RIP'S.....

Scrutiny of famous dead people contains a certain amount of schadenfreude. Many of these people are righteously famous, due to the gravity of their accomplishments. Existing as a living legend comes with quite a bit of psychological baggage, that most if not all human beings are woefully unprepared to carry :2c:

Imagine the backlash if I said: Greg "drug addict, cowardly snitch, womanizer" Allman, RIP.

You wouldn't have gotten any backlash from me.

For me, expressing negatives is not tasteless at all. In my opinion, expressing the positives without counterbalancing with them with the obvious negatives would in fact, in and of itself, be tasteless.

I guess it's best to drop this as what would be tasteless for one wouldn't necessarily be tasteless for someone else.

I'll just close with an apology to those that were offended by me labeling Ailes as an asshole. Doesn't negate the fact though that he is............, and God only knows that Greg was no saint but he was one helluva songwriter and musician who brought moments of joy to millions who have listened to his work. For THAT, he deserves a will mentioned RIP. I can't think of anything that Ailes has done to that magnitude that deserves the same.

Adam West with Julie Newmar (Batman and Catwoman)

I think I was about 12 when I got to see Julie Newmar in a dinner theater presentation of Guys and Dolls and then was allowed backstage to meet her. She was every bit as wacky and beautiful as she seemed in her acting roles. She was very nice too. I think meeting her backstage caused me to instantly enter puberty.

While the dead aren't immune from criticism it doesn't make it not tasteless to come into a RIP thread and express the negatives. It's just stirring the pot for the sake of it.
There is a series of books by Orson Scott Card called the Ender Series. The first, "Ender's Game", is one of my favorite books of all time. The second, "Speaker for the Dead", deals in exactly this.

Telling the Truth of the departed.

"T"ruth is a hard thing. It has both bad and good in it. In Speaker for the Dead, Ender came to speak for imperfect men. When reading, it is impossible to not consider one's own faults and how a Speaker might stand up for us.

June Foray, Virtuoso of Cartoon Voices, Notably Rocky the Squirrel’s, Dies at 99

June Foray, an actress of a thousand voices, who portrayed Rocky the flying squirrel and the fiendish spy Natasha Fatale on the wickedly satirical animated adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle in the 1960s and myriad other animated creatures and characters on television and film, died on Wednesday in Los Angeles. She was 99.

Dick Gregory was born October 12, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri. He is an African-American comedian, civil rights activist, and spokesman for health issues, who became nationally recognized in the 1960’s for a biting brand of comedy that attacked racial prejudice. By addressing his hard-hitting satire to white audiences, he gave a comedic voice to the rising Civil Rights Movement. In the 1980’s his nutrition business venture targeted unhealthy diets of black Americans.

He and Bill Cosby had a weekly TV show called I Spy back in the late 1960s.
Edit
You're right @turk my mistake. It wasn't Dick Gregory on I Spy. I can't watch Bill Cosby anymore because of his horrible behavior either.
