Multi-brand Vivant Alternate

@Vivant I asked this question previously but it seems to have been missed each time; is it safe for people to be using these units? We still haven't got an answer.

I used my unit twice and got very sick. I haven't used it since and have been waiting for a response.

Yeah avoids it still... And now a sale with extra mp... What's the return policy @Vivant ?

+1, any ETA about the new mouthpiece or a safety MP ? it's sad to ask this question 10 times and still don't have an answer !!

I have 2 alternate, this is my outside session vape but atm i don't use them because of this MP issue, i would like to use both at 420°C but i can't, one of my MP is melting (the oldest MP)... @Vivant plz tell us you have solved the problem (MP melting/craking issue) before running your 420 sale ...

I'm sitting in the background awaiting any news on the mouthpiece. Nothing from vivant
But I did hear from a supplier they where making them out of PET plastic and it would be 6 weeks. That was about 2 weeks ago. I suspect the blue beta units where made from pet and for some unknown reason they switched to glass filled polycarbonate. I won't use any deformed top cap myself.

Vivant clearly won't comment on it until after there produced and tested. And wasn't willing to spend the money on a proven more expensive material like PEEK for the topcap
If you look up the msds sheets for polycarbonate and thermal decomposition you can see for yourself. They recommend a respirator and medical attention for exposure to fumes. I think headaches where a common complaint with melting pinnacle pros years ago which look like polycarbonate.

Sorry I think they would have acknowledged the fixed units before the 420 sale if they where updated. Typical clearing of old stock in preparation for the new shipments. The right thing to do would be to throw them away or wait for new topcaps for the units. Not send a extra knowing it's going to melt. If so they are stomping themselves into the ground and they should just scrap this product and start over. If a melting topcap is your first experience with this company and they sold them knowing that. How do they ever expect to get repeat customers. The alternate will remain unused on my desk until it's fixed. Or they keep quiet and release a v2 and I throw it away

Crafty cooling unit mod! I clipped the fins to match the original cooling unit and sanded down the height of the ring, that's it! Rips like crazy!

Nice the thickness of the cap didn't cause any issues and u just removed the ends of the mounting tabs and thinned them? Did u use a Dremel? Have a spare mighty cu I can try it on. I used a cfv mouthpiece on it but it has to be rubber handed on and have a upside down capsule lid stuck on the bottom lip of cfv mouthpiece. Transfers alot of heat to mouthpiece. But it did the job while my mighty was rma.

The thickness is not an issue, it's a tight fit though! I clipped the tabs with a nail clipper (not very pretty, I know) and sanded them down every so slightly. For the ring I used a 80 grit sandpaper and went to town. I recommend that you sand away a thin layer and try to fit. Do this until you are satisfied with your fit. After that I used some 1200 grit wet sandpaper to smooth it out and finally did the off-gassing (since mine was new).

Good Luck, I'm curious to see your results!

I have been enjoying the Alternate -- it's a really nice little vape but for that one pesky problem with the mouthpiece. Unfortunately, I have decided to bench the unit as well until Vivante fixes this mouthpiece problem, and it is a problem. I've been noticing that the front of my cooling unit has been getting really hot to the touch, even at 380f. Pulled it off after a session the other night and started pushing my thumb nail against the inner ring, and as you can see in the pic, the ring just dented and deformed with little pressure at all. Most concerning to me was that when I pulled my thumb away after indenting the ring, strings of melting plastic came with it.

As much as I like everything else about this vape, I will not be using it again until Vivante fixes this problem. I can only hope at this point that they will make it right for those of us who purchased a unit before the updated mouthpiece. The current level of CS makes me hopeful they will.

Definitely going to try, if it is manageable this can be mod of 2017, marrying this two units together, down side of the alternate is top cap versus down side of crafty, non replaceable battery on bottom.
Hey some kind of Frankenstein but it looks cool too, i don't afraid to say stylistics fits great i thought from beginning on this top cap of alternate are those ribs missing :) now is great, and great news is also you can buy a crafty top cap literally from every vape shop. It's great i going to do that for this mode. I'm excited i love to improve my units.

Yes, i keeping eye on that and noticed that too, mine not looking that rough, but definitely is some melting going, last session was at 183C and it deform after pressure

That pic is scary.
I stopped using my Alternate at high temps a couple of weeks ago, now I won't use it at all.

And still no answers on the possible health concerns.

Used my new Alternate for the first time last night and was really surprised at how hot the CU area gets above the battery. It's easily multiple times hotter than any of my Boundless vapes get up there. Its hot enough I could only touch the front of the CU after 3 minutes at 365F for a few seconds.

Is this normal ?? I've been taking off the CU immediately after finishing the session, so its not sitting on top soaking up the heat any longer.

@dtaxx, this looks entirely do-able. I think Ima try this! But what about that air gap between the Crafty CU and the Alternate body? Is that how it is fully assembled? I thought a top part would have to fit flush in order to work right.

It is sealed to oven on this rim what @dtaxx sanded to fit alternate and on crafty if iremember good is gap between unit and cooling piece as well.
I'm concerned more how it feel, its tight and sturdy or more like fiddly and loose.
If its tight and nice fit then it will be perfect solution for me, i was sure it will not fit as i said in post 1107770 I don't know why but i thought crafty have a air intake on the other side of cooling unit.
Maybe reason is i had using crafty one time only. And remembered bad and didn't check on pics as well.

@dtaxx How you filling it in hand? It's mounted tight together? How with moving this top cap on sides i mean cooling unit between fingers and moving on sides, its sits well everywhere?

The cooling unit is completely sealed, the airflow slider even works as with the original!

It's really tight, even a tighter fit than the original cooling unit so you don't have to worry about that. :) I'ts fins stick out a few millimeters, but noting to be bothered about. If you are annoyed by it you could always sand them down so that they sit flush with the unit!

Ok, bought crafty cooling unit for my alternate to mod, thanks to @dtaxx for trying this and made it think through.
I have one request more dtaxx, if it is possible make one more photo from side of this CU, how hard this rim have to be sanded.

Im already eyeing the crafty mod as my go to solution. That said I have hardly used mine and as of yet no problems but melting plastic has me leaning to the mod.

A bit off-topic from the crafty mod but I noticed the battery included is a vtc4 which is specified to run up to 30A, has anyone with more than a few 18650s done a little experimentation to see if the 20A 18650s (lg hg2s or he4s) run ok? And what battery seems to work the best?

I'm cycling through LG HG2's and sometime Panasonic NCR18650B's both are working but didn't measure those for endurance, Alternate can drain cell on pretty low voltage on 0% indication it is something about 3,11 V when cut-off sometime even less
It only sticks out ever so slightly!
Thanks dtaxx, Look totally fine, IMO. Please take one more photo from side view but without Alternate, i just want to see how much need to be sanded out to fit, i operate on photos on this moment, because i don't have crafty's CU yet

I ordered a crafty cooling unit earlier today when I saw this. Very well done man. I love the Alernate.
Hopeful this works, at least for a while.

I happen to only use hg2's, never had any problem with them!

Looks like that Crafty mod will be the go-to for me too. I really dig this unit but after two melty tops, I had put mine aside until the cap debacle got worked out. I was planning to attempt to return my Alternate to PIU where I had purchased it(before I saw the 420 Vivant special :bang:). Didn't hear back from Jake on the matter besides receiving a new top, that also melted. But now it seems there may be hope for my Alternate yet. Now I just need to wait for PIU to get those Crafty CU's back in stock!
