Sticky Brick Junior by Sticky Brick Labs

I seem to have a bad case of VAS
I haven't been using the Junior that much this winter. I don't spend as much time out and about, and at home I usually reach for my OG Brick. I decided I needed to change that so I've been enjoying using my Junior the past few days.

It needs a little different technique than it's big brother, and isn't quite as smooth because of the shorter vapor path. I actually prefer the more robust vapor profile of the Junior, it's not harsh at all, just has a bit of a bite to it. I believe the e-cig guys call that "throat hit".

This throat hit actually makes it a little easier to judge the vapor temperature. With my OG it's so smooth I mostly rely on visual feedback, and I don't like using it in the dark for that reason. With the Junior I can use it simply by feel, I could probably keep my eyes closed once I have the torch in place.

It's been nice switching it up, and I'm determined not to neglect Junior in the future. It really is a fantastic vaporizer, desktop performance that fits in your pocket, 'nuff said! Stay Sticky everybody!

I know the feeling. At home I almost always reach for my OG, but luckily my SO will reach for the junior so it sees more love from her. I still use it often, like taking it out on the balcony when the stars are out.

I think your described the difference between the OG and junior perfectly. I didn't have a reference point and always said it hit me harder in the lungs, but throat hit sounds more accurate. I can also take the junior farther darkening than the OG. I'm sure it has to do with the short/bent heat intake.

Dang @Vapor_Eyes, hope you didn't polish that off in one sitting!
God no! That was a roughly three gram bud of Green Crack (22% TAC).

Believe it or not I consider myself a microdoser. I do medicate frequently due to chronic pain, but I generally only take a hit or two at a time. The Sticky vaporizers are perfect for this usage pattern as they are 100% on demand, I don't have to worry about my material being wasted when I'm not hitting it.

Part of why I love mine so much.
The other part is taste. Egads, every time I think about the flavor through these things my mouth starts to water.

Until I got my Brick I thought the Crafty and Hopper gave me some great flavors.
While both are quality vapes, the taste out of these Bricks is really on a different level.

Maybe a little grease, wax, oil between the o-ring and the stem? I'm having the same small issue...I'll let you know what I do to fix it and you do the same?

This isn't the place to discuss butane safety or lack thereof...just to let you know.

But I would think the risk would be just as high eating something cooked on a butane grill? I haven't saw any class action lawsuits suing gas grills for long term damage from butane consumption

@WakeAndVape No, gap between stem and o-ring is clean too. But draw restistant sometimes is so much that I' m fearing to broke the glass while turning it. Perhaps some lubricant which not damages silicone?

I've been using a drop of Pax lube (supplied for use on their mouth piece) on my finger, then rubbing the o-ring between two fingers. It leaves just a tiny film of oil and then the glass slides thru nicely. Whenever I clean my glass, I clean the o-rings so they don't get sticky.

Not sure what I'll do when that oil runs out, but I've got some time to order/find something similar, a drop at a time and only at cleanings, it will last a while.

Have to shoot a big thanks out to the SBL team, especially Kenny! I got my Maxx and SBJ at the same time and fell head over heels with the Maxx. Because the one handed nature of the Mi makes it more convenient than the SBJ, that became my first portable choice. The poor SBJ got used, but very little love.

Flash forward and I almost always have a dhgate mini bomb ht on the Maxx in use. As a treat, I threw my Turbine HT on there and got truly Maxxed out, to the point of putting unit down with the heavier glass still on the unit. Cracked the male intake on the spot. That just happened to be the only piece of glass I hadn't ordered backups for for both the Maxx and SBJ lol, go figure.

SBL customer service was great about everything and beyond helpful!

By the way, while my Maxx was out of commission, I took the time to really learn the SBJ. My biggest problem has been the damn thing being too close for my aging eyesight and getting the flame aimed decent! Enter the @DDave V1 mode kit glass for the Mi. Running that dry sitting right on the SBJ mouthpiece moves everything back into focus and I've found a new dancing partner!

I now feel the same about my SBJ as I do my Maxx. I can work any given load down until it's truly spent. Throwing it in my Evo at 2-3 gets me nothing, it's dark chocolate brown, it's spent. I also love the added moisture because of the butane.

This weekends kit was the SBJ, two doob tubes, two torches, the ddave glass, eye drops and a small silicone mat I use to turn the intake hot so i can close everything up right away if needed. The only thing I'll change next time is one more doob tube! All this fit nicely into a Pelican 1060 and would be enough for a normal weekend depending on how much herb I'm sharing. It's perfect.

Enough Maxxed rambling, there's work to be done and herb to be vaped!

It's actually possible to use the lid to rotate the heat intake while it's hot. It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it at first.

I figured that out too and did it that way for a while, also using the lid to put the hot torch end into. In the end, I like having the mat. Keeping it in my case, it works like a magnet catching all the duff and loose bits and washes up easy.

After heavy use the screen of my SBJ is a little bit clogged and air path has to much draw resistance.
Any suggestions for cleaning/changing the screen?

I scratched it out, did some higher heated dry draws, scratched it out again. Was much more better but not perfectly.

For removing and cleaning the screen, I was able to get mine out using a slight bent paper clip and popping it out from the bottom. Cleaning, just soaked it in iso.

As for cleaning the unit, I just use hot water and cotton swabs on the internal wood. The cotton swabs are just damp not soaking. The vapor path, I have cleaned out with a soft bristle zen pipe cleaner folded over twice, also damp with hot water. So far, I have only done that twice and it worked well both times.

Got my walnut SBJ just under a week ago, and while there have certainly been some learning bumps and bruises, I would say I'm overall smitten with the device thus far. Excellent craftsmanship.

I've realized the single most important aspect of technique is draw-strength/speed. Seems to me more fast and powerful lung-pulls create cooler temps and you can rip and milk cleaner non-weed scorching vapor for longer. At first I thought it was more about carb play and flame size which of course are both also important enough to experiment with, but at the end of the day draw-speed, draw-speed, draw-speed! Write that down!

Edit to add: Ranking of importance for individual components of technique -

1.) Draw-speed
2.) Draw-speed, seriously!

3.) Carb play
4.) Flame size
5.) distance of flame from intake
6.) Factors more beyond control, i.e. weed type, room/air temp etc.

I agree, draw speed is key with this vape. The key is to match the draw speed with your flame. Bigger flames give bigger hits, but require faster draw speeds.

Another thing I have found important is to never slow down your draw speed drastically. That will quickly create a hot spot or possibly lead to combustion. If you feel the need to slow your draw speed it's probably best to stop hitting it anyway. If you do want to slow your draw speed try to do it gradually while moving the flame further away from the intake. This will help prevent hot spots.

When I am finished with my hit I like to remove the flame, but keep hitting it for a second or two. I think this also might help reduce hot spots but I'm not sure. With my technique I only have to stir at the end of a chamber, even if I pack it full. Of course I slip up sometimes too and get a hot spot, but it's rare.

I really enjoy using a faster draw speed, so I love the wide open airflow of the Junior. Stay Sticky everyone!

I've adopted using a plug in the carb all the time now. It's not as wide open draw but have just gotten used to it that way. I always use a slow draw to get the load hotter faster because I like to kill the load quicker. I don't like long sessions as much as I used to. I supposed I've adapted That from dabbing so much:lol:.
I'm still rocking the 3/4 to 1 inch flame.

I've also been using concentrates in the junior as well using a firefly concentrate pad. It's alot like using a healthstone. Definitely recommend it to others who have not tried it.

Definitely need to give the concentrate pad tech a try. Anybody tried the pads for the crafty/mighty instead? Do they also fit/work?

BTW: Slow Draw, are you the one behind the brand's instagram account? or is it the actual SBL account on here that also manages that?

The SBL account is managed by the company, my IG account is "All about that vapor"

I actually tried plain concentrate in my Jr for the first time last night too, using RBT's shredded steel mesh made into a big pad to fit this bowl. Took a tiny tiny piece of something I had gotten from a friend a long time ago (I don't really use concentrates myself at all aside from pen cartridges now and dabbing with him) and it worked quite well!

Also replaced my Jr screen for the first time since I got it, had pushed so much material through the screen scraping it clean every bowl lol no wonder I always get great hits from an empty bowl too!

I did notice though that the bowl size does seem to be a tiny bit narrower than Daisy, as 5/8 screens fit but have to be forced and concaved to do so (like the one that came with it was) which is fine but not as ideal as my Daisy where they just drop in (though they can be loose and fall out easier there when fresh)... Is the big Brick like the Jr or Daisy?

Diameter is still close and obviously I love using the Jr as it is, like now it's my top torch vape over Daisy... Also did a whole nug in it last night, amazed how well it works, just break it up as you stir, nice to not lose any trichromes to grinding! It is so fun being able to use it in so many different ways

@Shit Snacks: I don't have a Daisy but I'm pretty sure the OG Brick uses the same size screens. The screens just drop into the OG perfectly, but need to be a little rounded to fit in Junior like you mention.

@AmsterDAB16: The answer to your question is related to my previous reply. The crafty/Mighty concentrate pads fit perfectly in the OG Brick, but require slight modification to fit in Junior's bottom half (third?). The easiest way is gently squeezing the circumference with pliers to make them thinner but taller. It's not hard to do at all.

They fit perfectly in the top metal intake sleeve with no modification, some people use them to absorb heat and prevent hot spots when using flowers. It might add a bit of conduction too.

Pelicans are great cases! I have a 1020, a couple of 1040's and 50's plus a 1060 for my concentrates. Great additions to the kit.

Partly for @Lookatmeglow, here's my Cedar production Jr along with my Spalted Maple beta Jr, now converted into a full-time HydroJr next to my go to inline honeycomb bubbler when I do water filtration, rare as that may be these days:

ajZ17VF.jpg

Started using my Lily's stock glass mouthpiece (which I never used much) as a heat intake for my beta Jr, it's a bit narrower ID so don't need to hold flame too close actually. I like the straight intake for the beta's wider diameter bowl, and much easier to aim than the beta intake I struggled with, haven't tried the production intake on the beta yet, though I do seem to prefer it overall. The shorter beta Jr mouthpiece connects well to a right angle 18mm whip adapter from dhgate with a small piece of silicone, works great ergonomically.

Hopefully some day we can get a sort of U-turn adapter made like this that's all glass to swap in for Jr mouthpieces? Might that be possible @StickyBricks & @Slow Draw McGraw as a future accessory for a proper HydroJr?
