Yeah it's too bad they don't produce some of those awesome HT's anymore....same with the older evolver.

Given that I combusted a couple of times with hi temps I doubt max temp is 225C. I think more 250/270C.. Is it even possible?

I doubt it. That's way too hot and forsure would lead to combustion. I think combustion with the evo is the exception not the rule. I think the only real way to combust in the evo is one of two scenarios:

1. defective evo/broken bamboo
or
2. suuuper slow and long draw on abv or super fine grind dry material on max temp super heat soaked?

I got my EVO to combust once but I had to turn the dial all the way up and really huff on it for a bit. At first I thought it wouldn't do it but I did get it to with some effort. I definitely had to go out of my way to make it happen.

Our evos must be tuned differently! As long as I don't go past 2ish I'll never combust but I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally flicked the evo dial with my wrist all the way up and blackened my whole ELB when trying to take a hit. Not saying that I combust with it a lot but if I accidentally put the temp up way too much a combustion even is definitely probably going to happen unless I realize what I've done before I go to take a hit.

Black ABV is close but I am talking about fire in the ELB with ash left over. When I pulled it out I could see the cherry inside the ELB burning and it was HOT as hell.

Yeah I'm talking about combustion events in mine too. What I meant to say is not that the ABV was black but the ELB. The ABV on the inside would combust and leave the ELB a black charry mess.

Are you sure your EVO isn't defective? IMO (and i've only used 2 different EVO's but multiple Clouds) you shouldn't be having those events really at all even at full temp, as attested to by T-dub. Might not hurt to send yours in.

I'd hope not! It honestly might be though seeing as my evo's temperature doesn't seem to be the status quo compared to everyone else, but at the same time if the only problem is that the temperature on mine runs a little hotter than normal I really don't see a huge enough issue to send it in personally. Now on the other hand if they could make the dial knob a little heavier for me so I'm not always accidentally turning it to 11 then I'd send it in within a heartbeat!

I had the same thing happen - i had left evo on max temp after burning my nail clean at the end of a session , turned it on next morning and unknowingly preheated it to max temp , then stuffed an elb half full of kief in to warm ... 1st hit was my first combustion in 3 years , pulled elb out and it had a cherry still glowing .

my evo is about 18 months old , never serviced ,and i usually run it at 11 to 12:30 with no problems at all , but it WILL fry down there at 5:00

Debating whether or not to get one from the "Seconds." Do I need more glass? No. Do I need to spend $200+? ($250 - 20%) No. Am I a bit obsessive? Yes.

When i get some time i want to make a new enclosure and sort out the wire situation!
Fully customized Cloud++! One day when i get time...

For now this beast works like a BomB!

I wonder if any glass maker would be able to make similar bamboo tubes to the Cloud?
Possibly with a slightly thicker glass section where the heater will sit for more heat retention
This may be an interesting project, especially since i have 4 spare heaters and the RDK controller is quite affordable as well!

As for an enclosure, I'm not familiar with the Cloud, but it looks like the outside black enclosure part sits around the silver part like a sleeve. If this is correct, wouldn't it be possible to get a woodworker to put something together that would incorporate the Cloud & the new control in one luxurious log?
