Underdog Log Vapes

Yeah man, I was using some shatter the other day. Just wrap up a pretty big dab (I was doing like .1g for a 30min sesh) in as small a ball of hemp fiber as you can and really ball it up so the shatter isn't exposed... Drop it in your short GonG, move screen closer to heater if necessary and rip away.

I can do concentrates with just the 12v plug but it's possible you'll need the 15v if your dog runs cool.

I'll make an instagram video as best I can in one take+one minute if you want after I take this test lol.

I like using concentrates like this, but dabbing off a nail is def better flavor and better effects. You will get fucking ripped, but obviously it's different since I kinda chill and sesh with the concentrates in my dog, rather than blast it all in one hit like a dab.

I've tried shatter and sugar wax with success so unless you're working with some really runny shit I think you'll be good.

Does anyone have any suggestions or pics of custom stem holder setups? I'm thinking about just using solid wood with holes drilled to hold them upright, or possibly even a test tube drying rack or something.

Generally any kind of pen stand will work well for this. Here's an example of a real nice exotic wood one.

https://www.amazon.com/Rosewood-Ebony-Upright-Pen-Stand/dp/B0095P7HQ6

Others can be got for cheaper obviously too, just search around and I'm sure you'll find one that you like.

Let us know if you find a suitable solution! I am certainly looking for one, as nothing frustrates me more than setting one of my stems down somewhere (sometimes I'll rest them in a nook on my keyboard or try and stand them up, upside-down) and it falls or I knock it over.

CLINK!!!

The worst sound, and now I have herb everywhere (and probably in my goddamn keyboard ffs! :myday:)

I bought some wooden bowls but they're SO SHALLOW I'm a dumbass. I was looking at some rolling tray type deals (so that I can keep it wooden... moonhay and some other bamboo tray maker I found) but that still leaves them susceptible to rolling away and etc lol.

the test tube drying rack would be great and cheap but would look too out of place for me to get, I think... idk I tried some shatter in my dog again just to make sure I wasn't recommending some false methods (yep... that was the reason) so this is probably the worst post ever bye

I seem to have a bad case of VAS
I'm going to guess that was a rambled post from you @muunch because the concentrate in your dog?

I think that was more than the convincing needed that I will be picking up some degummed hemp fiber to use in my pup. If I can get half as medicated :smug:

I think I will be making the right choice. What is your instagram by the way? Want to see some more underdog videos to keep the anticipation alive!

Rugged enough for use as a portable desktop. Perhaps? I like being able to uncord my VVPS and roll up the cords and unit for possibly taking elsewhere. If you can go as small as my TPN-023 with similar hard set dials and knobs but with more durable electronics and PCB, that might be a direction if you are making an in-house option.
Just brainstorming here. How about a simple wooden cylinder with all the hardware inside. So you can perhaps lathe the smaller pieces that are too small for logs. Perhaps even shaped as a platform for your log to set in for stability?

My selfish aim is to be able to take my UD, a VVPS and a lightweight enough, but powerful battery to carry to say a cabin somewhere without stressing about power consumption for a weekend.

Thanks, glad you like. And glad to hear my method is O.K. and that those with underbutter can have that lemon pledge wood smell. BTW. I actually vape lemongrass. If that tells you how much I like it.

Does anybody use Eucalyptus oil and wax in the copper bowls? I use lemongrass and a single drop of lime oil. Have Clove and tea tree oil lying around.

It is nice being able to switch from aromatherapy to :hmm:ummm ....... vapor therapy. :haw:

So I was on to something and not being silly by rotating my stems to change where the hottest point is. Want to perfect that technique even more then. :sherlock:

Rugged and easily portable with more durable electronics/pcb is exactly what I'm aiming for. I'd be happy enough if I could reproduce our old travel VVPS and regular sized one.

Personally, I don't mind spending more money for reliability. I think those wanting to save money can continue to use the dimmers as a "cheap" option, as they're still fairly reliable... I'd say my voltage jumping issue happens <5% of the time (and they're both on 24/7) so that's still pretty good success rate for a <$30~ish option.

Yeah same here (spending for quality/reliability).. that's been the problem in the past, trying to source the electronics on an ongoing basis and have them be of decent quality. I'm working with a new contact now so hopefully we can get something going.

Underdog is the perfect name for this vape. Asks for nothing, yet gives everything just like a loyal dog. They work even better if their coat is well kept & they get petted daily. Just one of many areas of ownership that gives me a sense of child like wonder.

Thanks man!

@underdog This is super helpful as I'm looking to switch to soldered barrel plugs since it will help testability and such. The terminal blocks are easy to probe, but this makes that setup just as easy. I would personally love to see more insight and pics of your electronics setup and tools as you find things to share! My biggest challenge right now is finding the ideal cable setup and balancing durability and functionality with maintainability. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah exactly, the terminal blocks work fine and for prototyping, repairs and whatnot they're great.. but a sleeker more durable/functional setup is always nice. I'll definitely share more little things like this as I come across them and have enough clean desk space to take pictures.

Showing off the weekly desktops. 'Curly' UD in the lower half. Can mount the colored, less heavier 'Spoon' and F/F adapter on a Nong with the UD and get the thick glass draw instead of the J-hook which is great for squeezing tiny amounts. BTW.

The 13.0 setting and proper draw strength slowed down by the j-hook allow me to skip grinding and use the SS stem like a cutting tool and take out a core sample of materials and vape that. The pic is low res and doesn't really capture the detail and patina of the wood. But you might get an impression how the grain goes in a different direction then the sheen pattern. The TnT is the wood I wanted in a UD, but the one I ended up with is more suited to me. Glad I got the stem to quiet that impulse. :haw: :peace:

Quite the setup there man, thanks for posting. Nice to see the Dog kicking it with the big-gun vapes lol.. hope they're all playing friendly.

Does anyone have any suggestions or pics of custom stem holder setups? I'm thinking about just using solid wood with holes drilled to hold them upright, or possibly even a test tube drying rack or something.

We used to make what we called 'Stem Caddies' which worked nicely enough and were just nice blocks of solid wood with appropriate size holes on them to hold various stems. They'd definitely be easy enough for most people with some basic tools to make.

For off the shelf stuff we have some Dog owners having good luck with various pen displays as @sixstringsmash suggested. I know at least some of them are using some cool drawer style ones which I think I'd prefer to the standup kind. Here's an example of one, I say example because you can get better prices and selection at other places besides Amazon but this is the style I'm talking about (in bamboo).

I hate that CLINK sound! lol

I'm still checking into that stem caddie idea we'd talked about previously but also see my above post about the drawer kind of holders.

I'm going to guess that was a rambled post from you @muunch because the concentrate in your dog?

I usually speak in a 'stream-of-conscious' type way (obviously more apparent irl) but gets even worse and less filtered when I'm baked.

I'm using the RBT hemp fiber but yeah it works great and I can hit .15 of shatter for like an hour of taking a drag every couple of min. It's really nice. The claisen is also great bc it works as a reclaim catch... not that I care about the reclaim but helps keep it out of my piece :)

My insta is muunch_

Had a long day today but I'll post up some stuff tomorrow. I need to keep myself entertained these next few days waiting for Breath of the Wild...

Also! I don't mind throwing my stems wherever when not in use, it's just when I'm using the DD stems and I wanna step away after one hit or something, I don't wanna leave the stem in the dog... as bud will fall onto the heater or it'll just char or something lol... and so I end up having to put the dang thing somewhere where it inevitably gets knocked over and spilling. And even losing a stems-worth is disappointing with such an efficient vape, bc those crumbs woulda got me baked. :')

I'm considering just ordering from an Etsy shop like this one and requesting a custom hole diameter to fit the glass stems. I'll probably make a nice station/caddy myself at some point, but that might be a dead easy and still relatively cheap way to get a great fitting one in the meantime.

Generally any kind of pen stand will work well for this. Here's an example of a real nice exotic wood one.

Thanks! I didn't even think about pen stands until you mentioned them. That's a great idea to find higher quality stands.

That's a perfect example! Looking back through the thread, it's exactly what I had in mind. I might just order something from Etsy for simplicity right now, but I'll probably make a nicer one myself when I can find a good shop to work from.

Well, tbh this looks like exactly what I want. I could give a damn less if the fit is exact, as long as it can hold em upside-down and doesn't look weird on my desk, I'm happy.

You are a better, more persistent, search-voyaging man than I - and for that I thank you and a tip of my dog to ye.

I'll be ordering one shortly and will update. You can think of this as my repayment to you finding them if you please ;)

Nice! I wasn't settled on the last one, so it's good to see alternatives. I was going to do all 5/8 inch since I mostly use glass stems and it'd probably also work for nylon and others.

But I did just dig up clamps, glue, a saw, drill, and rasp file, and I believe I may have just convinced myself to pick up wood and try making a couple by hand.

I agree. I toss everything into my Milaana tin box in my drawer and keep the shit I want close at hand in/on those shallow ass bowls I got that I keep on my desk, so some organization would be dope.

I held off on buying anything last night and will see if I can maybe find something better or if I can get something custom like @Stevenski

Hmm... I had just been using a coffee mug for the stems in service with the others in my vape junk drawer. That birch log holder looks pretty sweet though. Nice find.

/And Dave, props on making use of Amazon Smile, that's a pretty cool underutilized feature.

That birch log dude said he'd make me a custom with depths/widths of my chosing after he returns from a trip next month so I'll probably go for that since it's cheap as shit and maintains the log style

Edit: btw double doggin is just silly. feels way way stronger than vaping 2 stems separately. I'd totally recommend it to anyone who haa 2 dogs. My next test will be double dog + concentrates. Will save this for after I first boot up my Switch :science:

Hey Dogs, happy Hump Day!

Busy working in the shop today since we're trying to make the most of this California sun while we have it.. plus shipping lots of Dogs out since the mini-refresh UD'ette put up last night.

Lots of fun stuff going on so I best get back to it I suppose!

@Diggy Smalls

I know a user who likes to use a 4-way setup and drives 4 different Dogs at different temps (and with different strains) to achieve some kind of effect that he/she can't get with a single strain/temp. Pretty interesting stuff. :science:

muunch

Damn that sounds interesting... I tried to match temps when I did it yesterday, but the effects felt like a small dab off my quartz nail with less body-groginess...

Not sure how I'd feel about mixing temps/strains but I'm at the very least interested to see how 4dogs can be used at once... If I bought 2 more claisens to do it, I feel like it'd be so unstable/at risk of breaking due to weight but I'm sure there are 3/4/5/etc holed-claisens...

Yeah, IIRC they're using a 4 holed one with a set of custom Mini size Dogs, OS NonGs and a 4 output lab power supply. The Minis are small enough that it's not too unwieldy from what I hear. Certainly not something most of us would mess with but this person is a chemist/drug researcher so it probably doesn't seem too complex to them. :freak:

Hmm, sounds awesome. I'll have to take a look around...

I'm only a student still but work in a pharmacy currently and am hopefully going down a similar career path (emphasis on drug research rather than chem though...)

I'm too much of a flavor junkie currently but maybe I'll get over it and start mixing strains again...
