Okay.... so much to read (good thing). I'm overwhelmed... The new V.1's are available on 420EDC?
And the new Dave mod without screens, are they different than top hats?

I agree with @shitsnacks - I've been looking to get rid of the screen cleaning necessity. Gonna have to cruise on over to 420EDC to see what's new. I know the link is in here, but where is @DDave website?

I'm on 420 website, trying to figure out the glass screen top hat situation. Slim? Screened?
How short is short? How many top hats are practical to own? Can you use without top hats?

And of course, what's the promocode (if any)?

Thanks for the interest @Bravesst

Short stem from 420EDC = Short Stem length for standard Milaana shorty stem
Medium stem from 420EDC = Zion Stem length (coincidence) ((100mm for those who don't have a Zion))

Slim is a tapered stem without a stationary glass screen. Screened has a stationary glass screen installed into the stem. Don't recommend using the stems without TopHats, but there is nothing stopping you from putting in a stainless steel mesh screen if you don't want to use Tophats.

There is a link on the homepage to the promo code for the #420Sale but you could also just use: 42017 at checkout to get 10% off any order thru 4/30/2017 midnight EST.

This new @DDave mod has my interest too!

How comes? Tried tamping more? I can load any quantity in the stock stems with no difference.

Seems if there's not enough material to come up high in the bowl and block the air flow a bit, some of the hot air circumnavigates the material and sneaks in through the portion of the screen that's not covered by material. Especially once the material heats and shrinks up a bit. The 14mm mod doesn't let that happen. A pinch fills it and all the air is forced up through all the material.

Ah your "half bowl" doesn't cover the full diameter of the screen? Then yes, your explanation is exactly what happens... and you get the "sucking on a hair dryer" effect on top of poor performance.

Tamping only helps to make sure the whole screen is always covered with material, but you need enough material in the first place, indeed. 14mm is your best bet then!

Yeah those little top hats don't stay clean for long. I just try to keep the bottoms clean. Dump and scrape as I go. Even with my less than sterile technique, my Milaana requires little maintenance. A screen soak when I want to bother and an occasional stem wipe.

I like both the RBT Milaana 18 mm stems and the DDave 18mm stems, mostly with a full bowl. The Milaana is formidable with them. But I can't get half-full bowls to work well for me on the 18 mm stems.
The top hat, which is screenless, is designed for mini loads.

Hey all, thanks for the interest in the new pieces. If should have a new listing over on www.ddavemods.com tomorrow. Awaiting final verification of fit.

V3.1 in the works. Addresses another request I am getting... Mega-Dosing.

Stay tuned!
I posted on the zion thread but the set up of filling the adapter not the stem works really well. I haven't tried the 18mm screenless yet but so far these new additions are great.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback!

Tip, to keep those pieces easily clean, just swab them out with a qtip and ISO when you're done vaping. I have yet to need to soak mine.... ;)

Enjoy!

is VAS creeping back in with all the mod and V3 talk? Can I be a more satisfied RBT customer than I am already? Will the Zion just blow me away completely?

You can tell me and Mi have been hanging for a few hours. Makes me think of that Bob Marley song, I smoked 2 joints before I smoked 2 joints, then I smoked 2 more...

Enjoying a very baked afternoon with Mi...

Got a lil video together for the new DDave mod! It for some reason split it into two different videos, so I'll just post em both! Sorry for the tiny video size ... idk why it's so bad.

Part 1:

Part 2:
Nice video, awesome session! And sweeeet looking Mil!

You got 5-6 (forgive if I missed one, watching on a cell) fat rips, and I'm working on a Mega-Dosing mod piece for the Mil? :hmm:

Heater distance was on purpose. Experimented with 6 different depths for that basket (and who knows how many different air hole configurations). Too close to heater with wrong air holes resulted in little mini-combustions taking place and killing the taste. The winning combo was flavor, then clouds. While you do need to ramp up a bit for this mod, had to space it a bit away from the heater so not to sacrifice that flavor.

As always, thanks much for taking time to share your results!

The video doesn't even mention that this vape should be used with flower.

The comments reflect that, some even saying "this thing only does oil," and they all sound like a bunch of vapor idiots as well.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. You have a terrible review presence. As in, basically no mainstream reviewer or youtuber etc. has posted a review of any of your units.

This is a huge problem. Especially after seeing that and the associated comments.

In fact, if you type in Milaana review the first result is a reddit thread bashing RBT products.

That is not good either. And should try to be buried in results below, ideally, a mound of positive reviews.

The responses are pretty typical for what most people think (You have to remember, vaping is a meme to well over half the population due to ignorance and the whole "follow the pack" mentality created by social media.)

It's amazing how uninformed these people are, and even worse - they're confident in their lack of info. A dangerous combination.

A decent YouTube review catered to people who already vape rather than trying to appeal to the "mass-stoner market" will probably garner more viable overall interest.

New Ddave stem arrived quickly. Initial impressions are very positive. Well made, fits well, gives great, fairly evenly cooked results. Unlike my older 18-14 ddave adapter, this one doesn't bottom out on my somewhat shallow heater screen in my OG Mi.

Only cons kind of come with the territory. Unlike my wooden stem from Alan this one is glass and prone to breaking, and because it's a glass filter if your material is too finely ground or just has small particles they'll go right through the screen and into your mouth.

Hey friend, glad you're liking the new pieces. I've run into what you mention, so recommend medium to course grind. Also, once you load the concentration chamber and clip it together with the stem, before putting it in the Milaana, hold it over whatever you may store kief in and give it a little shake. Works wonders in reducing the bits that try to slip by...

It's time for an update about how I stand with the Milaana. It has been a couple of weeks since I last used it and it's no longer in my daily drivers these days, for several reasons.

First of all, I've been working from home lately and when I'm there I use the Zion, period. I don't even try to alternate or create any diversity, it's the only vape I grab and I don't think twice. I have my habits, my sweet spot on the dial, my technique... We are all very passionate about vapes on this forum, but at some point, when on a daily basis, you just use the tool that works the best for you. It gets me where I need to be at the pace and level of comfort that suits me the best.

Then there's the fact that my Mi developed a bad tendency since the accident when it fell from the table. I think it affected the heater somehow and I now have an offset hotspot on the load that is rather hard to avoid. So I have to rotate my stem every couple of hits, but as you know, when you guys cash a bowl in 3 hits, I take 10 times more and finish mine (approx 0.1g) in around 30 smaller hits.

So that's a lot of stem insertions and removals per session. Multiply that by several sessions per day... everyday... and that's enough to have me concerned about glass particles. Especially since I had bad experiences in the past, when whole western Europe was flooded with street weed cut with glass particles or micro-spheres... That shit is nasty when it gets inside your lungs, really. There were numerous medical reports in several countries and mentions of micro-cuts in the patients alveolas...

Plus with my own medical past, I have to be extra careful. So please don't judge me for that, I have my reasons to be concerned.

Finally there is this 90° angled stem I've been using. I don't know if you remember? Some fellow member posted the link a while back and I grabbed a pair of them. One was awfully loose and unusable in my Mi (it's a rather early release and the bowl depth wasn't 100% standardized back then) The other was okish but not perfect and it's the one I've been using. I still have to find the motivation to grind its tip to shorten it and improve the mating.

I like how small it is and still manages to provide (barely) enough cooling. It's comparable to the stock stem, not worse but not better either. The smaller mouthpiece diameter is ok I guess, but I like the 18mm more for some reason. Matter of taste? The angle part catches a lot of particulates so it's acting as a kind of filter.

But then there are a few downsides. It forces you to use the Milanaa with two hands, as even if it wasn't loose I think the stem would have a tendency to turn, so you end up with one hand to hold the stem and the other to hold the trigger. You can kinda do it with a single hand but then it forces you to "break" your wrist at a weird angle, and overall in both cases I find it less comfortable to handle and use.

Couple that to the need to rotate the stem and it creates a really weird usage pattern where you end up using all possible combinations on the clock! Sometimes the stem points to the left, then after to the right, then towards the body of the device... it's completely awkward! You have to do some hand gymnastics to accommodate where the trigger is located for a given stem angle... It's not enjoyable.

Angled stems are nice only if you don't need to rotate them and keep the angle constant. So I went another direction and ordered a pair of 14mm to 18mm glass adapters from China. Here's the link I used, but grab it quickly as these DHGate links are rather short-lived: "Downpipe Reducing Adapter 18mm Male to 14mm Female" >> http://www.dhgate.com/product/down-pipe-adapter-bong-downpipe-reducing/387805871.html

Here's a picture showing the (dirty, sorry reclaim long overdue) angled stem and the two adapters:

2lnYTUQ.png

It wasn't specified in the product description but it appears one is US standard and the other is ISO (23 and 25mm deep) or at least I imagine it is (there's a chance that they just have incredibly loose tolerances and I was just lucky)

The shorter one fits well in my Milaana (even having a rather shallow female GonG), also in my alpha Zion but not in the production one. Not a big deal since I'm perfectly happy with the long 18mm stems in the Zion.

The quality of the adapters is ok but not the best, their bottom rim is quite irregular but at least it's flame polished. Here's a picture of the adapter and the 14mm stem from the Project Pure:

vZrMWP7.png

I have not tested it yet but will do tonight. I hope that the extra distance between load and heater and the narrower diameter will help tame my hotspot issue. I'll report later on. It kinda looks like a walkie talkie with a little antenna no?

PS: I'd love to test @DDave's stuff instead but I think my female GonG is too shallow and wouldn't be compatible...

Thanks for the update man! All completely understandable and valid points!

This one had me laughing. I imagined you (a made up figure in my head) constantly spinning and straining your neck and mouth, holding upside down, trying to find a way to get your mouth on that damn mouthpiece when it's pointed towards the copper. Eventually saying fuck this and picking up your Zion.

i think this could potentially be a game changer for you. Should help with hotspotting unless ur heater is just totally fucked and sideways.

...nice walkie talkie you got there.

Let us know how well she speaks!
