Arizer Solo II

Hi Carol, that a nice stem, do you prefer it over the bent stems? Unfortunately Ed has been out of stock with this stem.
I don't have the new Solo 2, I've just been using the longer Flow Booster Atomic stem with the Solo OG. It cools the vapor so you can use a higher temp for pain. Same with the Atomic XXL long stem. The longer Atomic XXL does take away a bit of the vapor flavor. Its a longerr stem. I have a pic in the Solo OG thread.

These Solo glass stems are on @Ed's TnT website. You will see all the wood creations such as stems, dugouts and an awesome aroma log the new Woodscents.

I use a screen on the bottom of the heater to cover the 4 intake holes, also use a small screen one on the stem so that I don't inhale any herb particles. I perfer a coarser grind with the solo 2.

Yes, I get a dark brown ABV from 405F - 410F but haven't gone hotter that.. so yes absolutely get dark brown AVB. Check out AJS's post on page 42 of this thread

Outstanding! Thank you for responding. :)

  • Vaped material is sticking to the bottom of the bowl. Hope this stops after some uses.
Overall very pleased with the performance and smaller size.
Mine actually came with a visible green tab to pull the screen protector off so maybe Arizer made a change and added that.

I'm also having the same problem with material sticking to the bottom of the bowl.

Pack less in the stem and this problem will not occur.

I assume by '...sticking to the bottom of the bowl' we're really talking about the bottom of the oven? Solo/Air leads to confusion here, but if we can agree the bottom of the bowl is also the top of the load in the stem (made of glass) not the bottom of the oven (which becomes the bottom of the load if it's in normal position and is made of metal) then the above 'don't load as much' advice is a good starting place. To that I'd add, do a couple of hits 'hamster style' to glue the load in place before you invert it.

Also on the list for fouling on either end is to pay attention to cure and grind. You can vape intact budlets in Solo/Air but if not very well cured the inside of the bud is almost sure to have more water than the outside. As we discovered long ago with MFLB it's the moisture that causes most of the fouling problems. The 'good stuff' vapes away clean, right? To get a good cure all the way through the load takes a very long time and care before grinding. If fouling problems are making your life difficult try a medium/fine grind of your herb and setting it out for a few hours to a few days in a warm dry place to dry out some before testing.

This can actually improve your vaping efficiency since the retained water has to be removed before the good stuff, robbing heat, making it take longer and 'start slower' in addition to making a mess. No real loss in potency, in fact I bet overall an improvement in that more % of the THC in the herb makes it into you rather than getting diluted down by water vapor, coughed out early on, or ending up trapped in goo and fouling?

So watch the cure, grind first and dry, take a hit or two hamster style before inverting and you can basically forget fouling buildup on the oven floors.

Did you do a heat soak when you shot this? My Air needs a good heat soak to be able to milk a piece, which I find frustrating for my usage style. I may have to pick one of these up, still on the fence about flavor though; just wondering how different it is from the Air. My air is tasty but the taste fades faster than you can rip it. One thing I like about my vapcap is I never get the vaped popcorn taste as it extracts faster than the taste can degrade. Would you say the Solo 2 tastes better than the Arizer Air? is that possible?

Tried to microdose the ed stem by pushing the screen up and packing inside. No herb touched the glass ... was only in the screen. Think it's a tad more convection this way. It ... worked ... but flavor was very off. Maybe I gotta clean my heater off ... or maybe it being in the screen just robbed all the flavor. Either way .. wasn't enjoyable. Harsher too.

Wish this stem didn't have the screen basket style because I don't like part of my herb inside a basket screen with the Solo 2...I want the herb only being heated by glass...dome style was too hard to place in the stem. Hmmmmm
PrgVcXe.jpg

Ah that's a shame, yeah what draws me to the Solo2 (and still has me wistful for Air/Solo1) is the all glass stems, no steel mesh screens to deal with or rob flavor, but I do love the look of this stem otherwise... I wonder how a small whole nug would do in here actually? Then you could get the no steel mesh herb on glass you're looking for, but I don't know how well it'd work with this heating style... Of course if you break up the nug to stir you'd have to then use a screen so not sure how thorough it'll work without doing that like you would with our convection vapes (and vapcaps? not that I ever had much luck trying it there myself)

Idk flavor holds a little longer because I don't preheat as long because the heater is strong and doesn't really need that initial heat soak imo.

When going for fat rips ... like that one in the video ... I heat soaked for about 45 secs. Plus if you keep the temp low the flavors keep coming imo

Edit:
@Shit Snacks
It's just microdosing with this stem ... the other ones work great. I'll give it another try...maybe try to fit dome in it so the herb isn't engulfed in steel, but it's so finicky. We'll see.

Try a higher temp and only insert the stem when you are drawing. with my Solo OG this provides tasty vapor until close to the end of the stem.

From this quick peak we can define at least some of the details. First off, the battery is about 50% larger than before, now 3400mAh against the 2200 in the original Solo. Therefore, if the old Solo got say 8 to 10 sessions per charge, I'd predict something like 12 to 15 now? It charges 'faster' by about that same 50%, say 1.2 Amps as opposed to .8 so the time to recharge should be 'the same' (give or take).

That assumes similar power consumption as Solo/Air, which IMO seems reasonable at this point in time as the ovens seem very similar and do the same job. No evidence of extra insulation or anything obvious that would improve efficiency (use less power). The oven itself is more similar to Air than Solo I, in fact the top 'cover' might even interchange? Otherwise the assembly is entirely different, built on a deep drawn metal 'can' (SS?). Not a plastic body with screw on cap that carries the 3 ribs you feel inserting stems (what many mistakenly call 'o-rings').

For purists who demand 'absolute separation between electronics and vapor' this is not the vape for you. Notice the area where the leads from the oven (2 heater, 2 sensor) come down and solder to the PCB? Air is free to rush though there (in fact that's the venting path in the event of battery accident, no more vents in the bottom). Blow in the charge port, air rushes out the inlet grill on the side (where air normally enters to make the hit). Those who wish to avoid electronic ghosts and evil fumes and such should pass on this one as well as it's predecessors.

Interestingly enough, the serial number on mine is LASER engraved on the SS plate insert. The base plate is also engraved "UQC, Inc." whoever they are. Mind this plate screws on so it's very easy to swap them around but as I understand it, that's their call. They can register base plates.......

Casual disassembly is to be discouraged, I expect to take some risks doing so, but would hate to have someone goof their unit up this way. It's built more like Air (makes sense.....), the front panel has to be pried off to get the unit out. It's sure to go back on with more fingerprints, smudges, dirt and so on than before you opened it, if you can get it back together at all. And the rocker button that covers the 3 switches removed (or the switches will get broken). 2 of the base screws (the 'front 2') go into long rods that go all the way up and hold the top plate on. You can remove them (the two in front) and take the top plate off (with the rods) to clean collected ABV, spiders and such out. They're machine screws. The other 2 base screws are self tapping and threaded into fairly frail plastic, they should not be removed unless necessary (like for service or battery pack replacement). The top can be removed for cleaning without disturbing them and they would no doubt get stripped out quickly.

Anyway, it's on charge now Later tonight or tomorrow sometime I'll fire it up and try it out. I don't really expect much difference but you never know...... It's very similar to Solo I in shape, only oval in cross section rather than round. It's as wide as before (of course, same size battery) but now thinner front to back. Ironically it seems this might make it a bit harder for me to hang onto with my sometimes casual style as the larger (front and rear) lips created by the flats are now smaller. A bit of handling pointed this way, but the real test will come vaping stems.

Now you know as much as I do.

Regards to all.

Packed a fatty in Eds booster shorty stem and set the temp to 315. Couldn't even feel the heat but got absurd flavor and still great vapor. Sat on this for quite a few hits then moved to 325. Repeated then 335.

Effects with my 5pm coffee (I rarely drink coffee) have me on the ceiling.

Does conduction suck the color out of herb at lower temps more than convection? I've noticed this a lot with my Solo 2 compared to my GH. This seems rather dark for 335. Lemme know thoughts please!

Edit: went back to it after an hour ... turned it straight to 370 and I'm getting huge clouds so despite the fact it's kinda dark, it's nowhere near done. The clouds are damn potent still.

Will try to get a 420 temp pic later for comparison.
Peace.

Edit 2:
Finished the bowl on 410 a few hours later and this is the color. So to summarize I did 335, 370, 410, in theee different sessions.
Flavor is foul cuz it's been hit like 30 times with long pauses between the multiple seshes, but not bad enough to keep vaping.

My experience with conduction is almost all temps can cook the herb if it's in there long enough. My vap3 did this super quick. That is pretty brown though. I'd hope still see some green at that temp

So I'm having my first issue with my solo 2 unfortunately. I turned it on after coming home from work and it promptly gave me the message "error 7, off..." Then proceeded to turn off. Havent been able to get it to stay on at all. Rather frustrating since it hasn't even been a damn month. Any thoughts?

Here's a prime example of what happens when you pack your solo too tight. See the darker pieces? That was at the top of the bowl (closest to heater) and got fried way more than the others. It's nearly black and I didn't go above 410.

Don't tamp too hard!

@AJS So it does what the Solo OG does. If the cannabis is touching the heater it gets darker. Don't overfill and use a pinky pat to push the cannabis away from the end, not tight. Draw on it hampster style a couple draws and it will be set. Then turn it over like normal. This should keep the cannabis away from the heater.

Temp 410 is like 7 on the Solo OG - it's high heat and I can see that happening very easily with the Solo I have.

Ha! Your routine is pretty much step by step exactly what I do. I knew I had packed this one too tight but went for it anyway for sake of experimention and demonstration.

But my normal routine is super loose pack, wait for temp, slide glass in upside down and cigar puff hamster style a few times until I see a tiny puff of vapor and turn over and I'm good to go!

This is the vape I grab when I want cool vapor (and a hundred other scenarios). Going from this to the GH is brutal ... GH for massive rips through water though.

Loving Solo 2

@al bundy so it's dome style? I tried ... maybe I gotta try harder lol
