DDave Mod, New DDave Mini Mod & Kit for Arizer EQ/VTower Vapes

Maaaan I got way too high, I really like it. But, my Arizer Air somehow gives thicker, mikier clouds which look more satisfying, especially through a water piece. The extreme Q + your mod does make me higher, which is what I want. But it still looks like there is barely any vapor for some reason.

2 different capes here. Conduction vapes will produce a visually better cloud, easier....

Convection takes a little technique and to get it flowing first. Conduction vapes are producing vapour as soon as your load is in place.
Convection isn't, so you have to account for that. Have a small primer draw first to get the juices flowing. Then instantly take your proper hit...
I do this will all convection vapes for better hits...

Many thanks @DDave my kit arrived today...

It was the quickest delivery yet...
Probably the quickest anything has came from usa to UK... and no customs charge is nice...

The kits looks great, I have many ideas floating about with how to use it...

But I'm awaiting a plumber to service the boiler, and the boiler room entrance is in the vape room.... so I'm gonna hold off for now...

Will report back later after some extensive testing.... I made some bho especially...

There are so many options available....

So far iv only had time to have a small dabble...

But iv been really impressed....
Using the concentrate pod with herb is amazing..... I was stripping off seemingly endless flavour from a tiny amount...
Iv been so used to the hungry evo and solo lately, I forgot what can be achieved with next to nothing....
So yeah I really enjoyed that tasty sipping session...

Next up I put a small amount into the adapter and used the other new part...
This gave massive clouds, it completely took me by surprise, I don't remember my eq making vapor that dense before....

First impressions are very good, looking forward to playing with concentrate and water...

Now for a quick history and walk down memory lane for @kellya86

When @kellya86 received his first mod kit from me, he thoroughly went through everything. We were in regular contact for a bit over a week, I believe, discussing performance, economy, and techniques.... and I may have overdone it a bit asking him to test various things. If I recall correctly, he KO'd near the end of our testing. (KO'd is equivalent of Greening Out).

@kellya86 If it makes you feel better, during the creation of the mods, through 7 different prototypes... and then finally testing the final prototype, you have no idea how many times I KO'd myself!!!!

There I was.... Just one more test.... Just one more test.... Just one...... more.... test.... Just.... one ..... Wait, what? It's morning already??? :o

Enjoy my friend!!!

Followup: Video of .016g full extraction in one hit... plus close up of The Extraction in Action at the end! Enjoy!

Wow @DDave, finally got up to speed. The V3 all glass solution is exactly what the EQ needed. I am impressed again. What a great video. How well do those work with filling bags?

And you have something for the Dynacap too.

True, I just never took that into consideration when filling bags. With convection, it is all about heat passing through. And I do try to remember to slow draw to keep a thick enough vapor.
This concept helps when you are pushing air through the materials. I'm going to start on F1 then got F3 next sesh. And consider them as drawing air a little more.

Thanks Friend, the video was fun to make... will be more to come..

I've never been into bags, so haven't explored them with the mods. I am in process of an addition to the V3 family, solely for mega-dosing or mega-mixing herbs and concentrates. So if this version doesn't cover things, the next addition should.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
I am genuinely impressed with this. You designed this? I even like the inverted part of the end. It even sits fairly close to the screen, which is what I liked about my V2 14mm setup. Did I ever go ramble on about an imaginary V3 in one of my posts? This is not at all what I had in mind, But also Exactly what I had in mind. :nod:I remember playing with a glass screen and a socket end wanting something like this.:bang: Yours even has the 7 holes. The EQ has been resurrected again.

I will check out the other parts that allow for more change up. But am liking this and the one hit extraction vid. Watching everything in the bowl curl and shift in color. :brow: Ever see this vid?

How are you using the mods with the balloon? I've never tried them with the balloon and I'm not sure how.

Do clouds really matter as much as long as you're getting the effects you want?

Received the kit yesterday! It was here a few days earlier but I wasn't at home, and I was required to pay extra tax for it so they couldn't drop it off at the neighbours.

Tried it out asap, beginning with the whip through water tool.

Maaaan I got way too high, I really like it. But, my Arizer Air somehow gives thicker, mikier clouds which look more satisfying, especially through a water piece. The extreme Q + your mod does make me higher, which is what I want. But it still looks like there is barely any vapor for some reason.

I haven't used the extreme q through a water piece before, so I don't know if I should expect thicker, milkier vape, but I always had the idea that a desktop vape would be able to produce thicker clouds, I see this alot in videos aswell. This does not disappoint me, since for me its all about the high, but I expected more vapor in the first place. Maybe I've got the wrong idea though.

I'm using the wand, the 18mm f/f adapter and the 18mm water piece adapter all connected with the included tube. Is it perhaps better to use the stock tube instead?

As for the balloon, which I mainly use the extreme q for lately, it is perfect! Damn that thing goes full of vapor with your mod, it amazed me! Got me knocked out too, exactly what I wanted!

I am very satisfied, thank you very much! I guess I still have to figure out how to use the extreme q the best way, but so far so good! Will recommend this mod to people.

I ordered a v3 full kit just after it was released but never lost a single word about it.

First of all the kit arrived here super quickly! The packaging is great too. Thanks for that!

Sadly, my EQ that I owned for less than a month broke down the day the kit arrived. My last elbow before the mod tasted and smelled weird, but I thought I burned my herb for the first time. The next round after that and the first with the mod kit (all new glass and whip, so i wasnt worried about the flavor of combustion having ghosted) I nearly threw up and coughed as if I took a huge bong hit.

Looks like something burned inside the vape. Even without any attachments it smells burned and weird, especially with the fan on =/. Still waiting for replacement.

One thing I already noticed was that the glass filter doesn't filter too well with my usual grind, a lot of particles came through. Guess I'll have to grind it more coarse now.

All in all I love the kit already. All the glass pieces look super neat (besides the concentration chamber that has some ugly marks...but nothing that will impact it's function, just mentioning it for completeness! I won't ever notice it during use, haha)

I can't wait to experiment with it. I already noticed that my first (nasty) hits before I realized that the vape is broken were more effective than with the stock vape!

I have a few questions though.

- the DDave adapters baaarely clear the plastic ring on top of the vape. They nearly touch the plastic. Will that lead to problems?
- The whip adapters don't hold the tubing on the long cylindrical part, only once your slide it on the tapered section towards the end of the adapter. Is this correct or should the cylindrical part already hold it?
- I can not get the screen to lay flat inside the bowls and it doesn't completely seal on the sides. Is that a problem? Won't that cause herb to fall through when stirring or through the turbulence when inhaling?

That's all for right now, but I'll say more about the actual function of the kit once I have my vape back. Then I'll also probably come across more questions.

Thanks for making these great kits!

Oh man I remember this.... sort of..
I was new to vaping then...
I had never experienced that sort of session yet
.....

I woke up next morning with the eq still on, loaded and ready to go.... still fully clothed with the tv and all my lights on, and doors not locked....

I want expecting to pass out....
Fond memories....

@Jillybean I have answers to your worries, but I'm a little busy right now...
If no one has helped you by tonight I'll answer all your questions....

Sorry @Jillybean iv been really busy....
Congrats on your v3, good choice....

The top part of the vtower is heat proof plastic...
The adapters can get very very close to it, but its ok...

As for the whip, iv always opted for a diffent size than what @DDave supplies...
I use the one sold on Vapefiend, and find it much better personally. It has 8mm i/d....
It's a snug fit to the end of the parts...

I am still using the old screens which are larger and sit tight in the adapter...
But i have used the new smaller screens, (I think ddave made the screens smaller to aid in the fitment, as alot of people had trouble fitting them), and they seem to work just as well..
I got no spillage....

Hope this helps...

Well, I'm just using the female/female 18mm adapter that came with the dDave kit with the stock elbow glass to the balloon(the new one, not the small one) and then put my temp in between 210-225 degrees celsius. That way I can fill up 2 balloons(3 if lucky) unless I elbow pack it. :) Whenever I do balloons I fill up the F/F adapter chamber till like half or 2/3rd.

No problem my friend! I've been enjoying it alot lately :) My dad complains about the smell though, it does smell alot more than my Arizer Air but I expected that xD I'm moving out to my own place in 2 weeks, that's when the real fun starts.

Enjoy your 4/20 everyone! I'm still at internship but this evening I will aswell :sherlock:

There are too many Ddave threads and I'm not sure where to write this. I LOVE the screenless setup (which I've been posting everywhere). The 14mm with the reducer (aka concentrate pod) makes a great double screen system for my milaana, tubo, and zion. And no screens to clean and replace.

But I'm going to be getting the mist which uses a 14mm stem instead of an 18mm one. Is there a way to use the 14mm screenless stem that would work as a two screen system with something like that?

Hey @little maggie

Thanks for the feedback on the v3 pieces!
Good news! May soon be working with Mist on a mod for their vape!

Even if not for mistvape I think a lot of people would like a concentration chamber for 14mm stem vapes.

All vape, no smoke please.
After having tried my new V3 18mm adapter and the new "concentration chamber" glass filter piece, and consulting with David, I am sad to report that these new pieces did not meet my expectations and actually have been a big step backwards for my EQ experience. :(

I think my usage habits and priorities with the EQ / DDave mod may be quite different from others, and therefore have pre-determined much of this failure. Here are some of them:

  • always use a hydratube (my allergies / sinus disease makes it difficult for me to enjoy dry hit sessions on the EQ)
  • I demand a high-airflow, low-restriction 18mm glass elbow to go with the big 1/2" silicon tube
  • I grind my herbs medium/fine with an electric coffee / herb grinder, because fine is better than coarse for extraction
  • Therefore i require fine, snug fitting screens to keep herbs from falling through the bottom and/or upwards into the elbow

One thing I already noticed was that the glass filter doesn't filter too well with my usual grind, a lot of particles came through. Guess I'll have to grind it more coarse now.

Same problem here. :bang: Big time. A whole bunch of specks and particles flying through the glass concentration chamber screen into my glass 18/14mm elbow adapter, immediately.

yu5K7as.jpg

This is how I hooked it up (before starting the session with the flying specs)

I always use one of my rigs on my EQ, with the big silicon tube. This is one way to DDave.

cB9mLQA.jpg

I tried to remedy this problem by cutting a small disc of flat mesh screen to put inside the chamber and block the flowery bits from passing through the glass filter. This worked, in fact it worked too well. The little holes in the glass screen quickly became clogged and stuck with flower bits, and it heavily restricted the airflow. So much so, that it prevented the recycler action on my favorite hydratube from cycling, no matter how hard i pulled and chugged. A recycling HT that you can't get to cycle is no fun, I had to revert to the old 18/18mm male elbow with the old basket screen to finish off the session. :(

This elbow gits'r dun for me. (has been for a while)

ZmoiCWg.jpg

I can not get the screen to lay flat inside the bowls and it doesn't completely seal on the sides. Is that a problem? Won't that cause herb to fall through when stirring or through the turbulence when inhaling?

YES! Same problem again! :cuss: Of the many screens included in my V3 upgrade kit, only two of them were large enough in diameter to go to the edge of the middle part of the adapter, and completely prevent bits from going around the screen and falling to the bottom. I installed this bigger screen into my adapter, and it is quite difficult, it helps to have something like a small angled pick or dab tool to straighten out the screen around the edges.

Problem? The larger screens are super coarse! I'm getting a bunch of flowery bits falling through the screen down into the bottom now too! :disgust:

kcKCwtI.jpg

I tried double-screening it, with the fine mesh screen underneath the coarse one, to catch the bits, but since these fine screens leave so much space around the edges, I was still getting alot of herbs falling into the heater. :bang: phail.

These smaller diameter, fine mesh screens fit fine and tight around the edges on my old V2 adapter, that's what I have in them. Gotta revert to the old V2 for now. At least that kit still works great for people who vape within my parameters.

I am still using the old screens which are larger and sit tight in the adapter...
But i have used the new smaller screens, (I think ddave made the screens smaller to aid in the fitment, as alot of people had trouble fitting them), and they seem to work just as well..
I got no spillage....

Hope this helps...

If you're not getting any spillage with the smaller screens, I imagine you must be grinding your herb quite coarsely, and perhaps micro-dosing small amounts like @DDave, so that the few nugs and chunks are firmly caught up in the convection vortex from the heater and then staying in the right place next to the glass screen, and not swirling around the edges where they can fall. I guess I'm a "mega-doser" by comparison, usually dumping around 200-300mg or so into the adapter so I can sip on vapor for several minutes, a few dozen hits, minimizing reloading chores and maximizing my enjoyment. :)

So I suppose that people who vape with the EQ / DDave kit along paramters closer to @kellya86's, the new glass pieces can be a solid upgrade. But for people who vape more along my lines, there doesn't seem to be much to benefit you. :| The concentration chamber was a big flop for me.

The thicker V3 adapter can hold promise of better vaping over the V2, but I need to get fine-mesh screens large enough to cover the whole opening tightly, and David hasn't been able to provide such screens to me. :(

Does anyone know a source where I can buy vaping-grade fine-mesh screens in big sheets so I can just cut it to the needed shape myself? That seems like my best bet right now to be able to use my V3.

DDaver's, EQer's, FCer's.....

I hope my somewhat critical review of Dave's new products didn't come off as unduly harsh or unfair. I tried to provide some context for this. I still love using the EQ with the V2 adapter, hardly any flower bits flying where they shouldn't, high airflow.

To demonstrate my fealty to DDave in appreciation of his EQ kits, I humbly submit for your viewing pleasure, a brief video I made of a typical kitchen-table vape sesh.

I think this starts from the first hit on a fresh load on a tall 18mm adapter, low temp around 380 or so. It gets fairly cloudy, and can be much cloudier with a higher temp and someone with bigger lungs than me, but this type of setup works comfortably well for me, like sipping from a vast vapor reservoir. :science:
