Well no need to cut, since the stoppers are curiously exact in length. If you mean shaping, I use wood tablets lined with sandpaper but everything abrasive will work. I will try with some little rasps next time. Then you'll have to caress gently with fine sandpaper to polish the pieces.

Really enjoying this kit. Very efficient in terms of heat retention and plus... a really handy stand. The cork stand is not lathed, only drilled and polished... lovely simple. Next and harder step, a nice cap for the mouthpiece. :haw:

I always forget to mention about how I take care of my corks. Like any wood, loves oils. I use a natural DIY cream made of bees wax and olive oil. Well I use it for my hands after work, but there's always some remains. So I grab a cork and I play with it a bit... cork is smooth... works as anti stress!

Oh yes, cork is smooth and "warm". It feels like a cigar, and it's extremely light. Cork stoppers are too short for the condenser so the stem is obviously in 2 pieces.

The mouthpiece section fits the condenser pretty tight
MOUTH_SECTION.jpg

and the tip section is larger for airflow and tip insertion. I guess there isn't even the need of O-rings if drilled correctly...

I was very dubious about the ability of the cork tube to keep the SS tip, so that's the best part...
MEMORY_CORK.jpg

As you can see in the pic, the cork is resilient and has memory. So the tip after 2-3 uses shaped the cork, and started to stick in place with a "click"... doesn't budge and the result is a pretty sturdy build!

@ander do you think it's possible to shape cork like the tiny silicone part of the vaponic?
maybe i have only bad cork, but most of them fell apart - have to drink more wine...
Btw i used a 4cm diameter piece of wood drilled out to 'bottle size' for the bottom cover part of the vaponic so the cork can be pushed in (perfect would be a small groove on the inside of the bottom and a lip at the bottom of the middle to lock it in place...)

Hi! Well the silicone part of the Vaponic would surely be an hard piece to shape... but I've reached 2mm of thickness so I guess it could be possible to lathe a whole stopper and then carefully cut the piece after. Cork quality is a must anyway... luckily I've friends that produce wine and I had my 1st class natural cork stoppers from them. So no need to get drunk for that purpose!
Have fun with cork.;)

Great stuff here @ander ! It wont be hard to make vaponic concept. You just need one tunnel in the center of the cap and two half tunnel cuts/air channels on the other sides where cork meets glass ,i can draw it for you if you like, but i think it is not hard to imagine :). I have used cork in some of my mini logvape builds, just straight glass tube sticked halfway into a cork stopper and resistor, works great. I will try to dig it up and take some photos.

Thank you! Well I'm more concentraded in the Corky VapCap right now, since I've broken the glass condenser of the Vaponic :ko:... but I will replace it soon and to modify the silicone joint could be an interesting experience...

Welcome! This is what this thread is for! Cork is an outstanding material for DIY IMO!!!

it's not as easy as u think - at those tiny 2 bypass channels (that let air directly into the mouthpiece) it gets really thin, broke my last 2 tries at that last step rasping those channels :(
But it should work basically without the vaponic mouthpiece - a test tube and a glas straw (or chillum) with screen hold by a cork would be a simple diy vape for under 1 buck :D maybe some testing with different diameters...

I dont think you got me right, iwasnt talking of making the silicon part as it is but of wood. Are you using natural cork or agglomerated cork ? I can think of few other ways to get it done but here are the one i was talking about on the right and one alterntive on the left

I have some test tubes that can be made into vaponic concepts it is a pity i dont have cork on hand, one of these days i will make something with all of it and post it here.

quick 2 cents
- the left version is mechanical not that stable for the outer tube...
- right one is better and easier to make, but i would prefer the air channels to be on the inner tube side, so the intake air cools the tube better

Well if one of these mods could restrict a bit the airflow would be really interesting. The only bad thing I remember about the Vaponic was that I had to pull really strong and fast to acquire the effect I was looking for... a little to much air for my taste.

What exactly you find unstable,do you suggest that the thin parts wont hold the test tube :).. ? I dont quite get what you are saying :). The holes for the air a just two tiny tunnels. I can assure that i works perfectly fine techwise cause i've done the same thing just not with a cork but a silicone test tube cap :).

@ander i kow what u mean - at first (without casing) i placed my thumb and index over the air inlets and adjusted the draw resistance by turning it between the fingers a few degrees, works really good if u wanna draw hard.
but the easier solution is to draw really soft and slow - both methods give the air more time to heat up

@Abysmal Vapor
for the left version it will work with wood (altough a hard to make fit) , but with cork i'm sceptic - with the same length of the cork the right version will be more stable for both tubes (forces, leverage...)
sure it works as long as there is air coming in :D but placing the channels between cork and the inner tube will enhance reverse flow cooling, so vapor should get a bit smoother...

i hook my vape whip on a broken bong stem using a cork its not worked on a lathe but it holds everything in place...

also a cork was helpfull when i tried to gravity bong. it made an easy and adaptable plug easy to hook and unplug without backdraws
