Hey I've been buying pre filled ecig type cartridges and purchased a battery from a smoke shop. Was hoping to get reccomendations on a better battery.
This is what I currently have:http://www.joyetech.com/product/ego-t-650mah-battery/?age-verified=8ce9a60b74
Thanks!

I think the Ego is a pretty good 'battery', certainly there are many poorer examples out there. One upgrade you might consider is the 'twist' version of the same general guy? It features a knob on the base so you can adjust the output voltage.....very handy with that sort of prefilled carts.

Another option is to take the step up to 'mods', that is proper supplies like the e-cig guys use, which are available in several small feature filled packages. You might consider iStick TC40W, iStick Power Nano and eVic Basic (also made by Joytech, like your current unit). These feature not only variable Voltage, but Variable Power, a much more precise type of control. They also have useful battery charge 'meters' (display icons) and you can, but button presses, call up the exact charge to 1/100 of a Volt.

These guys are larger than the 650mAh unit you now have, but have much higher capacity (battery life) in exchange. They recharge quickly by USB cable (included) and are proven performers at the low end of the e-cig range (plenty of power for us of course, an the extra capacity (40 Watts on tap, using 5) means the mod isn't 'breaking a sweat' at all supplying our wants and desires.

You can also get units like Pico and eVic Mini that let you use 18650s for even more capacity but in a larger, heavier package. The smaller ones with built in batteries in the 1500mAh range are plenty I think

You should be able to find those guys for $20 to $30 if you look around on line, a bit more for US sources with fast shipping, less for overseas ones.

While the Twist is useful, IMO the small mods above are much superior.

Awesome! Thank you for the extremely informative answer. My only question is that to use one of these more pro "mods" can I still use the pre filled carts I have been buying, or will I need to buy oil separately? Thanks!

Yer welcome. Yes, as long as the carts have the standard ("510") connector you're Jake. This will give you longer run time, control over output/power, and a useful battery charge indicator.

If you want to really 'move up town' there are other options you can get that also screw into that same connector and use oil and other concentrates (there are others much nicer than the common oil used in mass produced carts) that will work with those very mods as well.

If you look at your battery you'll see another set of external threads below the button? That's the "T" part, for tank. Sometimes used for some carts, but a $5 adapter fixes that.

"If you like your carts, you can keep your carts".

Awesome. I was told I just need to run the mods at 5 watts or else it would burn the liquid too quickly. Thanks again!

You decide. Don't let them do it for you. Works in other areas of life as well?

They never told you to try lower power though for instance, did they? Good things there too. Cranking it up for 'clouds' it was never designed for is not the only option. FWIW I run my favorite 'oil burner' of the class at 4.5 Watts in fact, I just checked. When the cart is new (and contamination is not an issue) even lower powers are the call for me. You decide what works best for you, don't let me or anyone else do it for you. Advice is not the same as sound judgement?

And that will probably vary with strain, hit size and such. Experiment and follow the results you like?

If you can, give it a try. IMO the odds of your ever putting the old ego battery back on line are long indeed. And your chances of leaving the dial set at 5.0 Watts full time not much better........

Regards and best wishes.

Thanks again for the all the help. I'm going to try out the mods. My only hesitation is that it's very easy for me to buy pre-filled carts, but not easy to get just oil that I can pour into something of my own.

Lucky for you those prefilled carts will also screw onto standard mods, same thread. And they can easily mimic or exceed standard 'batteries'. Easier to recharge, too (USB) and with higher capacity you don't need to do it as often, and with the 'battery meter' you know when........
