whether its a waste or not, I think it's worth it cause it seems to get me more medicated with less, this way. I guess more medication per puff is better?

anyways, I think Storz and Bickel are right 3-5 seconds is best, no need to wait till you see vapor, cause then you have for sure missed some valuable terpenes. But if you just wait 3-5 seconds I think you'll have good results.
I don't think you really miss that much in terpenes but it depends how much you fill your valve though?

What I mean is I have intentionally just taken fresh herb and cranked it up to 425 and no bag waiting for it to stop producing vapor and it takes quite awhile for that to happen. Do it for 25 seconds; remove stir and then continue ..

So the 1 or 2 seconds for you to attach the bag as the vapor is escaping; well your breathing that in also. Sure it's not direct into your lungs unless you stand over it breathing in

feel free?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone uses their volcano in colder temperatures, let's say 0 to -5 Celsius.

My concern is whether the ceramic heating element can crack at colder temperatures, especially if the vape is left out to cool down for a few minutes. I'm aware that when the volcano heats up and cools down it periodically makes a click type sound, and for some reason hearing this today after my session while still outdoors caused me some concern and made me start wondering.

Hoping someone might have information on this, and on ceramic heating elements at cold temperatures in general. Obviously I know this isn't a great idea, and I most likely will never do it again, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me on this!

I had my Volcano in 8-10 Celsius over night (under an open-air tent) four or five times this year over the course of a single week and it was fine.

The heater in Volcano is aluminium, not ceramic, so it would probably have no trouble with temperatures or cracking etc.
Maybe you could turn up the temperature a few degrees to compensate but it probably doesn't make much difference with a Volcano.
Although seeing another bag fill desktop (HA) that actually measures the intake air temperature and compensates itself got me thinking a little!
I have never heard much or any creaking from my unit on or off. I was surprised about this as most heat appliances do, maybe older or classic models do it more.

Also wanted to add that Namaste seem legitimate enough and people on this site, myself included, have bought genuine units without issue and would again. Maybe one or two of the people has some past somewhere but that business seems to operate well?
If you were in that area Vaposhop could also take care of you with Euros, or Storz themselves sell to the public with free EU delivery on orders over €20, but it looks like @DrFitzgerald got taken care of.

As for the preheating I do no more than 3 seconds with herb at 192 celcius, but the time could be increased if you add a cold steel liquid pad, or the time reduced, even eliminated if you were using an oil on cotton at high temperatures.
The process appears IMO to introduce some additional aroma to the air, so if this was unwanted at any stage it could be minimized or avoided by having the balloon on from the start, with the trade off being possible slightly wispier vapor, but no losses of terpenes and lower temperature tastes that are released in the first few seconds of a cycle.

DMT with vaporizer? is that a thing?
There are a ton of opinions about it, ranging from "it's a waste" to "best ever" - some people use a kiln-style atomizer on a box mod, others use a liquid pad in a Crafty or similar vape. The Volcano + balloon seems to get very good reviews and I like that it doesn't seem to require dedicating a vaporizer to it (using separate loading chambers and bags.

One discussion of the Volcano method - http://reset.me/personal-story/guide-ideal-dmt-experience/

I'm intrigued because I just can't get comfortable with anything involving glass or flame going solo.

Just wondering if there's any consensus on preheating? Instructions supplied with volcano seem to suggest preheating material in chamber with fan on for five seconds before attaching bag - is this the best way?

I let mine run with no bag until I see vapor and immediately clip it on. By the way the Volcano uses an air pump, not a fan, there's a huge difference (a pump can provide more pressure and consistent flow).

Another thing I do when the bag is full is remove the filling chamber and bag from the Volcano before I turn off the pump to ensure no vapor back flows into the Volcano, as it would slowly dirty the insides over time and may not be cleanable.

I had something funny happen for the first time with my Volcano Digit, I pressed and held the up button to go 10 degrees up and it fell asleep while I was holding the button down. Obviously it resets the 30 minute sleep timer when you release the button and not when you press it in, meaning it can fall asleep while you're holding the up or down button, though extremely unlikely as you need to press the button at 29:59 of inactivity and hold it in for at least one second.

Anyone else have this unlikely situation happen with their digit? I've had it almost one year and it happened for the first time a few days ago, and I'm sure it will happen again.

I fine grind the herb.
Fill the chamber with 100 mg herbs.
I turn on the air.
I reach for the bag.
Empty the bag of any air or old vapor.
Then I hold the bag over the valve. (5 seconds or less). (My Volcano runs slow)
(I have a strong light shining on the valve so I can see vapor)
Once vapor begins to show I mount the balloon on the valve.

I almost never change temps.
I usually only get two bags from a load.
I usually put in between 100 and 125 milligrams of herb.

Thanks for the preheating advice.

Loving the Volcano. Always getting a good 3 bags out of the chamber, although as I only take cannabis once a week I'm pretty generous with the amount that I put in as I want to make it count. ;) Haven't had any desire to go back to joints and I never take bongs or pipes as it's near impossible to hold as an asthmatic - I've not had any urge to reach for the salbutamol during a Volcano session yet however!

Have been saving the remains and grinding them to a very fine powder using the Storz and Bickel grinder (my spare), I reckon there's still a bit of life in them so now I've got about a gram of already vaped stuff I'm going to give it a shot at a high temperature next time.

One thing I've noticed is that the control light tends to go back on after 15 - 20 seconds when filling a bag - still getting excellent results but hoping this isn't indicative of a possible fault. Is that normal for a Volcano?

Since you are an asthmatic, I highly recommend that you use just enough herb to get the needed vapor. you may find that LESS is much better on the lungs.

When I use as little 150mg of herb the vapor becomes more harsh than I desire or can tolerate. the very simple solution to this problem for me is to use as little as possible. thats about 100-125 milligram of well ground herbs. I have my heater set to 6-6.5. that never changes.
There are plenty of people who FILL the Volcano chamber. IMHO thats crazy and a waste. the volcano is very efficient. You do not need a balloon full milk thick vapor to medicate. Far from it.

The point here is this. if you have less herb in the chamber you will still be able to get great effect, flavor and smoothness of Vapor. you should be able to get 2 bags or more... or less, depending totally on the amount of THC your herbs contain. 20%thc + herbs will yield more bags of vapor than low grade 5-10%thc.

A buddy who has sensitive lungs (really really sensitive asthmatic) he loves OG. It used to be hard on him when he was smoking the herbs. Vaporizing has given him a new lease on medicating without killing himself in the process.

What you might find if you add too much powder abv, or have the heat too high. It can induce a dry irritation/ cough that might catch out the most hardy operators!
Amazing looking clouds, but heavy if handled wrong.
Wind back the amounts to lessen irritation, or you could look into moistening the vapor somehow.
Also if you don't want brown abv dust in your valve top, or bag, you could use the liquid pad on top, or cotton.

I did wonder this about some vapes, and some vapes it makes it obvious that it waits till you've stopped pressing to process info or perform a task.
One thing I noticed about Digit, is how it blinks after you set the temp. as if to confirm your input.
Well before I turn off my unit, I wind it back to my start temp and used to wait a moment until it blinked to accept and log my setting before switching off.
Well, I found you don't have to wait till it blinks, just set, turn right off and it remembers.

I also noticed the blink after adjusting the temp, by the way what software version is on your Volcano and when did you buy it? I bought mine about a year ago and have version 1.16 (you see it for a second or so after plugging it in, at least with version 1.16).

I actually always leave my temp setting as is before turning it off, because sometimes I stop vaping when there's some left, so if I turn on the Volcano and see it's not at my ending temperature, I know there's some left and continue from where I left off.

By the way does anyone else's Volcano have "eruptions"? Often on the table all around my Volcano there will be abv dust. It's kind of annoying having to clean the abv eruptions around my Volcano almost daily, but I suspect it's because I'm continuing to use my screens well past the time they should have been replaced, right?

Do others have these "eruptions" from their Volcano and how often do you change the screens? Has anyone tried the generic Volcano screens for solid valve I've seen on eBay? I find the genuine screens expensive and it bothers me they come with as many bottom screens which last much longer, they should be sold seperately.

Man, I really want to grab a volcano to round off my vape collection. I've been eyeing it for years. I'm just hesitant because I've never once used a volcano or even any sort of bag vape for that matter and with such a high price tag I just want Be sure it's for me!!

I bought my Volcano Digit used on Craigslist for a big camping trip with like 40 people and it was worth every penny. It is the KING of party vapes. I think there are better vapes if it's just you by yourself though.

Nope, not seen anything like that. I presume you run the fan through the chamber for a few seconds before putting the bag on and that's where your eruptions are coming from? If so, it sounds like you are on the right path looking at the top screen in the chamber.

Otherwise, I would look to the air path and see if you have accumulated dust and herb leavings in there that are being blown out and check the air filter in the bottom.

Cheers

Eruptions occur when the chamber gets loose... be sure it is screwed together firmly and that you do not twist to left when pulling bag off chamber.
My experience has been that the generic screens on ebay are too wide of a gauge and allow particles through.

I felt the same way. I started on the other end of vapes and have had nearly everything but a Volcano, so I took the plunge last year. I don't regret it one bit and it has a regular place in my rotation. There's a reason why it is loved and revered.

I would just like to say that when loading the chamber (og solid valve) I prefer to use .1 Mg at high temps (417f) for single bag,

Or use .3 at lower temps for multiple tasty bags keeping it at 363 (5.5 classic volcano) is very relaxing as I do not cough as often.

When using the lazy bags I tended to use way more than I could even finish, optimal for guest.

The volcano is great, very reliable; love it; but I think if I had to buy today it would be hard to not consider Herbalizer. Heats up in a few seconds, and the ability to direct draw via glass mouthpiece is very appealing to me... Never used one so just my thoughts. Sometimes I don't want a whole bag, just a pull; glass straw or steamroller seems perfect for that, quick pull and put it away. The volcano is not great for that last minute draw before you leave type of thing.

I don't know if you can keep the volcano on 24/7 but that would be ideal. It's why I got my Underdog so I could have an on-demand vape that was always-on with very little power. Getting a new core replaced for 25$ is likely cheaper than what S&B would charge to replace the heater but I've kept mine on for 2-3hours at a time... for years and years

You can do half bags or put less herb in the chamber so you make lighter bags and easier to chainvape.

The possibility's of how you use your volcano are limited by your imagination. I use Concentrates (liquid pad) (BHO, CO2)... Bubble Hash (6-star and 5-star) using the liquid pad just fine. Herb or Kief only; it works... i'm sure it works for other forms of Aromatherapy as well as you can just not attach a bag and scent your room.
