Underdog Log Vapes

I have been enjoying my cocobolo pup with the sapwood spot that Dave posted a few pages back and I wanted to thank @underdog for turning such a beautiful piece. Unfortunately, it developed a crack during the burn in phase but @underdogette hooked me up with a discount . The small crack is right over the sapwood spot and I honestly enjoy it. It just works with the irregular grain of the cocobolo and it is perfectly imperfect. I asked about it before the core was put in, so they made sure that I got a hotter core which I wanted to pair with my dimmer. I should have gotten the 15v power supply instead but I can add that later.

I own a few different logs (Nano, HGL, and HI as well) and I love them all for different reasons. What I love about the UD is that each piece is handcrafted, totally unique and has its own personality. The customer service is the gold standard for all businesses, not just vendors on this forum.

Heya everyone, Underdog here with your Tuesday update... Due to another day of dreary weather we're keeping shop buttoned up and concentrating on office/tech work today.

I've been browsing into the electronics bins and I'm finding more VVPS, etc that I was anticipating so there will be lots to offer. Amongst the other stuff I came across a number of the larger size (non-travel) Blue Desktop VVPS that we used to make so that'll be cool to offer those again.

As usual with oddities like the above mentioned Blue Desktop VVPS we'll let experienced users have first dibs on them. Off the shelf or standard production items will be equally open to all.

So I just got my two underdogs. One custom which has already been seen on here and a minidog. Unfortunately, they were too tired to play tonight, so I tucked them into bed.

JVfJpoD.jpg

I will make sure they get lots of love and play a whole bunch tomorrow. Thank you so much @underdog and @underdogette! You both made the entire process so easy and I will definitely be getting another (or more) as soon as I can to keep the pack growing.

Thank you dude! Happy to see the Pups made it home safely and that they have a comfy place to sleep. :brow:

Only had my C Dog for a little over a month and I love it but my real passion is for the NonG stems.
I'm a medical user and with the UD I vape 1 to 4 bowls every 30 to 60 min. My constant use results in dropping the NonG stems at least half a dozen times a day! For me glass would be a nightmare with my hardwood floors and remote location but these are tough as :shit: and won't ruin my day.

Awesome, thanks for the update and great to hear your bullet proof NonGs are making themselves useful! We always love hearing about the little ways peoples UDs improve the quality of their lives.. it really gives us motivation to keep on keeping on. :)

Perfect! I'll continue on doing the same thing in that case. Thanks for the reply.

Excellent, happy to help.

Thanks rosedale glad to hear you're enjoying the new Dog. I was also glad to hear you'd still be giving it a home once that crack opened up. There's always an increased risk of cracking right at the border of heartwood and sapwood but I love sapwood contrast so much I always leave it anyways. I think it's worth the risk! Glad you agreed in this case..

What's up Dogs?

Another Monday and we're plugging away as usual. Cold, rainy and dreary here so it's time to catch up on office work and rounding up those various VVPS units, etc for our 'Underdog Yard Sale'. Hopefully I'll have enough free time in the schedule to start getting those sorted out and offered up this week.. fingers crossed.

Our of curiousity, when is the yard sale and would it include vaporizers or just the vvps units?

Mostly just VVPS units but there might be a few vaporizers available if I decide to trim back my private collection and sell some of those off. Generally we put odd ball vapes on the website as Lost Dogs as we find them instead of saving stuff up for times like the Yard Sale. :2c:

Heyooo. Been double dogging the past few days trying to get it to be more than a novelty thing because it's really effective and definitely provides a different experience than vaping the same amount through a single dog...

Haven't mixed strains yet either but will get down to it. I might go back to using the hydrabase+stickybrick mouthpiece as my other glass pieces don't have a high enough draw resistance to really let me milk up the chamber but maybe my expectations are just too high. It's still nice and MASSIVE vapor production and like I said a totally different high, but the flavor intensity isn't increased at all.

I also think I need to drop the voltage more than I normally would because vapor does roll all around in the claisen, and maybe that heats the herb from the other side slightly too? Not sure exactly but I guess what I'm trying to say is I need to fiddle with things because while it gets me very baked, it doesn't have the oomph I wanted/expected. I may get another (4way this time) claisen though so I can double dog and still have a carbhole.

Anyway, having 2 dogs on 24/7 is so nice. I can just reach over and take a quick (and potent) hit with minimal effort. I'm the epitome of lazy since Zelda came out so even having to push a button to get high is a bit too much for me right now. Perfect lazy dog days

@muunch Very cool man. Thanks for the updates. I do not believe the vapor itself is hot enough to vape the material even more.

Having two dogs means you need more air to get the same thing out of both it would seem to me. So I think you should try pulling the heat down a notch or up your draw rate.

I'll look for one of these adapters at my local shops, but I hate buying weed stuff online. I spend too much already on weed, I don't need purchases showing up in boxes on the getting door to draw even more attention to my obsession with my girlfriend. Lol

Well, vapor production and the abv (it gets blackened sometimes - way past what it would get to at similar voltages if I was running each one solo) tells me something's weird. maybe upping draw rate is key - but I've been keeping it slow bc I want to fill the chamber completely, then pull the claisen/carb out and get smacked w a wall of vapor/flavor/etc.

Who knows, I'll mess with it more but I'm running each one cooler when doubledogging than I would solo. Doesn't help I've been messing around with combining dogs and stuff too. I feel like each of my full dogs should probably be partnered with a micro, just bc :)

i'm going on a long road trip thru the west in my minivan and plan to do alot of camping/exploring. i'm considering getting the 12v car adapter to use my underdog in my minivan. anyone have experience using this to power their dog? anything i should be aware of? my current concerns are how much power does it draw in case i want to keep it plugged in while the car is off and if i should disconnect it when i start my car to prevent possibly damaging it. would the temp be similar to the wall wart from an AC outlet? thanks in advance.

I don't know the nuances of using one (as I have not) but I do know it will likely run about the same/maybe a tad bit hotter than the 12v wall wart at max

IME Without a VVPS, the temp seems to jump around a lot in the car depending on if my engine is on, or I'm driving.. I can't say if there's any potential risk in starting the car with it plugged in  I wouldn't necessarily think so though, but at least it's easy to avoid if you're concerned.. I asked Dave a while back about how long he thought my car battery would run my log w/o the car running, and I cant remember exactly what he guesstimated, but I wanna say maybe between 5-7 hours at the most  which is way longer than I'd ever probably want to run it without the engine running.. Personally, I never really felt like I got the consistent results I wanted from the car cable alone, but maybe I'm too spoiled from always using a VVPS.. Anyways, the way I use my logs in the car is by hooking up a VVPS between them and the car plug, so I can keep the voltage where I want it.. That's the only way I do it.. I'd try it regardless of the VVPS though to see how it works out for you w/ your car and log.. Gotta love vaporboxing the car  Have a good trip! :whoa: ;)

Heya Dogs! Just wanted to pop in and say hi. Thanks for all the love. :luv: I want to apologize for being a little slow this week to answer messages and such, but just had surgery yesterday, and I'm doing a few things here and there when I get too stir crazy.

Packages are still going out on time, and I think I finally got my inbox back down to a manageable level.

Overall, things are going well. The surgery was very smooth and doc says I should have a swift recovery. I'm already feeling a million times better.

If you think I might have missed something, please feel free to message me again. Thanks guys!

Running a cord straight from the power port to the dog will give you voltages of around 12.1 volts when on "accessory". The same power port outputted 13.94 volts with engine running= HOT DOG. Too hot. Best solution IMO is power pack that outputs variable voltage to plug the dog into. They are adjustable in increments of .5 up to 13 volts. You can then use your car power port to charge the battery pack while driving. No worries about running your car battery down while out camping. My battery pack uses a mini usb cable for charging so cable is different from what you were considering

can you provide a link to your power pack? ive researched some power banks for my trip but havent seen one where you can adjust the voltage output.

The packs I have used are made by Qidian. They use 18650 batteries "not included". These have been available on eBay and through Amazon in the past. I did some searching and have found them to be unavailable at present. Perhaps someone else can chime in with a link to these or another suitable power source for dogs on the go. Sorry couldn't be more help

three-female hole claisen on the way. With this one and my other one, can quad dog so will see how that ends up... also hoping double-dogging+carbhole will possibly help w the airflow thing

Absolute madman, muunch. Haha. More power to ya.

It looks like a half-sunny day out there with winter retreating but holy jesus it's colder than a witch's tit in a brass bra. -29F with windchill, sounds like a good day for a hot coffee, a good book and a warm log. As much as I love the wenge dog, the walnut ac getting nice and hot feels so good on the hands on days like these. My brother called me up and needs me to housesit next weekend and I'm already conflicted about which vape to bring... decisions, decisions.

Did some additional searching and found the Qidian battery pack at Fasttech. It is shipped with batteries for a little over $40. Disclaimer,,,,I have never used Fasttech and cannot vouch for them.

I looked at a lot of power packs and it seems that the ones that are adjustable only adjust to factory preset voltages: 9V, 12V, 15V, 18V Not as fully adjustable as the discontinued Qidians

Hey Dogs hope you all had a good week.. time flew by for us with UD'ette being down and out plus our normal busy schedule of work, work, work. Getting a lot of stuff done with all the nice weather recently.

We're making enough progress on backed up work that we'll be starting a soft rollout of our new and improved Standard Core Mk2 (SC2) and some new power supply options as well. I say soft rollout since we'll have limited quantity as we're still dialing in the different production steps required and will limit availability to experienced Dog users a first.

There are a handful of users here on FC who have already made the jump and been using them for a few months so they'll probably chime in with opinions/observations at some point.

Yeah the voltage output in most cars will vary a significant amount based on what the alternator feels the need to put out (for battery charging) and can be as high as 15v on some cars. With the engine off voltage will run from about 13v down to about 12.4v as the battery discharges.

How long a car battery will run a Dog widely variable based on the particular battery and it's health, etc. An 'average' batter in 'decent' health should actually be able to power a Dog for a couple of days but we don't want to leave people stranded if they run a battery down too much to start the car so we're uber-conservative and say 5-8 hours should be totally safe. :2c:

Not a bad idea using a battery pack like that if you've got one. I've also had good luck using a dc converter (buck or buck/boost) or a dimmer to tame the car output in a similar fashion.

You're not the only one looking, they've been hard to find since last year when some of the popular ones were discontinued. So far we haven't seen any new models hit the market that were as good as the old ones.

Wow nice find dude! I see that almost all the other options are discontinued/out of stock so hopefully that combo is actually available and isn't just a listing mistake. If they are available that's a hell of a bargain and that particular battery pack is my favorite. If available I'd definitely recommend people pick one of those up if they want to Dog on the go.

@underdogette sent me a snap of my log-in-progress today and I've probably gone back and looked at it a dozen times tonight, I'm getting all worked up. It's really cool seeing a picture of something you imagined, and it's exactly the thing. Couple of nice quirks in the zebrawood, too. Love how it turned out @underdog, can't wait to feel it warming up in my hand. (and then warming up my brain)

Holy moly, I had no idea they were so close and you already had some out in the wild, sounds like they're almost ready for primetime once you streamline production. Looking forward to hearing what people have to say about them (and seeing pictures -- do they more or less look the same?).

What's the difference between the mk1 and mk2? Also I'm assuming the core in the zebrawood glu-lam I got recently is a mk1?

My micros have mk2s (I think?), not sure about my full-size dogs so I'll avoid saying anything for now since I can't make a comparison... I can post up pics and write some words later after receiving confirmation.

I actually decided today would be a microdog day before I went to bed last night so that worked out pretty well.
