What do you guys think of distillate? I've never tried it.

I'm going to try it on the next trip. I've seen the price fall on 1gr from $45 -> $27. The producer claims 75-90% potency. I do like that this particular distillate comes in a syringe with a metal needle applicator tip. They only have a couple of strains available at the moment, but both looked quite clear with a slight yellow tint. The caregivers were raving about it, but then again that was when it was going for $45/gr =)

I'm strongly considering getting some to make my own prefilled carts for those times when you don't want to fuck with anything.

@invertedisdead distillate is not bad at all my friend, very nice when you want something that can give some additional kick to your terpier meds. Most distillates tend to contain less terps and more major cannabinoids. I make distillates for myself from time to time, a great way to ensure a long night's sleep is to dab a good dose of distillate after a really terpy full melt :D

My distillates are typically made from hash and are quite different to other distillates out there. It'll vary depending on the method of distillation, the starting material used etc. Many distillates will have relatively minimal flavor compared to high end rosin/bho/full melt (usually a mild sweet, smooth pleasant taste) and is very easy on the throat. YMMV from commercial vendors depending on what they do in processing.

Thanks sir! Always good to hear your thoughts. I'm thinking of making some prefilled carts for my mom for easy night time pain management and fibromyalgia. Distillate seems like a safe clean option. I've never tried any myself yet though. It seems like it would be cheaper to fill my own carts than buy.

Be careful about your choice of carts, ecig tank style carts are often not made very safely. Distillates must always be tested for pesticides, microbials, residual solvents etc. If you do not have test results for this stuff, beware. Distillation is the easiest way to polish the ugliest of turds.

Thanks for this info bro! Maybe I will try that Pop Natural C02 oil. They are the only one I know of even testing for pesticides and microbials. I need to do a lot more research on distillate I guess as I was thinking it was like distilled water and the distillation process removed residual solvents and pesticides.

These are the carts I was looking at. https://maxvapornail.com/collection...artridge-with-ceramic-core-and-preheater-coil

Pop Naturals sells their prefilled carts for $35 for .5g or their 1g strain specific syringe for $40 so filling my own is a lot cheaper. https://popnaturals.com/our-process/

@looney2nz posts a lot about Pop Naturals in the Divine Tribe thread. He's definitely piqued my interest and attention towards them. I have not seen any lab tested distillate at all. Actually I have but not for anything but THC, CBD, and CBN.

It's a great product, but rapidly became a bit TOO popular, they seem to have caught up tho.

I'm not a fan of the pen carts, they are just intensely foul, regardless of the quality of the oil :(

I dove into the Divine Tribe and Box/mod stuff to fill the gap while my Herbalaire was being serviced... Herbalaire bats cleanup these days. I can recommend that approach, including the Cubis Mini Pro with the modified vaporizer setup by @Vape Donkey. I use them primarily with the PopNaturals oils, but I've also had some live resins thrown into the mix. You will LOVE seeing the labs on the PopNaturals product.

The distillate I've seen was for CBD and was 99% (questioning my memory again), it came in a powder form which can be vaped but can also be taken orally (and is readily dissolvable and tasteless). It did not contain any information about the base used in the powder and I'm waiting for some answers in the next few days. Unless I'm completely dim, I think distillate is referencing fractional-distillation, which is the likely candidate for producing an isolate.

Does the Pop Naturals taste proper or does it have that "c02 flavor" ?

I'm not sure I know what you mean by 'that co2 flavor'. Have had a pretty wide bunch of 'varietals' from them as well as their 1-1 CBD-THC and some other CBD combos. All have been excellent and are kind of a standard for concentrates from what I've seen/heard. With a freshly cleaned Divine Tribe v3, very pleasant and smooth, maintaining the flavor and character of the varietal the concentrate was made from. He's got his processes tuned so he maintains terps (not added back in). They have been delivering their concentrates in CA 2018 compliant packaging for some time now too.

I am a big fan, but I favor an entourage effect of all active compounds and tend to use distillate crystals to compliment other concentrates. Rarely do i use distillate or isolate by itself.

It should have an entourage effect as long as the terpenes are included, right?

I'm going to try it on the next trip. I've seen the price fall on 1gr from $45 -> $27. The producer claims 75-90% potency. I've generally avoided distillates because they used to cost alot more, 60-80 / gram or more, but as @psychonaut pointed out, it seems to be getting more affordable and competitive in CA at least. I have almost always seen distaillates in little glass jars, which I find the least desirable (most wasteful, difficult) storage method for sticky concentrates like that, which has deterred me, but I'm starting to see them in syringes now too (much better)

I just picked up a couple of syringes from @golddropco, sour tangie and skywalker og, thinking they were co2 oil, but after more research, I'm thinking they are actually distillate with terps re-introduced.

this first one is a perfect halo of pop naturals pineapple on a clean 10mm donut :p (yum yum so good om-nom)

WeI6gdM.jpg

Then I napkin-cleaned the reclaim after 2 mighty puffs and 2 mild ones, and applied the gold drop over the minimal reclaim remains.

lmHJwQT.jpg

It's super light hued, and at 86% thc, I think that's over the standard range for co2 oil, it must be distiallate. My other gold drop syringe, skywalker og, is only 60%, but the same hue, go figure.

As @FlyingLow and @herbivore21 said, pure distillate will have a mild, almost non-existent taste, and can be up to 99% pure, but many producers are mixing in a small amount (3-5%?) of terps to re-create strain profiles.

I'm strongly considering getting some to make my own prefilled carts for those times when you don't want to fuck with anything.

For your use, why not co2? It looks like you're moving in that direction. For most healthy people and consumers, seeing detailed, trust-worthy lab results for contaminants and terpenes, not just 2 or 3 cannabinoids, is not the most important thing, or even available at all. I don't demand lab tests for everything I vape; I prefer it, but I use my judgement and brand trust too. But I can also understand this being of greater concern for some medical uses. Pop naturals is one of the few brands testing to that level, or reporting it at least, that I know of.

My other concern is the generic pre-filled carts you're looking into. They are often made of plastic, have cotton/silica wicks, and universally lack temp-controllable, sub-ohm coils, meaning they burn by definition. Yes, they are reliable and easy to use for mom, but why bother with sourcing the cleanest medicine if you're gonna put it in a delivery system that will add formaldehyde and pyrolysis to your vapor, at the least? (backward priority, or paradoxical, maybe?)

I wish my "vape donkey" RTAs could be more user-friendly for all the moms and pee-paws out there :brow: Not there yet but we're working on it.

Hey @looney2nz thanks for the mention, hope your tanks are working well for you and that you're managing to keep them filled up ;)

Do the pop naturals taste proper or have the co2 flavor? Well, yes, and yes. They are quite proper, and they taste like co2 oil, not sure if I follow you there.

Like looney said, the pop nat's taste very smooth and reflect the strain of extract very well. I only really vaped these on the DT v2/v3 attys, so IME, the first 1-3 puffs of pop nats (or any good co2) taste great and are smooth, and the remaining reclaim hits taste kinda standard, dry, perhaps pop-corny, like vaped flowers? It's a different reclaim taste than BHO reclaim, so maybe that's what you are referring to? That's also why I have a dedicated co2 oil rig for my dedicated co2 oil evic / DT v3s, so I don't mix "co2 dab water taste" with "bho dab water taste" in between water changes, but that's just me. ;)

Hey All

Thinking about trying concentrates the next time in my Firefly 2 but still have some questions / doubts. Hopefully some of the concentrate pro's here can elaborate :)

- Dosage: Pretty much the most important step I guess. Did some research and it seems you have to "puff" on the firefly like a cigar to use concentrates. I only smoke in weekends so not really a "heavy" user. Could someone tell me how much I need to put on my concentrate pad + the amount of vapor to inhale for the first time? (1 full hit?)

- What: Are there specific type of strains that are advisable for concentrates? Also I use most of the time Sativa's because of the hangover the day after but sometimes I use a heavy indica to be completely off the map. I tend to go for an indica because I'm afraid I will not sleep at all that day :) Thoughts?

- Health: At the beginning I used my firefly on "high" setting. I burned my lungs because of it and had some respiratory issues afterwards (for weeks) as concentrates must be heated even higher I'm a bit worried about my health... At the moment I'm vaping my flower on low or medium which works fine.

What do you mean you burnt your lungs? I don't think I've ever heard of this feeling when using a vaporizer.

Well actually I come across some other threads of people that experienced the same.. Very unpleasant feeling in your lungs almost like you have astma :s

I'll share my experiences, although I am not that technical and have not played around with sub-ohm vaping. First bought an O.penvape 2.0 battery and a Live Neos pre-filled 250 ml disposable cart. The cart was $60! Pretty cool how you can just pick it up and take a hit. No warming up or preparation.

My local dispensary started selling Kanger Pro-tank Mini 3's for $15, or $7.50 extra when buying a gram. This worked a lot better. Much stronger hits. I started looking around, online and visiting different dispensaries, but could not find much info about carts for CO2 oil.

I finally found an e-cig place which stocked Kanger products and learned that my tank was out-dated and purchased the Kanger Toptank Evod for $12. Easier to fill and larger air holes. Also prettier with different colors available. Wicks/coils are interchangable between these models. When I asked about how it worked with CO2 oil the employee said I should not talk about it or he would not be able to service me. Odd.

Checked out some prices on Alibaba and bought 5 Toptanks for $15 + $15 shipping. Now I am interested in trying ceramic coils, so I purchased 10 Itsuwa Liberty Amigo v9 carts today. (Thanks for the recommendation @whitie_bear.) Total was $40 including shipping. I'll post later how it turns out after they get here on the slow boat from China.

One aspect I dislike about the Kanger tanks is that they recommend not letting it get less than a third full in order to keep the pressure. That's OK if you stick with it for life, but things evolve. It would also be nice to be able to try out a single new type of tank without having to buy the minimum number from a wholesaler like Alibaba or DHGate. I'm slowly accumulating too many tanks. I have 2 Protank Mini's and 4 Toptanks I don't use now.

I just love how no-fuss my set up is. Just pick one up and take a hit. I keep one under my pillow and when I can't sleep just hit on it like a baby on a teat. Before I would have to get up, clear out my Arizer Solo, load it, heat it up, take a few hits, space out not noticing that it turned off, turn it on again, etc, etc.

For those interested in vaping CO2 oil, I received my Itsuwa Liberty Amigo V9 atomizers and tried one out last night. These are available in .5 ml only and have a vertical ceramic wick with a pyrex glass tube. Filling is ridiculously easy as the center post is removable. No applicator necessary. You can actually use a dab spoon to fill it. It also has adjustable air flow.

I just use this with a standard variable voltage Evod battery. First thing I noticed was the taste was vastly improved. This was my first experience with a ceramic wick. The next thing I noticed was I got really high after 2 hits, whereas it usually takes a few more for me. Is it possible that a better atomizer can be that much more efficient? This was a come-to-jesus moment for me. By far the best I have used to date.

Another noob here, just sharing my daily experience. Been vaping for couple of years and started dabbing only 2/3 months ago. First dabs were horrible, due to lack of information in how to perform it right. I only used quartz bangers with caps, and I usually heat my nail until glowing red and then wait somewhere between 60 to 70 seconds. The hits are very smooth, and rarely I cough my lungs out. Those times it happens, I believe the concentrates still contain some residual solvent (correct me if I'm wrong). In regards to temps, I don't measure it, so can't give any direction on what happens inside my nail.
When out, I usually preload my haze v3 with concentrates, which don't smell that much like flower (non legal state here), and the flavour that comes from the haze at temp 3 is better than dabbing from a rig, but still prefer the whole dabbing experience.
I sometimes even top my bowls in the Hydrobrick with concentrates (shatter mainly), and that is heaven, taste and high wise.
Stay lit friends, and if you have suggestions, please share.
:peace:

I let it cool for about a minute and then hold my finger over the banger bucket and when its cool to the point that it just radiates a "warmth" to my finger, I dab. Takes a little practice to get used to the right temperature, but fairly consistent way for me to get a low temp dab outside of getting an enail.

If you cough it's possible there is residual solvent, but also just as likely that you just took a bigger dab than you thought, or dabbed too hot. Could also be things used to grow the flower which was concentrated during the extraction that is coming off harsh. Hard to say as it can be a lot of things, not all necessarily bad.

Thats a good way to measure the temp that I never thought about. I use an e-nail now but if I ever need to use a torch and banger again I will use that tip.

I used to do that, but if you really want consistency with a torch, use the stopwatch on your celll phone to really dial in low temps with the most extraction.

With my BigShot on a quartz nail, it is 10 second torch, 40 second cool, and use a cap!

Yeah, I started using a stop watch (dab ninja stop watch timer android app thing), makes things much more consistent.
