What's your favorite torch or lighter to use with the Vapcap?

The Scorch Torch (Zippo Style) Dual Flame Butane Torch is a nice lighter. The cap is a tiny bit loose, but it doesn't seem to leak the fuel like a regular wick Zippo. It can be flicked open if you want to, but I wouldn't, to preserve the life of the cap. It lights on he first try almost every time (>9/10). The thing gets HOT. It can easily turn your VapCap or other pieces of metal glowing red in several seconds, if you are not careful.

It's currently unavailable on Amazon, but listing is still there, so it might be stocked up there, again.

Has someone found a ligher that would fit into the dynastash? Or would someone be able to make one themselves?
@Squiby has a lighter that fits into the @Ratchett Dynavap leather case. Not what you asked, but I thought it might help...

Another way to dress your Vapcap in style. This is the @Ratchett Leather Vapcap Pouch. It holds a Vapcap, regular or XLS length, a doob tube for your herb and a slim cylindrical jet lighter.

The clasp is also a magnet.

Thought I would share a reliable EU Ebay store in Poland for well priced torches. seller name: top2009top
I got a few Atomic brand twin jet ones real cheap that don't seem to be in stock now (maybe ask?), like this:
2515301-d.jpg

Nice size and the base is clear to check gas level.
Most of their stock looks of the same acceptable quality with good prices and non-stupid postage prices.
When I added three lighters the postage is the same as for one.
They also sell watches and such so you might have to scroll through a page or two, or if you search any Ebay for "Gas Turbo Lighter Jet Flame", you'll probably see some of their stock.
They have some single jet, dual, triple and quad too!

Sooooo I'm thinking of going for a Zippo style lighter.

I miss using my Zippo from days gone and I've found a way of making it work.

£14 for the Black Zippo From Amazon
£22 for the ThunderBird Dual Flame insert (YTube Vid)

That is a great idea! I have a few Zippos lying around too that don't get used now.
There was one of these inserts on Ebay from US but the price with ship and duties was a bit much, and it's gone now anyway!
It doesn't look like there are enough sellers of this anywhere.
And that video you posted advises against the Z-plus brand so I'm kinda set on the KGM Vector!
I should check Amazon, or email KGM for a well priced solution.

Figured this would be a good post to jump on the back of and give a quick usage review of the Thunderbird insert.

CONTEXT:
I'm using mine with an Blackwood Omni VonG XL (4th Gen Ti tip, I think)

WHY I WENT THUNDERBIRD:
Like @blackstone said the, the YT review stated the Thunderbird was a better unit than the Z-Plus so thats the one I went for. It is a bit pricey but I love and miss using a Zippo so that makes me a nostalgic sucker.

I actually ended up buying a new basic black Zippo as the Zippo I currently have has too much sentimental value to risk losing...and I will at some point lose this thing. Also it goes nicely with my blackwood stem. Guess that makes me a sentimental sucker with more money than sense. :freak: Although it is cool being able to customise your lighter you VapCap if you are into your customisations.

FUELING THUNDERBIRD (H&S Version):
It came with a bit of fuel in it that didn't last an evening so make sure you have some decent butane lying around (well not just lying around but safely stashed somewhere aware from hot fire type stuff). I struggled to fill the Thunderbird until I bled all the air out of the unit by holding the inlet valve down until the hissing stopped. Do this outside incase there is any residual gas and try to avoid ignition sources while you are doing it. Also here is a guide on how to suck eggs (not really).

USAGE WITH OMNI:
Once filled up properly I have found this to be great with the VapCap.

The dual jets seem to work well giving me a couple of click in around 6-10 seconds (indoors, not tried outside yet). For me that's actually as quick as I need or want it.

It's easy enough to twist the VapCap over the flames, they provide a nice even spread of heat to the cap and I've only combusted by accident once. I haven't tested with other lighters with differing numbers of jets but the two jet system seems to be working well for me.

Now that I know how to fill the unit properly I'm onto testing how long I can use the lighter between fillings.

I'm sure this Zippo + Inset choice is by no means the cheapest, smallest, fastest heating choice but what it lacks in everything is.... I dunno I just like it. :D

Hi @Squiby, nice post, do you know if that lighter would fit in the material section of a DynaStash XL?

Not unless you had the stash custom drilled.

I haven't measured it myself but the eBay page lists the lighter dimensions at 82mm*17mm*10mm. It is shorter than a regular sized Vapcap by a good 1/4 inch and the oval stash opening is longer than 17mm. Maybe they can drill it out for you...

Thanks @Squiby, good suggestion on drilling out the DynaStash, I could probably do it myself with 'Extra Long Reach Double Cut Carbide Rotary Burr Set'. I do think there is wasted depth on the Dynastash XL stash section and I'm sure I could get an extra mm circumference space.

Would require steady hand though :ugh:. I'm going to procrastinate on it for a little bit :D

Anybody try one of these yet ??

It looks like a clone of the Xikar Stratosphere . I'm looking for a cheap single flame or double that's easy on butane for when I'm out and about . Sorry I'm not posting my favorite , I just don't have one yet . I only own a Zico Quad flame that I'm not super fond of . Nothing against Zico , I just didn't pick the right lighter for me .

OK, I've measured and eyeballed it. It does appear to have enough space to drill or carve out a bit for the lighter to fit. In fact the oval stash diameter measurements are within a mm or so. I think I'm going to drill out the stash of my Paduak stash....

Yeah, have the same thoughts about Zippo + Vector Thunderbird!

Most of Zippos are trash but there are some precious but more expensive ones too.
There are some real beauties - especially those from Japan!

Zippo delivers customzing in another way. Could be a 2nd battlefield for legoing ;-)

If you like there are some pretty ones out of wood too. Here and here for example.

Something like this would be nice in its own way but unfortunately sold.

Guess I will enter the same train.

I'll be doing the same definitely, I'm keeping an eye out for a blackwood DynaStash XL (George knows) so I'm willing to sacrifice my current one for the cause. Might be a few weeks though as I have a number of DIY projects on the go at the moment.

Yeah, there are some really nice dragons. If you dont use it price for that will rise :p

100-200 $ for a lighter sleeve is a lot of money - better 2-3 new bodies/stems? :hmm:

Up to now I've spent so much money for all of my VC things - but all I already have is a damaged VC - its actually my most expensive device..fucking splurge - so what :\

Ha so true, the @VapCap generates a desire (nay a need) for customisation. I'm already on a waitlist with @phattpiggie. @Winegums is producing some enticing looking designs as well and I'm totally getting a NonaVong when they are available.

When will it end? NEVER!!!

Now that blackwood lighter would go really well with my double crowned blackwood stem....must resist, can't keep spending money...arhh I need help.

I guess DV has to create their own Zippo sleeves!
They would sell some hundreds of them for sure - Dyna Vap Zippo collectables in small series.
With their logo?
With a picture or engraving of a VC tip?
Or with wood inlays (blackwood, cocobolo, burl, bw ebony)?
With two inlayed magnets, one to hold the lighter, one to hold the cap?

I have to say my experience with the thunderbird differs drastically. I bought one as a solution to my fuel drying out too quickly, and it completely fell apart in several weeks. First the valve wouldn't always open, then the pin that held the flint wheel in just fell out, and it was impossible to re-assemble.

I typically use hemp-wick if I'm combusting, otherwise it's my e-nail all day for concentrates, or a $20 Scorch Torch creme brulee torch.

Thunderbird insert is a 2flame for 14/15 $. What do you expect?
I believe there is not 'the best' Zippo torch insert, just the 'less worst' like all lighters in this range of price - and more expensive ones.

I'm using the dual flame Thunderbird and its working great. No real world complaints.

Could do with double the fuel tank but physics keeps getting in the way.

Edit: actually I do have a real world complaint, it's hard to tell how full the fuel tank is, could do with a transparent tank or view window.

You could get the z plus extreme 2.0 zippo insert. It has a clear tank so you can see how much fuel is in the tank. PLUS it has an angled dual flame which seems like it'd be perfect for the vapcap. Admittedly I dont own one but it looks nice. http://www.ebay.com/itm/400753109510

Thanks for the suggestion bud,

That's exactly what I had in mind and don't know why the Thunderbird hasn't got the same transparent tank.

However I opted for the Thunderbird over the 'Z Plus Extreme' because of this YouTube vid:

'Thunderbird butane insert VS Z-Plus butane insert'.

Basically the Thunderbird wins out on:
  • Snug fit in the Zippo case (according to vid the ZPE isn't as snug)
  • Ease of refueling (the YT vid uploader said they had trouble refueling the ZPE)
If someone else has a different experience with the ZPE I'd love to hear about it, they are about £19 here so I may give one a try at some point.

Yeah I've read the fit of both the brands can vary a bit. Some loose and some on the tight side. On another note, I've seen an awesome looking titanium zippo-type shell that I've been drooling over:drool:. Its a little too expensive for me but I've heard good things about it. http://m.dhgate.com/product/titaniu...-shell/395775813.html#s1-1-1;searl|1214069193 Full titanium with a improved lid hinge(over real zippos) and a seal to make it airtight so fluid doesnt evaporate. It would pair perfectly with a matching omnivap:nod:
