I'm spoiled by some first rate vapes, even more spoiled I'm looking to take a new portable to Jamaica where I frequent and leave it with a friend so I may have use of it when I return. I already have a Da Buda down there and if I were willing to take risk I'd take my Firefly 2, but not going to risk that! Toyed with a new FF2, but man that's a lot of bread, especially if it goes missing!

Been pondering this for awhile and would really appreciate your input on these three vapes and any others I missing! I've read the threads on each of these vapes and not sure if it's reasonable to include the Pax 2, but doing so anyway..it's a little pricey. Which one will tolerate the sand best? Which will be easiest to dump and reload, I don't want to be fumbling with tools or looking for the same. (Fucking Schedule 1)

Hey man,

If you are just after a holiday vape I recommend you check out the VapCap from DynaVap (thread here).

I have a PAX2, not touched it since getting my OmniVap (Premium VapCap model). I did enjoy using it when I first got it and things improved with a bunch of NewVape accessories like the Pax-Pusher and 3D screen but now it lies dormant as a backup vape.

Tried my friends Flowermate, it was OK but I prefer my one hitters like the GrassHopper or VapCap. My mate hates it though, found it fiddly, burnt himself removing the glass stem a few times (he is a bit of an oaf). He's now got a GrassHopper and wouldn't go back. I couldn't even get him to toke on my VapCap.

I'm still a little shy of recommending the GrassHopper though as I'm still seeing a few RMA issues in the GrassHopper thread. But I will say my personal experience of the device has been quite impressive, it's a heavy hitter.

I've not used the boundless personally but people who have it seem to rate it quite highly.

Definitely considered a VapCap, problem is a good lighter is hard to come buy down there and they don't last long. Last torch I tried to take down was confiscated!

Ah yeh I've seen others report issues flying with torches, even empty ones.

You don't actually have to use a torch lighter, a bic will take longer and will leave soot on the cap but that's easy to clean off. You can also use a candle, a gas stove top, camping stove, any heat source that will get it up to temp.

However if it were me and a VapCap wasn't an option, I'd go with the Boundless. It's cheaper than the pax (which for me needed additional accessories) and although the FM was OK it didn't ring any bells.

Might be worth taking a glance at the Linx Gaia or the Alfa Goboof as well. They are a similar price range as the Boundless.

You might consider the vivante alternate. I don't know about the pax but I've had the other 2 and wasn't happy with them. The issue for me, which may not bother you, is that they both have restricted airflow. The vivante is very reasonable priced- less than the others on your list. Great customer service.Check out the vivante thread- most of us like it and the company is right on any problems.
I've just recently figured out that my keepers have good airflow while the ones I don't use have more restriction.
As for the vapcap- any butane lighter works fine with it. Are all butane products a problem or just the torches? Because even a single flame butane lighter will work fine and you can buy them for very little at Amazon.

Interesting mention on the Vivante, I had read about it and disgarded it. I'll give it another look.

Standard butane lighter is tough one a breezy beach to heat a VapCap, really need a torch. I'll ask my local connections about torches, just have never seen them down there and with the salt in the air lighters do not last long.

You don't need a torch. That would likely be overkill. Just a nice single, double, triple or quad jet lighter will work in wind as long as you're not in a hurricane, in which case, your lighter is the least of your worries.

Here is a thread on the favourite lighters for a Vapcap. Many can be had from eBay or Extremedeal for $2 - $3 up to the sky's the limit.

I don't know about salt air affecting jet lighters. Never heard tell of it, but then, I live inland.

I've just not seen jet lighters down there, that is what I was thinking of when I said torch, apologies all! TSA confiscated my last $40 jet lighter.. kills me.

That sucks to loose an expensive lighter. All of mine are pretty cheap. My most expensive lighter has been a $20 honest lighter from EBay. But mostly they are between $5 and $10 from Amazon or Deal Exteme.

Here are my favourite lighters.
Honest Skylark.

This cylinder shaped lighter fits nicely in a Vapcap pouch along with a stash tube and my Ti Copper Stoned Vapcap. The whole works fits in a pocket.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I purchased a classic VapCap, an 'M' VapCap and a Vivant Alternate. Having second thoughts on the Alternate given the cracking several members are seeing in the MP.

Thinking in hindsight I should have bought two VC 'M' vapes leaving one at home. Good 1st world problems to have. Who knows, I may not only be combustion free but also battery free before long. VC thread has me excited!

I suspect that most people haven't had problems with the Vivant. I think you made good choices although I'm not sure what a "classic" VC is. Did you buy the beginning glass one or did you get one of the woodys? What's great about all but the original glass is that many or all parts are interchangeable. I have several stems and every now and then I switch them around. It is addictive.

Beginning glass one, apologies, new to VC. Looking forward to both, just worried what I'll do with all my battery vapes if I get hooked on VapCaps! :-)
