Discontinued MistVape Touch

The best measurement for the 14/20 joint taper I could measure was about 3.8 degrees.

AFAIK the only thing that is really universal in the "standard taper" is the taper itself, so you shouldn't have to measure it. Cf >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_glass_joint

"The conically tapered ground glass joints typically have a 1:10 taper and are often labeled with a symbol consisting of a capital T overlaid on a capital S, meaning "Standard Taper". This symbol is followed by a number, a slash, and another number. The first number represents the outer diameter (OD) in millimeters (mm) at the widest point of the inner (male) joint. The second number represents the ground glass length of the joint in millimeters."

You can see where the male stem ends, just a tiny bit above the screen.

But I'm a bit worried by the compatibility issue. Many joints have a different length (ISO vs US for instance) and some are even designed to have the tip of the male part protrude lower than the bottom of the female.

What I had in mind would be something like in the Project "Pure" with the screen domed the other direction, that is towards the heater. Here's a quick (and crappy sorry) pic:

FR1smJ2.png

The provided 14mm male tip just barely touches it and the entire screen is sitting below the bottom rim of the female. So if it was facing upwards like yours, the stem would push it down. And my concern is that it might happen with 3rd party water tools and adapters etc.

Note that the screen is held magically in place by friction alone, and like your design the main drawback is that you can dislodge it... which happened yesterday night! I had one finger inside trying to remove a small plant bit and the gf inadvertently pushed my elbow...

It was a real PITA to put back in place despite having access easily to both sides (which I assume won't be a possibility in the MVT?) I managed to put it back but it's not as flawless looking as when I first got it.

To solve this problem, Ryan in the Mi and Zi cuts the female GonG just below said rim, then sandwiches the screen between the GonG and a glass tube which also acts as a heater cover. The fit is super tight, I imagine he has quite some breakage rate when assembling those, especially since cutting the GonG right there kinda weakens it... I'm not saying this is the ideal solution, just stating what he chose in the end.

Another idea would be to cut some shallow slits just below the rim, maybe two would suffice? And have the screen lock into these grooves maybe. But you need to have real steady hands with the dremel, so easier said than done!

This wouldn't prevent dislodging altogether but at least it could make the re-positioning easier?

PS: the Project screen is just a mesh circle, it's not even folded like yours, just slightly domed. It's not clear from the crappy picture...

In order to make the tapered screen forming tool I needed to know what angle the 14/20 joint is, my lathe has a degree marking but no 1:10 ratio setting.
When this screen is in place it is very hard to dislodge it, 2.5 kg of force is what I measured. You have to really try to move it.
If someone uses anything other than 14/20 joints they will hit the screen and it should be obvious to them it isn't working. I'm not going to worry about being able to accommodate everyone and every stem.
The current screen is similar to the project and I can't speak for the project but I wanted the Touch screen to be solid and I really like this new approach.
Planning on sending some retro fit kits out today. We can get some additional opinions.
The other choice is no screen, that works fine too, I do like the screen. Seems to help even out the heating.

Oh it's quite strong then. 2.5kg of force is way beyond "user error"! You'd have to deliberately want to damage your unit.

More feedback on the potential compatibility issues would be good. I know there can be some variation in the joints. But problems also come when Chinese sellers mislabel their wares (ISO vs US problem) Anyway, I don't think it would be much of a concern for me, I intend to use the MVT dry with the stock stem.

I'd prefer a screen rather than none. I know it's not needed but sometimes a small speck can fall from the bowl and fry on the coils and it stinks! Plus it's better to have your product as idiot-proof as possible and prevent insertion of anything in there.

Just received my mistvape touch and I am enjoying it! Definetly will take some use to get it just right but I'm getting great flavor and nice vapor. Draw speed/style is key and I love how free flowing the draw is which gives you plenty of room to play around. I think the Firewood 4 is easier to use but I can see that the Mist has more power so I am looking forward to trying concentrates with the Mist. I have had good success with the Firewood so I am excited about using the Mist. I purchased the hemp fibers which Ive never used with concentrates but I'll give them a go and I have plenty of steel pads I can re-shape and ceramic flavor discs that may work as well.

What is everyone's technique with the mistvape touch?

Is there anything the end-user needs to be mindful of with the device during use? I guess my question is, due to the unregulated nature of the device, can the button be depressed long enough to cause harm to the heating element, or is it designed to stabilize at a certain point when in use?

Hi @scion34 welcome to FC
I did some testing early on and with five minutes of continuous on time I didn't fry the coil. So while I don't suggest it five minutes, you can hit it pretty hard. Can't really see where you would need to have it on longer than 30 seconds or so, maybe a minute plus to cash a stem?

Perfect, that's what I wanted to hear. I guess it would be a bit tough to hit for a straight five minutes. :p

Hey y'all I did a search but gave up so I'll ask:

Is it cool to keep the battery in the Touch when not in use? My battery's always in with the lid screwed on with my milanna because I keep it in a box when it's not in use, so little worry that the button will get depressed. What does it take to make the Touch sensor start to heat the coil?

Thanks!

No worries. Just like Milaana, but even less "risk" since the touch button is harder to accidentally push (and now Milaanas are coming with safety picks). New units also offer the on/off safety switch, but older units you can flip the battery door (newer units too I think)

Btw my unit is here and so fucking stunning you cannot believe, it is the mutliwood trim one with cocobolo yellowheart canarywood and red purpleheart layered. Even the maple is unbelievably rich and oh so very smooth. I will try follow up with photos soon when I get the chance (it arrived Saturday evening and I wasn't home and able to try it until late late Sunday night, still only a few bowls in bc a lot was going on, so theres much more to test of course)

It is missing the oven screen so I will be testing the new ones soon I expect. I've been using the double screen method in my stem or hitting it upside down with one screen. Interestingly it was said it might run hotter without the screen robbing heat, but I am finding the opposite? Or I just need to readjust, since seems I need to hold this button longer to get going than my last one (which is enroute to a close friend) but it tastes great and actually heats very very evenly. Well calibrated for sure, just a bit slower to heat up is all. I also have to get used to the new button location, but it looks great and the on/off switch on the bottom is super nice as well. I am really loving the new battery door too, and just can't stop caressing the whole damn thing...

That is a beautiful vape!

How does it compare so far to your milaana lana laannnaa!? :D

Haha too soon to compare, at least nothing further to add from the last time I compared them here. My Milaana is also still a rougher old version, while my Mist is now the latest sexy new version. They have different designs, similar function, but different size stems, button types, and heating elements...

Better shot of that brilliant red orange toned purpleheart of the trim, the largest section as the other woods are thinner strips. At the top is also my tulipwood 14-14 male to male with glass sleeve from @Alan, along with a special cork cap he made per my design that has a needle inside it for stirring on the go (seems to fit great, but I haven't used it much yet since I'm still waiting for my oven screen so I don't need to use the two screen method or hit upside down anymore). On the lower right is @mistvaporizer's own wooden prototype with the shorter joint, I tried one tiny bowl upside and it work well, I'm just still not sure the benefit of the shorter joint as it means smaller bowl and limits proximity to heater, which doesn't seem necessary for me yet? But again I need to wait until I have the heater screen to test more properly... And that's my new SLX grinder with some nearly perfect medium fine ground sour kush, I used it upside for this and a bubba og blueberry cookies blend that are helping me get the most out of my new Touch now. I had used a courser grind not upside down before that just doesn't seem to maximize performance the way an even more medium grind does for me

How is it working with water? I have a 14-18 male to male from Alan- no glass sleeve though. Would that work as a wong?

Yup, it would, that's what I have too not pictured above but somewhere in this thread I did. It's a Milaana 14mm WonG or a Mist 18mm WonG, haven't tried it in Mist yet though. I also have a glass GonG for Mist in addition to my other Alan stem above. Haven't tried this new one through water yet though, I don't use that too often these days but will eventually

I can actually use my OG MistVape stem with the MVT.

I am content, I missed the OG bowl and loved the stealth design of the stem.

Oh nice you got a trimmed one too, snakewood? Yeah I liked that old stem design too, looks great in the touch with the lower bowl side, like an all wood mod box. Maybe I will try to do the same with mine...

Purpleheart.

All I did was extend the default og glass down and use the existing silicone as a seal. Cant believe I didn't do this earlier.
