I sent stems to all the testers with a couple low profile cup screens so they can give us some feedback.
I used 1/2" diameter 60 mesh SS screen, this gives about a 1/16 lip around the perimeter of the screen.
Battery life is not as good with the screens, maybe 20% less - that's a guess. Very hard to combust with the top screen. Extraction efficiency is excellent, couple of stirs does wonders. The stem can be emptied and then the herb sucked up and the top screen put back.
After a few days you can push the bottom screen out and put the top screen in the bottom. This does keep the screen clean.
@Alan has flat screens which offer less mass.

Do you think a ceramic joint could provide the same friction as ground glass? We need some friction otherwise the "lipstick incidents" would be too frequent, seeing how much they already are with our GonGs.

I would love to find such an alternative though, don't get me wrong!

The picture is the Divine Tribe water-tool attachment accessory, it replaces the cap/mouthpiece of the ceramic donut atomizer. I don't think it's long enough for the MistTouch, but maybe Dave could contact DT to see where he sourced them (or maybe custom ordered, as he's working with some Chinese factory if I'm correct)

But if that part could be ready-made and outsourced for cheap, it would be maybe much easier to service, even for the end-user.
I have seen other ceramic connectors with the 'ground glass' finish also. I think porcelain.
Yes it would be good to know where to get replacement joints.

@KeroZen, @Vape Dr. uses o rings on the stem to hold it in place and @Alan uses a piece of silicone tubing. For the Touch it is apparently easy to find o rings or silicone tubing that fit in the upper hole in the wood (the hole is 5/8" diameter) and secure the stem.
As far as changing the female joint in the Touch, I don't see that happening. Not even a consideration. Just don't drop it.
RBT and I talked about a safety stem that would break before the heater but I'm not sure I'm ready to go there at this point.

The new screens look good Dave. The press is a great way to make them. Glad you are enjoying the two screen method.

Here is my Touch stem with a silicone sleeve on the mouthpiece end which allows it to fit snugly into the 5/8" hole in the wood. My 8.5mm basket screens fit nicely into the mouthpiece tube for smaller micro doses. The GonG end can then be used as a mouthpiece or for water filtration. It is like having two stems in one.

I received my Mvt yesterday , charged up my Samsung 25r and put it to the test . 1st session was without the bottom screen. Very smooth and tasty rips with a fully charged battery and 10second button hold , when I hit 10 seconds and saw the coil start to glow I released and started with a medium draw. This provided nice results but I did have a bit of a hot spot in the center of my flowers after the session , 2nd session no bottom screen I decided to test what it can do and combusted with a 10-12 second hold and a bit over a medium draw. Quickly cleaned everything up , soak in ISO and back to my 3rd session using the bottom screen which provided better results but uneven browning as I did not stir and I am not a fan of having to stir . I did notice as your battery drains you are required to hold the button longer . I did like using the bottom screen as it keeps things cleaner and is definitely harder to combust like some stated. Loving the taste so far and today I got some Samsung 30q's to test with . The wood & carving is really nice & very well crafted , it's been awhile since I used a ondemand vape . Always great to be able to take a hit when you want without having to wait .

I received my stem and screens today. Already have a bowl packed and am very happy with the results. Taste is phenomenal and it seems to heat the herbs more evenly.

All three of you aren't helping.... :bang:

I'm trying to wait patiently but the more I read this thread, the more that becomes difficult. @Alan strong possibility I will be sending you a message for some wood stems in the future.

@mistvaporizer please keep them coming!

@Crussell27 and @Justpassedu how much are you filling per stem? I like microdosing and if the stems work with 0.05g or even less it could take the place of the OG brick for my lunch break, or at the very least share time.

I never really measure but I have been filling my stems full and averaging 5-10 hits per load but I am very new to this vape and really need some more time with it.

Who am I kidding. It's more like  or :mmmm:

Can't wait to join the party

I don't make posts like this too often, I have been very busy lately and I just haven't really had time to just post about a random day or session but I have to say I am in love with on demand convection vapes right now and especially in love with the mist vape touch.

I have more than a couple on demand devices and I keep them all packed, most of the time at least, I feel like keeping an on demand device packed is a good way to get the most of it, like getting medicated in the shortest amount of time possible is important to me so I keep devices like this packed. Anyways today was not a fun day for me, I ended up sitting in the emergency room for like 5 hours earlier, everyone is ok so thank god for that.

I just came home, I hadn't vaped all day, went to grab my elevape and it flashes out of battery as I draw, my Milaana didn't have a battery in it, as it usually doesn't and all 4 of my 18650s I use were basically out of battery.. at this point I'm getting pissed and I'm about to just wait for a desktop to heat up and then I remember..

Oh my gosh! I keep a battery in my MVT because the switch on the bottom!! :) Sure enough there's a battery in there and I think, is this one dead too? It's been there for 2 days so maybe? I didn't even check, just took that stem of headband to my face and I go to check the battery, it's at 4.04!! Like I didn't even put it on a charger lol the touch is still good to go and I'm about to grind up some underdog OG to reward myself for this shitty day lol.

Long story short the Touch came trough today when other vapes I rely on didn't, this thing is so reliable, easy, portable and also effective! I barely vaped even .1 actually it was forsure less.. and I'm good.. like super efficiency with this bad boy.

Now I'm baked and in a much better mood, just had to share that story because it's kinda funny when you think about it. The reason I keep a bttery in my touch is because of the newly implemented switch on the bottom, I already loved this idea but after a real life situation i really do appreciate how good of an idea it was and also I appreciate the fact that @mistvaporizer implemented the idea into the new design. This beautiful wooden vape has an even closer place in my heart now :)

I hope everyone had a better day than me and I also hope you are all enjoying the Touch as much as I am ;)

Peace FC :peace:
Stay vaped :leaf:

@Bandoo : could you please try to find back some links and PM them to me or post them here?

Sorry I meant that I have seen porcelain laboratory equipment like mortar and pestles that had a 'ground glass' finish either in the cup part or the bottom.

Like I mentioned before, if someone was going to do it they would have to get like the Chinese to make a run of them, to their design, if the volume of sales would justify it.

Since we were all giving our ideas here about what would make these even better, that was just my idea based on my fractured joint and being on the other side of the world from the manufacturer.

Glass joint is great! I was also just saying it would be nice to be able to replace it easily if needed by someone who is pretty handy so it would not have to go away for a month back and forth or have to buy a second just in case.

I myself can fix them myself as long as the parts were available. I have a glass joint for my vape on the way from the co. then I will fix my own - I hope :)

ymmv..

I didn't get what did you mean about them using o-rings or silicone? To hold the female connector instead of epoxy, or the stem or what?
I like glass that's why I buy these!! :)
Thanks.

In fact you piqued my curiosity with your remark and I embarked into a supplier search the other day. What I found is that there are some mentions of standard taper ceramic joints but I couldn't find any unfortunately.

On the other hand I found that they also exist and are more common when made of quartz instead of borosilicate (I easily found some alibaba suppliers for that) and apparently also made of 303 stainless steel.

I don't know what the former would offer: quartz is pricier and its main interest, from what I gathered, is to withstand higher temperatures and extremely corrosive or redox environments, none of which really concerns us, as we are well within the Pyrex specifications. It's also unclear if it's any stronger (in fact it might even break more easily?)

The latter on the other hand could be interesting for longevity, but with such a high thermal conductivity coefficient, steel is a rather poor choice as it would rob a lot of energy from the system. Heat that would be better off blasting our load than just warming the joint. This heat would in turn transfer to the next layer and I think at the end of a session the joint would be burning hot to the touch.

I didn't spend hours searching in the end, so maybe there are ceramic ground joints around. For now our best bet would be to find a Chinese factory specializing in lab glass and also working with ceramics. In most cases they are more than happy to take custom orders and the MOQ is not necessarily high. So we could have ceramic joints with a standard taper maybe. But would they offer enough friction, I don't know? :sherlock:

In the end, I thought that it would be quite a nightmare to ensure the ceramic they supply is completely safe and "food grade", as we would have practically no way to verify what they put inside and we would have to trust a foreign supplier we'll never meet in person... So I closed all my browser tabs at once and moved to something else!

PS: that being said, the Divine Tribe guy already did this sourcing job and the DT donuts are custom made by a Chinese factory, in white or black ceramic...

@Bandoo look at Alan's post. That silicone tubing fits into the wood hole in the Touch and holds the stem in place. @Vape Dr. did a similar thing with o rings. He put the o ring just above the ground glass portion of the stem and they fit into the hole in the wood just above the heater. This holds the stem secure. Maybe he can repost the pic or point us to it.

@Vape Dr. , are the black rings necessary on all stems.

If there is a 14mm ground glass female connection and a 14mm male stem, why would the rings be necessary?

Where are they available?

Hope the Doc won't mind if I chime in @5:30 in the morn, the O-rings help snug up a loose stem,
and restrict airflow from a slightly loose stem, I believe; they can be bought at a Rocky's, or any hardware store.
