I think you're mostly right, and I would never call an Hombre a liar over one percent, but IMO it's conduction.....period. Thermodynamics tells us the heat for evaporation (what counts....) comes in this way from energy stored in the copper pan by the lighter. By the time you get the lighter put down and the VM turned around for the hit I bet those tiny, thin tubes have cooled off? For convection to work the source of heat must be much higher (in degrees) than the target since air has low "specific heat" (that is useful heat content) compared to things like Copper. And the mass of the air is very low compared to that of the load to be heated. Not that it matters, really. It works extremely well.........

Many of us have bought directly from Switzerland. I have twice, no make that 3 times. No issues with 'drug equipment inside' labels or customs fees either personally or reported here. Fun packaging, very fast shipping, not at all like China usually is. Nothing to fear.

Although I suggest you contact @Mojo who is not only a fine fellow with lots of connections but he's here in this her Stateside.

That 1% was just to be nice and give a little benefit of the doubt. But in all reality I agree with your statement 100%. Marketing for sure. Convection is popular so it's understandable. When I heard reviewers referring to the classics convection characteristics I said no way that's really wishful thinking. It's an awesome device I want but convection it is not.

I'll try to contact this mojo poster you speak of otherwise if that doesn't pan out I will just order from the manufacturer then. Do you know what name the company puts on the return label? How do they describe the product on the customs declaration? Are there shipping costs reasonable? The good thing about ordering from the manufacturer is they have all the different options. Thanks again for your time. I appreciate it.

First off, it's Swiss of course......

Shipper is listed as "element medical ag" with street address in another language from half way around the world.....

This customs sticker lists:
1 Heatzlvice for Inhaler
1 Inhaler
1 Ligher empty
(with honest values for each).

No custom issues. But Mojo is your better choice?

I PM'ed you.

You da man!!!! How's that for Customer Service......and the fellow's not even a customer yet? Do we know how to take care of each other or what?

Thanks OF for all your help. I appreciate it a lot. You guys on here are great. He will have a new customer very soon. I get the feeling he knows how to treat customers potential or otherwise and I'm a total sucker for good customer service. Thanks again. Also I have another couple more ?. How well does the Vapman run upside down? Will the wooden top without a MP fit in a 14mm connection? Basically I'm wondering if I can run this in a MFLB orbiter. I appreciate it.

The middle section fits straight into a 14mm connector and René was working on some special middle pieces for this as well.

Many people use it upside-down with their bongs and I think I've seen people use it with the Orbiter. Hopefully, someone will chime in.

Yer welcome, glad to help when I can....as are a good number of fine folks here 'bouts as you've discovered. A strange rabble perhaps, but a good one. Hopefully soon you'll be one of us waiting for the next new friend to wonder by? The modest looking, almost 'toy like', VM is indeed a powerful tool at many levels. And very personal, even if mass produced.

You'll like our Mojo, I think you've nailed him first time. The guy is in it to offer options to others. Pure Customer Service. He's been found guilty many times of 'working with a customer' to get exactly what he wants way out of proportion to any possible profit. He could make more dollars per hour flipping burgers? He seems 'in it for the sport'. He's done so right for so many I'd say you can 'take it to the bank in Denver'.

@shmoedog: There are several reasons why vapman is not available in the US anymore. One reseller wanted the exclusive rights for the whole of North America which we could not give as it was a too difficult descission for us. Others were not happy with the margin (vapman is one of the few vaporizers not made in China) plus vapman needs a bit of explaining. 12 years ago, butan powered vaporizer did not have the best image. This started to change a few years ago and today we have a lot of clients coming from batterie driven vaporizers. 12 years ago, vapmam was well ahead of its time, a lot of folks thought, that vapes without temperature control are no good. Vapman is a long distance runner, the last 12 years were only the beginning. :D With the coming vapman station, we will relaunch vapman in the US. BTW, vapman is doing really well in Berlin, in some circles, vapman is already cult.

Vapman is a conduction vape, the mica got nothing to do with convection at all, this is a myth a reseller put in the world years ago. The mica shielding is a protection for the wood, even it reflects the heat better than the plain wood, it has nothing to do with convection. To reach the same temperature, a basic model needs a fraction more gas but this is not worth talking about, really. They all work fine!

Ordering direct from us is not really a problem for US citiziens, there are no import taxes and our boxes are plain without any logos. On the custom stickers we declare vapman as an inhaler, that's all.

I will be at the Spannabis in Barcelona over the next few days, in case there are questions, I will be back next Tuesday.

Thank you,

Vapman:)

So, it was 'on the web'? Must be true. How can you possibly say otherwise.........

A place I worked at years back had a real us/them thing going between Production and Sales. Sales (AKA 'the suits') could only sell stuff we couldn't make. We were making, among other things, a shipboard RADAR tracker (for anti collision, not easy when it takes 15 minutes to do an emergency right angle turn......). It used two knobs, one for the bearing of the ship you wanted to track, the other for the range it was from you (polar system, like the RADAR sweep you see in movies). But the military versions (that cost 20 and 30 times more....) used trackballs to move a cursor. Real sizzle at the time. Very hard to do 'on the fly' with the then available state of the art 8086 processors (we already used 3).

So I get the duty to move a completed unit to the Photographers for flashy brochure photos. Takes hours, very fiddly, I hated the duty. This time was different. We did the usual glamor shots (lots of Polaroids and lighting shifts, dusting and such). About the time we were ready to pack it in (I thought) and asked if I should have the guys from the shop come back with the truck, the OM (Old Man, owner) turns to the Graphic Artist (yes we had one full time....) and as 'did you bring it?' She said yes, and produced a shoebox with half a tennis ball painted black. Seriously. They'd scrubbed the fur off somehow and painted it black but that's what it was.......until it hit the panel, when it became a trackball.......

I freaked out, as you might imagine, having been part of the meetings were it was discussed in great detail how difficult it was, how expensive and how many pitfalls there might be. The OM looked at me, smiled, and said 'but we've already sold two of them.....'.

And he was right, it was on the new sales brochure. Which came out not long after, and about two years before we finally made it happen. By then we'd sold a couple more of course. Never worked well, overheated on hot bridges (not all have AC, not all of that works right all the time). Because we didn't Beta test well we didn't find out until we'd installed a dozen or so. We had to meet every one of those ships where ever they made port long enough to go aboard, cut holes for four fans in the back and vents under the toeboard in front. Very expensive way to do business. But popular with suits......who are only after commissions.....

Sorry to ramble, but it's a fun memory.

That is a very informative answer and I appreciate you taking the time to quench my curiosity. I respect and admire that you maintained your quality standards and did not take your product to China just to make more money. In fact none of my Vaporizers are made in China. That's a big deal to me. I want quality products made of quality materials especially if I'm going to be inhaling things through them. I'm also very curious about this station you speak of. I seen it on your website but it was sold out. I will be checking more into this Vapman station. I would like to see a video of it being used and discussed. I may have to get one.

I knew it. You don't need a degree in thermal dynamics to see that but it helps lol. It's nice to hear confirmation from the artist himself. It's great to see you debunking the myth about your own product. Very honest.
From what I can see this is a great company with an amazing product and after all the help I have received from OF, and M0J0 plus to actually have the artist himself chime in I must absolutely own one of these amazing little devices. Very soon I will be joining the extensive Vapman family. Super excited.

Watch René demonstrate the Station on my videos page: infinityvm.com/videos

The cool thing about the station is that it maintains the same rhythm of the Torch. This is awesome.

It has a Cult Following in the US as well.

True enough, but more like a mob really. Not very organized nor well thought through.......

For example that recognizing each other by secret hand signs isn't working out all that well on Al Gore's Internet?

Very soon I will be joining the extensive Vapman family. Super excited.

Good news! Welcome to the fun.

Scoot down the bench some, guys, we need more room.

I have yet to meet another fellow vapman in person.... Ive been on this forum for 6 years and I still have yet to meet up with one/run into a vapman user. I always bring my vapmans to festivals and all I get are the ignorant, "whats that thing?" The day I get someone saying , "HOLY SHIT THATS A VAPMAN" will be one of the happiest days of my life! Hope to see you guys soon!
For the people worrying about customs I recently got 15 vapmans in the mail from Element and nothing was missing at all. I dont think they cracked open a single egg.
NOT TO MENTION FREE PRIORITY SHIPPING!!! (Switzerland to Cali in about a week)

I made my decision I think:rolleyes:. I'm in love :love:with the basic two-tone Buddhist infinity knot. Really liking the walnut. The Japanese charred finish is really cool. Looks better than the Mica IMO and does the same job. Also really digging the laser engravings. Especially around the bottom. Next week I'm pulling the trigger. Super excited.
I'm thinking of using a glass MFLB stem as a mouthpiece I read somewhere on here it fits. I like to see my vapor production. Has anyone else done this? If so did work well?

the feeling of accomplishment of aiming the torch just right and enjoying a satisfying inhale engenders the illusion of purpose.

While I agree in the general case, I don't agree with the illusion part. That satisfying hit is the goal, the whole reason for being. IMO it's about as real as it can get.

Not that it matters all that much, getting dangerously close to discussions of dancing angels and average pin head size.

Did you improved your Gourmet Box?

I am nearly done with my first version.. pics coming soon TM
Yes, but I got already another new layout to test in daily live.:D
In the moment I got a lot of other works to do, but I hope to have more time for my hobbies and bricolage soon.

btw: The one vapman I ordered of Rene/Swiss went trough Customs in Germany (so +20%).
Was this just no luck?
I guess so.:(

I thought that EU thing was supposed to fix all that?
Switzerland is not a Part of the EU, we only got some bilateral agreements. For the moment I'm not unhappy, that we are not a member of the EU and also in some ways independent... (whistling) ;)
Otherwhise, it would cost us our direct democracy system and by the way a lot of finances. IMHO the EU is initial a good idea, but a bottomless pit and an administrativ moloch...
