I know vaping can make you a little lazy but come on mate - time to get the Iso out and give your stems a clean!! =)
AH, but there is a method to this maddness. Already cleaned along with my other stems in a glass of microwaved milk. Yeah, I strained it first. A lot of goodies can be enjoyed this way. Little waste, this is recycling at its' finest.

Harrrrrr! I was looking at those and weighing the fun of ordering one and using a double-hitter (both solos!) vs the absolute certainty of breaking it and possibly much more. It looks like the cheaper they are, the lighter they are and therefore more fragile.
I had a BLACK and a SILVER SOLO.
Hitting both at once?
One is enough for me now.

Waiting for SOLO 2 to come out?

Hey mate, I have 2 solo's as well (1 older with a replaced battery and 1 newer one) I can't wait for the solo 2 to come out, I bet I have to wait a bit longer than people in Canada and the US but oh well I am used to waiting and getting charged more for things over here in Aus.

I am looking forward to trying out the solo 2 and giving it a good run many times then I will be interested to see if it becomes my goto port vape or if I go back to 1 of my Solo 1's mostly.

I've had my solo for 2 years but recently it stopped charging with the car charger. The plug-in wall charger still works fine though. It stopped working with one seemingly perfectly good car charger, then I bought another and the new one doesn't work either. Tried multiple cars, same thing. So there must be something wrong with the solo. Anyone else had this?

I follow, and support, your troubleshooting to date.....but I'm here to tell ya that it doesn't prove there's something wrong with the Solo. In fact, just the opposite?

If it charges with 12 VDC from the wall wort (charger) but not from the 12 VDC from the car cord(s)........how does it know where the 12 Volts is coming from? Volts is Volts. Since the charger works (obviously by providing the 12 VDC expected) the Solo the Solo is fine.

Without a trusty meter to sniff out the voltage you're up against it WRT traditional troubleshooting I think. You're out of 'known good' parts and don't really have a working system to substitute from. I suggest "the Columbus Method". You know 'stumble on it and claim you got there on purpose'?

Check the cords for fuses. It's nothing fancy, two connectors, some wire and maybe a fuse. Hard to say how you might blow them both, but I've had new cords without fuses as well as ones ridiculously under or over size. Suspect the car jacks (key not being on, poor center contact being common faults). And so on.

A meter would sort it out in seconds of course, but has to be there to do so. I realize this defies the 'but it happens with both cords and different cars' idea, but the idea that it's a fault with the Solo is not holding any water with me right now. FWIW.

To answer your question, no. While others have had problems with car cords nobody reported one that was the Solo at fault in the situation you describe.

Good luck with it, please let us know how it shakes out? TIA.

Don't know if this is better here or the Solo 2 thread...

Does anyone else find it odd that the Solo 2 is shipping with 2 straight glass stems (different lengths) and no bent stem?

I have had my Solo since January 2013, and the bent stem is still my favorite.

I alway break the bent stems.
Do you know when the PHVES GonG'S will be available?

Guys, I have a solo that the battery exhausted.

Is there any way to take advantage of the power supply and plug into the outlet without a battery?

That depends on which model you have. If you have the old, obsolete one yes you can (but you need a 9 Volt supply with higher current). If you have the 'new improved' version you're SOL here. The PA feature was removed to provide 'use while charging' which customers demanded.......

If yours will turn on with the charger plugged in you're looking at replacement of the battery or the unit.

I have a Solo car charger and it acts as if there's a short in it. It will work then it won't. It's definitely not my Solo it's the charger. I was going to get another charger, I've had it for 2 years it just started acted up the last couple months. I'm going to buy the Solo 2, so I will buy a car charger when I buy that one.

I smell a break in the cable, right where it enters the strain relief, most likely on the plug (not charger) end. Very common failure mode. Often twisting/wiggling the wire at that point will make it 'come and go'. Here I'd cut it off and splice on a new connector, not an option there of course.

The way to avoid this is to avoid flexing the cord at that point. Many times the cable makes a near right angle turn just past the molded strain relief, it can't last long that way.

Does anyone have a link to a cheap car charger for the Solo? A charger isn't worth $25. Instead of the jack on the Solo charger I would like to see something common like a mini-usb connection or even a larger port like the blackberry's so we could charge from any power pack, cig lighter, computer, just like the phone. Make an adaptor with an inline fuse and sell it for $5 and I'll order the first one.

We've been through this several times. You're SOL since Solo is using an 'oddball' connector. More over, it's using that connector 'out of spec.' voltage wise, that is 12 Volts is higher than that class of connectors is 'coded' for. Therefore, nobody but Arizer is likely to make such a cable. 12 Volts on that connector could destroy otherwise good gear not expecting that high a voltage.

You need a 1.7 X 4mm connector to fit Solo. EIAJ-02 to be specific, normally rated for 3.15 to 6.3 Volts
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_power_connector#RadioShack_Adaptaplug_conversion_matrix

You need a two part solution. First adapt the car to the common 2.1 X 5.5mm connector normally found on 12 Volt systems. Then use an adapter to convert to the small connector needed like these:

Too bad they thought they had to build exclusivity into what is otherwise a good product; they aren't Apple. That's the reason I won't give a cent to Apple.

STEVE JOBS is one of the greats.
However I use a PC (BILL GATES).
My kids have APPLE however PC for my wife and I.
CAD and METEOROLOGY are very number crunching.

SOLO and any type of study goes hand in hand!

I bought my last one thru a company called Jameco... their stuff is not cheap, but it's very good quality.. no cord failures etc.. OF just posted the jack size and voltage.. might be something to look at..
