a definitive answer, so my apologies if I've just missed it. This first image of my dial is turned off. The second image is what I imagine to be around a 7, but I have no idea, as I can't see a notch or "starting point" of the dial. How do I know the temp (she asks, feeling super silly.)

xArNHFk.jpeg

So if the above is "off" is the below around a 7?

I do have a question regarding the dial. I promise I've searched this thread but couldn't find a definitive answer, so my apologies if I've just missed it. This first image of my dial is turned off. The second image is what I imagine to be around a 7, but I have no idea, as I can't see a notch or "starting point" of the dial. How do I know the temp (she asks, feeling super silly.)

These things are just too beautiful, aren't they?

As far as the dial goes....on mine, if I turned the dimmer all the way up, the line before the "10" would be lined up with the fattest part next to the "ON" label. With that info in mind, looking at your 2nd picture, I'd say it was set to around an 8 (well slightly below an 8, maybe a 7.8).

Thank you! That makes perfect sense!

@Jen, you can use Wite-Out, nail polish, a silver Sharpie etc. to make a line on the assembly of the temp dial. Once you find your sweet spot you can put another line that aligns with the first one on the rotating dial itself. This will make it really easy to hit that sweet spot.

You can even use different colors on the rotating dial for different uses. For example, a green line for flowers and a yellow line for concentrates.
