Enail controller ?'s(design,quality,function,etc..)

Hello fellow FC/Dabbers members have some questions on different E-nail controllers. I am in the market for my first enail controller and I'm having trouble finding out some of the questions I'm looking to get answered on purchasing a controller and coils, I already know the nail is the most important factor in a enail set up and I have the d-nail slim series already with a sic carb halo ( purchased a high 5 and the coil was messed up along with the unit and was lucky enough after weeks of inquiries and got a refund, kept the nail tho).

I have a decent budget for the controller and coils. Just don't understand the different construction, features, ease of use, steady temp,

So my questions come into play with the controller design, functions, quality, compatibility of coil with halo nail and liger banger ( the fitment or coil), I would like to just switch out coils and have 2 different set ups

Also the difference in designs, fuses, ssr?, features

If anyone can point me in the right way to understand what to look for and what controller would be he best for the dnail and liger set ups

Thanks in advance sorry for the long post just confused and not trying to ge ripped off

Personally, as a first (and perhaps last) controller/coil I would strongly recommend the Auber RDK-200 or RDK-300. They are from an American instrument company in GA (they may be made elsewhere...dunno...but these guys are local, responsive, and actually appear to be a tech company with associated documentation, etc and not just a stoner supply company). Their controllers are spot on.

If you want to spend a LOT more for a first enail, look at D-nail and Errlectric but I don't believe you will find any enhancements in this units over the Auber that you would really find needed or useful.

Just IMO.

that's what I was looking at I have found that the arber seems to be a great controller very popular and recommended and for the price I cannot pass it up for an option my main concern is will the coils fit the slim series halo and linger banger i own the halo sic carb and will the flat coil that arber has fit the dnail halo and same with the linger i plan on getting?same with 20mm coil too

i have used errletric great controller shitty nails and have used a dnail a few times and no considerable differences from other i have used except for some junk chinese ones where temps were off 45-50*f just sitting there (chinese were friends and really dissaponted with them) errletric i got to use while a friend was on vaca was great just hate the nail options and no experience with rewiring

i know i want a quality unit since i will be using all-day and is the warranty with the controllers a gimmick? or do they stand by their products

also which arber is the better unit?

I have no idea about warranty response as mine has never needed any service.

As for coil fitting, I'm assuming that we are talking circular and not flat coils? If so, they are all slightly different in fit and a little gentle work with pliers and screwdriver to spread the coils and make it fit tight against your nail is very easy to do. Really, no matter whose coils you use, I think you need to be willing to do this as a good tight fit is essential to good heat transfer.

Cheers

No as for he coil I am talking about the flat coil and I know the circlular 16/20mm are going to be needed to be tweaked for proper transfer

The coil I am wondering about it the flat coil made by auber. I have a D-nail sic halo dish and slim series nail already and I trying to find out if the auber flat coil will fit prorperly on the dnail halo sic dish with out the need for alteration ?

@Baron23 hey Thanks for the info got myslef the Rdk-300 and I have a few questions I saw in one posts in a different thread you said you had you auber +-1 degree just wondering what coil you were using and nail also what settings got you to that variance?
Mine has been dropping 20-25 degrees every hit large or small and I have tried looking more setting info up but can't find exact numbers I contacted auber today and they told me to adujust the p value from 125 to 100 and nothing called back and told me to drop it to 70 and thats where I'm at now but I'm still getting a 12-15 degree drop every hit but it does rise back up quickly and goes back to stable quicker
Any other settings you might be able to help me out with? would love to get it as stable as yours

Your man for enail controller settings is @mutten840. He seems to really know his stuff.

Tell the truth, I don't know what temp drop I get when I dab...I know its not 20-25 degrees but I will check tonight. The +/-1 is the general variance (well, stability really) at steady state (at set point and heat soaked).

I use a Liger v2.0 20mm banger with SiC insert. I use an Auber 20mm coil (not flat) and I let it heat soak and then dab away. It works wonderfully.

Sorry I can't help you more on settings.

Ok I'm kinda new to this forum thing so I'm un sure how to contact someone on here besides the @ to get there attention and I have contacted auber again and I have my "p" rating down to 68 now and I have been getting 12 degree drops and 15 with larger hits but it will come up to temp quicker. I'm still unsure if this temp droppage normal or should the swing be with in a few degrees?

I have been very interested in the liger and very impressed just have some questions in reguard to the different sizes and what one works best for what type of hit and also what carb cap is the best the hurricane looks like it sits on there but the storm cell looks like you have to hold it there I don't mind getting a new coil but I would like to stay with the flat if it works better

@YabbaDABBAdo - I just talked to @mutten840 and his first thought was that perhaps your coil is not well fitted to your nail.

Please, are you using a flat coil or a helical coil? And what kind of nail are you using?

It is important that your coil fit tightly against the nail all the way around to support good conductive transfer of heat. Mutten has found that if you have gaps in there...basically not tight fitting all around...you can get this type of behavior.

If you have a helical coil, the fact is that although they say 20mm they are not precision fitted to any given nail. To fit it, gently use a flat head screw driver to ensure your coils are spread evenly top to bottom of your nail and some pliers to ensure that the coil fits tightly against your nail. GENTLE is the word here. I have fitted coils and have not yet ever broken one in the process, but please don't hold me responsible. But many here will attest to the importance of a good solid mechanical fit of coil to nail and have all fitted their coils.

If you have a flat coil, well...that's out of my experience but it also needs to tightly to the nail surface to ensure good and even transfer of heat.

If your coil is not tight, when you do tighten it, if it fixes your issue you may want to try walking your P value back up toward default and see if it still performs well for you.

I hope this helps.

Ok here's my setup
Rdk-300 with supplied flat coil from auber purchased from them ( also when I ordered the unit I had specified to calibrate he settings for the flat coil from them )

Nail- D-nail SiC halo dish with slim series
assembly order- dish>heater>washer>heatsink>retainingnut>base
I wasn't sure how tight to tighten the dish to the heater because I know when heated things expand and wasn't sure if it could break
How tight should it be on there? I tightened mine now till the coil wouldn't slid around

I do not own any other coils yet and will only purchase from auber. if I do

Ok, flat coil with D-nail halo.

@herbivore21 seems to have some expertise with D-nails, perhaps he can help wrt to how to tighten/how tight to get it. Hopefully he will see his tag and reply.

Sorry, but yes....even with flat coil there must be very good contact between the nail surface and the coil for good stable operation and I would continue to look at coil fit.

There are also others on the board with a lot of d-nail experience. Sadly, I'm not one of them.

All good thanks I will hope to here from him to see if he can help me out I have seen a few posts by him on other pages . also just want to give a big thanks to all you, you all have been very helpful and knowledgeable to someone trying to get problem solved

So I contacted auber again and they told me to adjust the PSL setting under access code 155 from 1.00 to 1.13 for the flat coil and to keep the p rating under access code 166 to 70ish or where I see a more stable temp variation and a quicker response but do not go too much lower. And I am getting a better result I'm at 665-680 degrees on SiC dish and I am now a a drop of 10 degrees and an over shoot or 3* and about a 8 second heat up time after the drop of 10* which isn't bad imo but...

What's everyone's drop in temperature? And what settings did you use to get it a very low fluctuation?

So my drop is ~10 degrees on agverage hits and then heats back up in 8 seconds, with a ~3 degree overshoot. The settings I am using is- under access code 155 a psl rating to 1.13 and under access code 166 P value to 70-75, I value 60, D value 10 and OTH value to 100. Hope that helps anyone having the same issue and if anyone has a better setting to try and repot back to see if it works

Another factor in temperature drop auber said is since the material is at room temperature there will alway be a drop because you placing a low temperature material on to the flat surface. I kinda get the point of that. Anyone else concur on this?

And if anyone does know what's is your temp drop when using the same setup or similar?

Thanks hope this helps

Forgot to mention, I did check last night and I get about a 10 degree drop upon dabbing and a 3 degree or so overshoot as attempts to regain the temp set point.

I have considered futzing with the parameter values and decided that this variance upon dab doesn't really result in any adverse impact that I can tell. That, and I once went through a very frustrating episode once trying to set up parameters and get stable operation on an Omron PID controlled box (it was WAY worse that what we are talking about here) and Just haven't yet felt like digging into the guts of the Auber....but I might at some point.

As far as temp drop from cold dab on hot surface...well, sure....that and the evaporative cooling of the change of state of the dab (solid to gas, yeah) and the cooling effect of your indrawn breath and yes, I would definitely expect to see a temp drop.

Cheers

Cool man I really appreciate the help and with the setting adjustments I have configured my unit to I have your results pretty much, now when I place a dab on there and let it melt around the dish the temp stays at a constient setting for the dab to fully melt then as I pull depending on how big a hit I take it drops slowly 8-10* then almost instantly climbes back up to set temp and then a +3* and back to set . Super pleased with the results and thanks for the help it's been great

Now just for my state to make it available for patients lol such a slow process where I live been going through my supply much faster now since I picked up this unit but loving every hit

I'm a Maryland boy too!

And yes, Maryland has made a complete hash out of implementing our MMJ program that was passed by law almost 4 years ago!!

Don't get me started, I have posted about Maryland's gross incompetence on this program extensively...well, to the point that I think folks are tired of reading it! LOL

They still have no schedule posted other than that the Patient Registry will open in first qtr 2017. If it does, this will be the first time they have hit a projected date in the entire history of the program.

Glad your enail is now working well....go forth and vape, young man. Go forth and vape! haha

Hell yea man... and I'm with you completely they passed medical and all laws have been getting jerked around with regulations and a bunch of malarkey and not to mention all people with the licenses and permits That have been issued and then banned or more stipulateions but they are also trying to make all seeds classified illegal because they were brought into the state when its illegal to transfer state to state. It's just sad how long it's taking for us when we have been green lit for years and they just keep give us blue balls or rather green balls.

Thanks again and see ya around on here I have seen you in the hex-nail I'm following their page and very very interested and impressed so far. I almost purchased it over the auber but I wanted to wait till they have some more reviews on it. And since I am leaning towards getting a 20mm liger I might just get the hex for it so I can have 2 set ups and be less of a hassle

Hey brother - in all states with legal MMJ, seeds (or cuttings for clones) are the not talked about little secret because, since they were not in the state to begin with, they needed to come across some state line from their origina and that falls under Federal law. This is true for all states but it tacitly ignored (well, up to now it has been).

Yes, I like what Hex Nail is doing and I really like the way these ladies are communicating. Very refreshing.

But, I don't thing I would recommend one for a first enail controller ever. They are just shipping their first units and while the testing and burn in that they described is terrific, I would expect there to be some growing pains. I think you did right to start with the tried, true, and well supported Auber to start.

I think there may well be a hex nail in my future also, but again I will give them a bit of time and see how first shipments and use of same goes.

Cheers

Just sucks they bring it up here just as we were about to be getting everything started up going for medical, now it just pushes back the date till we can get over this hump and I'm sure more will come.

That's the only reason I didn't go with the hex in the first place, tho i have a feeling they hit the "nail" on the head with this unit. I am always one to want to hear reviews and maybe even see it in person before I buy if it's high quality. And since they are new I'm sure there will be hick ups,but from everything I have read they seem to be real stand up gals/guys. So I can't wait to hear some reviews and what setups seem to be the best and if any newer technology is added in later versions. I'm in the same boat your in see how things play out

I don't believe that seed/cutting stock is a delaying issue at all. As I said, its just been tacitly ignored in other states that started an MMJ program.

I worry about further delays from the cultivators who were bumped off the list for geo diversity (FFS :bang:) suing the state and the lovely Maryland Black Legislative Caucus who had demanded that the entire program be scrapped and started over again so that they can get a race based preference for licenses (and that race would be black insofar as I can tell, Del Cheryl Mills doesn't give a shit about getting license for latinos or asians in her district, yeah?).

Luckily it looks like nobody is issuing any orders restraining the program until the cultivator suits are over and it also appears that nobody is willing to join Mills in rolling patients under the bus yet again just for her race based set asides.

Don't worry so much about this stuff....if there are further delays, it will be due simply to the MD Government's gross incompetence! LOL

Very true my problem is I suffer from chronic back pain, hip and neck. I was in a nasty accident on my four wheeler ended up breaking my back and getting knocked out and was convulsing and ended up with a hypoxent event to my brain and now have brain dammage and some other mental issues. I am just soo fed up with percribed meds. I have cut back my dosage from recommended amount down to a third of what I'm prescribed and now I am tryign to get off completely but sometimes it's just too much to handle. So I'm just waiting to be able to get exactly what I need medical wise thought mmj and hopefully get off almost everything. And all my doctors approve of mmj and when legal to give me recommendations to see a specialist. So until that happens I will be spending way too much money and hoping I can get what I need when I need it and not get beat around the bush an nonsense to actually get my hands on it

@YabbaDABBAdo - wow, we have much in common and I understand completely. I'm a medical patient due to back injury, subsequent surgeries, and resulting chronic neuropathy for the last 8 years.

My Dr are willing to give me oxycodone, valium, robaxin, lyrica, neurontin, and that all time favorite zombie maker of a drug, Ambien.

I refuse to take this stuff as maintenance meds and only take the opioids and muscle relaxers when I absolutely have to.

Maryland's incompetence in standing up our MMJ program infuriates me and I have become a letter writer to our Governor, my state representatives, the the MMCC. It is, of course, a waste of my time but I feel the need to express myself to them on their job performance and believe I have a right as a MD citizen to do so.

So I have MJ for meds, but like yourself perhaps its get what you can, not get exactly what you need.

Hang in there, mate. 6-9 months from now we should be ok.

@Baron23 wow I'm sorry to hear, but we do have vey similar injuries and prescribed meds. The problem with my injury is I did not seek medical treatment when it happened, it was approximately 8 years ago too since my injury ( how ironic) but I was a dumb 20 year old and thought I could just push through everything. come to find out 4 years late after many odd occurrences with my body and pains got worse, and some black outs I had brain dammage and a broken L5 S1 and multiple disk dammage I have been on every type of pain meds from fentinal to oxy, meathodon, perks, morphine you get the picture and all the muscle relaxers and anti anxiety and for some metal issues, along with sleep issues. I still have to take some of what I'm perscribed but only if I absolutely have to and nothing near to the amounts prescribed. If I turn into a zombie also.

Baron have you ever got anything but canned replies from them?

And my sympathies to you and Yabba for the pain you both suffer.

Hi @Silat , my friend. Ah, yes...it wasn't a form letter but I did receive replies from the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) and the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene but it was a bunch of empty platitudes and broken promises. E.g.

The Commission is aware that no updated timeline appears on its website.....sic. The timeline will now be updated to reflect the roll-out of the patient registry, as well s the anticipated date dates for all aspects of the medical cannabis program.

What a load of crap. Here is the link to the so called Program Timeline. You take a look and see if you would consider this a program schedule (sigh).

I'd like to see these arseholes actually have to work for a living some day. :bang::goon::rant:

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

They could have saved time and just had a page that said "NO" in a supersized font.
