Also it seems to lose battery overnight for some reason..

This is a known issue. I have no idea if FF has ever identified its source, or even reproduced it, but I know it's known because I first told them about it nearly a year ago. I originally thought it was an issue with my FF2, but a replacement unit exhibits the same behavior. Others have reported it, but I don't think it's a universal experience. To me it manifests like....

1. A fully charged battery, or nearly fully charged, or partially charged (any charge state, I guess) almost always flashes red if left idle in the FF for more than say 8 or 10 hours.
2. As Jen mentions above, sometimes removing the battery and replacing it "restores" the original charged state, and you get the rest of your battery life. For me this only works maybe one in ten times, if that.

Which leads me to believe that the battery really is drained, somehow, and it's not just a quirk of the FF in reading the battery state and flashing a false red. To the user, of course, it doesn't really matter because the FF won't work if the battery reads as dead, no matter what state the battery is actually in.

One large mitigating factor is the second battery...I always keep one fully charged, and basically just start each session with a newly-charged battery. I get great battery life on a per-session basis, provided I don't leave the battery in the FF idle overnight.
...why cant we charge while using it?.
There's supposed to be an external charger for the 2, but it seems to be out of stock anytime I look for it. I use the FF1 external charger, which works with the FF2 batteries. Not having an external charger makes the "two battery strategy" not so workable. :\ (The docks can be wonky too, so I find the external charger must faster and more reliable.)

Nice writeup. You hit all the pros and cons very succinctly.

I kind of have a theory going on the battery issue that seems to pop up in what seems like a lot of the new app accessible vapes. (I'm not claiming to know this, I'm not a power engineer or anything)

:tinfoil:

But with almost every app out there, it's sole purpose is data collection. Just look at any stupid mindless repetitive phone games, (read the fine print in the agreement) why the hell do they need to collect all of the data from my location, pictures, calls, and on, and on, for me to pop some bubbles on my screen...?

You guessed it, they don't! Just go look up how much data collection is worth.. money/power/data go hand in hand.. it's a little creepy how well these corporations (from Latin corpus, same as corpse... creeepyyy)

I'm not making ANY claims about FF! I have known this for a long time about data collection.. but maybe while our data (that we all agreed to let them collect, to have a better vaping experience of course!!) is being beamed to our phones, it drains the battery...?

I'm done, you can take off your tin foil hats now.

Ok guys Ill take the battery out a night and find (if I can) and external FF1 charger for the 2nd battery thats still in the box.

On other topic I bought some cbd slabs and vaped some and made my headache and vertigo worse somehow. I had high hopes for it, but oh well.
Ill try again some time when I dont have a headache and see what happens.
I dont feel the body relaxing feeling at all people claim, actually I feel edgy.

FF have addressed this issue. They don't record, store, or aggregate any usage info. The iOS app doesn't even access location services.

I've read somewhere that if you actually take the battery out and put it back in (reseat it) that sometimes takes care of these exact issues. Worth a try. I haven't had these problems myself, thankfully. Good luck!

My FF2 (brand new) will show 75% on app and after 3 hits blink red and not function, then app shows dead.
App needs some help IMO
I just put it on the charger often now, because wanting a session and no battery is irritating.
Also it seems to lose battery overnight for some reason.
My pax makes more vapor, but its not very enjoyable vapor.
Pax Battery isnt replaceable and it is not holding original charge quality anymore, even though sill superior to FF2 after 2+ years

So my main gripe is with the battery of the FF2, how can the battery size be so large and not last long, and since the battery is not that great why cant we charge while using it?
FF2 is much easier to clean than Pax, and that is great!
FF2 doesnt work outside well in the wind if its not warm.
I wrap my hand around the vents with a slight gap to help it heat and stay warm in those conditions, but awkward to do so.

Jen is correct!
Important is that you download the updated firmware, fully charge your battery and then take the battery out and put back in again.

Red light stays on, no change to light at all.

Take battery out, light goes off. Put back in, it flashes blue for a moment then goes to the solid red again.

Sorry to quote an old post, but I'm having an issue with my FF2 and this describes the situation perfectly.

Was working fine yesterday. This morning I took it off the charger, started getting ready to load it, and noticed the light was solid red, as if it's overheated. First vape of the day, so it certainly wasn't overheated.

When I take the battery out and reinsert, the light flashes blue for a few seconds, as though it's charging, and then goes to solid red again. Very weird.

The touch sensors have no effect, so the unit has completely stopped working.

I'm able to connect to the app, and everything seems normal there. Battery is fully charged. Latest firmware update.

Have tried leaving the battery out for 10 mins, no difference.

Has anyone else seen this?

Any ideas/suggestions before I start the warranty process?

Hi everyone! I've read that post for some time, but since yesterday I didn't had my firefly 2.

Yesterday I got the Jet black edition of this fantastic vape. I came from a Pax1 and a Vapcap and I've found a huge difference in terms of flavour. I love the vapor that comes out of the device, super cool and super smooth! I vaped some shiskaberry buds and after some hits it felt like I had real blueberrys in my mouth. It was awesome!

Althought, I have some troubles with it. I think the electronics are not working well. Here are the issues I have:

- When I put the fingers on the sensors for heating it up, I hear a little buzz. It’s not very loud but I can hear it clearly. I’m assuming that this isn’t normal, but I just wanted to check it with you.

- The unit heats despite the buzz, so I’ve been able to vape with it. But when I hit it for 8-10 seconds, it turns off automatically even I still have the fingers on the touch sensors. I don’t know if it’s a security shut off or it shouldn’t happen.

- The led indicator also doesn’t work well. The first time I hit it, it blinks green until is heated, and then the led stays on solid green. On the following hits, the led doesn’t blink anymore. It stays on solid green eventhought the device is still not heated up.

- Finally, the battery indicator is not working well and the battery life seems shorter than normal. I started the session with a full battery. I vaped two bowls and the battery was on 50%. I started the third one, but I was only able to take one hit. When I was trying to hit it for the second time, it turned off in the middle of the heating. Then, I checked the app and the battery indicator was empty. From what I’ve read, the battery should last a little bit more. Maybe this is just a problem of the battery. I’ll try the second one, but I won’t be able to do that until tomorrow.

Does anyone have had this kind of problems with the unit?

Thanks so much!

I hear this faint buzz only when my FF2 is on the charger. Don't hear it when I'm using it though.

It should be 30 seconds from the time you activate the touch sensors. If you are really only getting 8-10 seconds, there's something wrong. Just be aware you start the count the moment you touch the sensor, not when you start to draw.

- The led indicator also doesn’t work well. The first time I hit it, it blinks green until is heated, and then the led stays on solid green. On the following hits, the led doesn’t blink anymore. It stays on solid green eventhought the device is still not heated up.!

The second and subsequent hits this is normal behavior, it doesn't take as long to heat up since it's already heated. I usually let it sit for 3-5 seconds on solid green and then hit it.

The batteries are just finicky. Charge them both, use til fully discharged, repeat. Hopefully they'll calibrate and this issue will work itself out.

Good luck!

Thanks so much Jen!

The buzz when heating and the shut off after 10 seconds makes me think something is wrong with the unit.

What I did for the short hits was warming up the coil and, before taking the hit, releasing the sensors for a while and then hit it. I got larger hits, but it still shutted off if the hit was too long.

I've readed the post this morning and I found that someone else also heard the buzz. There is a difference with my case. To hear it, they had to put the unit next to the ear. That's not my case. I clearly listen it in a normal enviroment without the need to put the vape next to the ear.

If anyone knows something more about that, it would be very helpful for me.

Thanks so much!

1. Try the second battery. (You didn't mention if you've tried the other battery....)
2. Try re-charging each battery for a full cycle on the dock.

My best guess is that despite what the app says, your battery is dead...but trying the other battery would be a good way to tell.

You shouldn't hear a buzz during normal operation. Some folks hear a slight hum when they hold it up to their ear (I never have) but you shouldn't hear anything like that when you're just using the device normally.

And as Jen says, the shutoff should be 30 seconds. If you're really only able to get a ten second hit before shutoff, something is wrong. (Your description of the light staying solid on second/third hits etc is normal, also as Jen mentions.)

The combo of audible buzz and a shortened shutoff sounds like something is wrong with the device. I would re-charge both batteries and see if you're still observing the same behavior. If so I'd give FF a call and see what they say.

Yeah, thats what I thought... I still could got pretty high with the hits I took, but I would toke longer hits if I could.

I don't be able to charge it until tomorrow. I'll keep you posted so if someone else has the same problems will know the way to go.

I hope you both get your unit sorted and dont have to use the warranty to get a repair/replacement!

I am still having some issues with the app linking and the battery's actual charge level.
Last night it said 3 blinks and the app showed a 3/4 charge. This morning when I woke up 2 blinks and then red blinks during heat up and app wasnt connected anymore so I linked them. Then app said 100% so I tried again and then the red blinks, and app showed dead lol.
I am still gonna buy the external charger and charge both batteries

edit

@bleak I tried to multi-quiote and it didnt work.
I hope you get yours working also!

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately switching batteries makes no difference, so it looks like I've got a lemon on my hands. Disappointing as I've only had it a month, had just mastered the learning curve and was totally loving this vape.

The battery was fully charged when the issue started (it was 3/4 full when I put it on the cradle before going to bed, and the issue started next morning). Since the device is no longer functional, theres no way I can discharge the battery in order to do a full charge cycle.

To summarize the issue - when battery is inserted (or the device taken off cradle), the light flashes blue for a few seconds as though its charging (though its not even connected to cradle, super weird). After a few seconds of blue flashing, it goes solid red, and stays that way indefinitely (well, 24 hours tested so far). The 'triple-tap' works on both sensors, but when I try to activate the heater there is no response. The light stays solid red and the vaporizer does not warm up in the slightest.

It almost seems like the heat sensor is broken, and the device is permanently stuck in 'overheat protection mode'.

@DenvertheJake from your description you had the same identical issue, what was the end result?

I had some funky red light issues when using my cradle charger too, especially if there was a lot of static electricity, it seemed to make it wonky.
Haven't had any issues since switching to the external charger.

Sucks. Sorry to hear that....does seem to be a fault in the device. My advice is call FF rather than contacting them in mail. They are pretty great when you get a live person on the phone.

The cradles are fucking weird. They really need to get those external chargers back in stock!

Are they already out of stock? I ordered one Feb 11 and it was delivered within a week. They should have included this rather than that silly dock.
Website says out of stock. If they just had them a few weeks ago maybe they'll be back soon.

The external charger wasn't ready when they first launched the FF2, but I agree, they should consider bundling it now.

Speaking of the dock, mine stops charging sometimes and I need to re-position it.
I need the external one, is that a plug in or just another usb?
I dont have any fast charge usb chargers and charging is very slow.

Mine just came with the charger itself, no USB cable included. But I had plenty of cables and wall charge bricks sitting around, it works very well.

It's just the charging box that comes with it, no plug, it works with a regular phone micro usb cord.

I have a slow cell phone charger only not a rapid charger.
My charger 5v 1A
Rapid chargers are 5.1v 2.4A so more that 2x faster.
The 45 min they say for charging is about 2 hours for me as a result.
5Watts vs 12Watts

I have a liger with sic and Quartz insert, Hercules from w9tech, pukinbeagle quartz enail and the FF2 beats them all in taste for concentrate usage. Hits really good for a vape.

I'm wondering why none of the pens use this style of a concentrate steel pad over a heating coil.
