The HI

IMO the glass is for the connoisseur who's looking for a flavor chaser and sips their hits. The standard is for the cloud chaser heavy hitters who are looking to rip their faces off trying to hit it.

Just my opinion.

Damn @Alan im loving the inovation. Once these roll out will is be like the custom hi list with the long wait or like the bamboo and able to get it out reasonably faster?

Thanks for your opinion Nick, a connaisseur would then know how to get the same affects from a glas core I presume? I started vaporizing for better taste, health and efficiency, not necessarily cloud chasing.

It seems the MiHI or MiLog needs to be crafted / turned like a HI Log or Toasty Top therfor probably an option when our turn comes. For the Bamboo HI, the bamboo is already a cylinder shape therfor needs less woodwork. I do want a Top for its originality , wanted a herb jar too if possible but now with the MiHI on horizon, hmmm ...

For best results you will find better to use more of a load with the glass-core. Loading double or more of a micro dose isn't much anyway ...
You can achieve good taste with SS and micro-dose but it will be a "fast" rip and don't sleep on it or it will be to massive and cover the taste.
While with the glasscore it's a whole different game : even if you crank up the voltage, the heat won't rise like with SS. Let's imagine the temperature is more stable through the hit, and so if you vape more material at a consistent t° = more taste. Loading not enough material will give you whispy or no-visible-vapor hits. Of course you can play with distance etc..
I would advice anyone to get a SS as a first log as that's what they are made for and move to glass-core when they want something different. Playing with different stem-wand-screens configuration in SS-core mode will also enable you to get to the tasty lands.

Amazing @Alan ! I'm still thinking about a bambooHI but it's not the time yet .. And seeing the news here, it seems I probably better have to save for a collective order ...

Happy roastin' year one & all !

how durable is the glass core? I do like sipping, but not at the expensive of something that a drunken friend could break

Sorry I have a few questions I am going to sell my HI and the potential buyer asked me these questions... maybe someone could help answering them:

"1.) I've read that the HI is 12 V and probably the safest log vaporizer to leave plugged into a regular receptacle/outlet, but with the vvps you have would it be safe to have both kept on/plugged in for long periods of time due to the additional energy being consumed from the vvps?

2.) Also, with the HI there's a lifetime warranty, if I were to purchase this second hand from you would I still be covered not being the original purchaser?( @Alan )

3.) Would you prefer the HI over an enano for a first time log vape? "

thank you!

I wouldn't worry about extra energy for a VVPS, it's minimal. More importantly, if you're the type to run for 24/7 and you use a VVPS, it's good to turn the voltage down some while not in use to save power. That way you have a nice balance of quick heat up time and low energy consumption.

I went with the HI over the E-nano for a bunch of reasons. You can find a bunch of threads in ask FC comparing them but for me it was a clear choice, and I did a ton of research. 12v means more versatility and the ability to use it with a battery, more compatibility with accessories from other logs, ability for a digital VVPS which is a lot more precise than the kind of dial that comes with the enano, etc, etc.

There's also the part about the HI being handcrafted while the enano is CNC machined. Neither matters in a practical sense but you get more of a sense that the HI is a work of art while the E-nano is a product.

BAM!!!BOO! HI(GH)!!!!

YES! My Bamboo HI Glass Heater came in yesterday in time for this aspiring jedhi to start learning the force!

http://imgur.com/8673odC

Indeed , this is my first Log vape, therfor I will keep my thoughts short and leave any in depth "how it works & performs" to the more experience users on this forum, i will comment on my first experiences with it as I now see & understand the silly questions and wonders I had prior to receive it and loading it up !

This vape works and works good!!!
I will admit I went with the glass cover heater over the stainless steel mainly due to the price difference, glass being less, therfor more affordable to me. Other advantages of Glass Core were Taste , smoothness , Alan crafts it , about only log vape with a Glass Core.

Being a long time bong combuster and fairly new to vaping , I like a quick & strong hit . I knew/think the SS heater would outperform Glass on this "faster-darker" factor but still went ahead with Glass . (My toasty top will probably be SS although I am enjoying the HI (GH) I'm initialising myself with.

I do appreciate a cloud but I know (like to think i do) that vaping ain't all about clouds but more the quality of the vapor.

The Bamboo HI(GH) does give me great "clouds", straight out from the box , quite abit actually considering the small amount i load!! I was expecting the abv to be abit darker but my current flower is light colored to begin with and i must say, my abv looks like Gold! Its beautiful and seems to perfection really!!! Is it ?? Lol. I did manage to get a load darker last night , not sure what i did but i must a had it down path on that take and that regards. Ill keep practicing :)

The VVPS box is my personal mod to Alan's VVPS I did a sesh first then I rigged the vvps inside the box I had prepared while I was waiting on my package in the mail. I did so feeling it be a little safer being I'm the clumsy type it open aired might be risky around me. I did vent holes and Control acces hole in the clear cover so I can keep it closed. The vvps does t seem the heat up too much ..

I'm loving it!!! I want to thank , Alan, for his time & service and for being the vaporizer engineering genius and outstanding gentleman that he is. I am and feel privileged to own this even if it's just a junior log in a sense compared to a real log but I'll cherish it like a true, solid wood Log . The craftmanship on my Bamboo is great, top rim so smooth, bottom rim so elegantly crafted, corks heater & adaptor plug all sturdy and professionally fitted & looking.

I have not posted here about my HI because I felt humbled to have it... and after almost 2 years with limited vaporizers, it has been a blessing.
I am owner of a Zap/HI unit.. (ZapHIbrid if you will)
Alan managed to keep the original light and it functions, on this Old School Aromazap (Called MyrtleZap back then)
Here it is with an Alan Azalea Burl Roasting tube.
DSC05011.jpg

It has a natural knot in the wood which has been set free, so there is a hole under my thumb. I was not trying to hide it, this was a coincidence that it does not show here... it is part of the pieces appeal and beauty.
In this shot you can see the ZapHIbrid sit where a collection of Log Vapes once sat (and they should all be back soon, hopefully!) You can see the knot in this image, and a traditional nylon tube sits with the Azalea burl

I have been loving the unit and I am proud to be part of Team HI!

For real, that bamboo looks amazing.

I was going to keep my eye out for some blanks for when my name comes up but I really like how unique that one looks. May just opt for one of those when the time comes.

Vito's looks really nice too. I love the small natural defects (imperfections is actually a better word) on log vapes.

Edit: it's also nice to know that the glass core is cheaper, as this is what I was going to go with due to it being the only log vape where this is an option. I'm all for sipping over ripping with logs anyway

Thank you Diggy & Muunch! Yes it does look good & amazing . Totally worth it + !! Alan called it Black Bamboo or Black and Spotted Bamboo... I had no idea what it would look like but i wouldn't trade it.

I did a few more sessions on the weekend . amazing how well , smooth and tasty this glass core extracts! Full extraction too ! don't be scared like i was if reading slighty slower or lighter abv, it can actually be a good thing ! I've tried the abv in another vaporizer afterwards and the Bamboo HI had done a great job of extracting the goodies. Its like the core is dialed-in to acheive perfection .

I havent tried other log vapes therfor cant compare things like taste or level yet I suspect they'd extract that much more goodies or in such a pure way. one or two good "toke/hit" of this HI is more then enough reason for me to empty and park the combustion bong away for good :)

Well im no log expert but it seems like it can do both!!!! :) think you'd enjoy the glass core very much if all about sipping.

Its my first log , had it 3 days, I started using the double screen (flower inbetween) , placing screens different ways , playing with my vvps from 11v to 13v. Had great clouds sipping (still figuring that out, if short or fast if using a rythme or whatnot) but yeah always pretty much microdosing. And still got 4-6 clouds per load I'd say if not more.

But last night!! I was a little less shy with HI and used a single screen approach , Wow!!! One or 2 longg sips worked like a champ at extract my microdosish load ! thats as close as a one hitter I need one to be. I'm pulling out of a 4" tube , no water, it's smooth and tasteful and clouds reach the other side of the room :))

Taste at 11-11.5 is just yummy though

Am I happy with my choice? 420%

I'd like to thank Alan for my spotted bamboo hybrid HI aswell, she's beautiful and rips amazingly. This is also my first convection vape and when combined with a small water pipe it's as if the vapor never even seared my throat. But the stuff still hits it's amazing, second to edibles, for now....

Amazingly efficient (saves green) + student approved

Damn @Alan im loving the inovation. Once these roll out will is be like the custom hi list with the long wait or like the bamboo and able to get it out reasonably faster?

Thanks. It is a privelage to work with the high surface area heater technology from @RastaBuddhaTao to help create a plug-in version. My plan is to incorporate the HSA heater and glass assembly from RBT into a standard wooden HI body. When someones name comes up on the wait list, they will have the RBT heater as an option. The wait for a HI may be long, but there is a good chance that there will be more options available when ones name is reached. The wait is definitely worth it. If I can figure out a way to put the RBT heater into bamboo, there is a chance to get some without a wait list. Unfortunately, RBT will not be able to produce any plug-in versions until after the Zion has been completed. Maybe even some improved HSA heater tech by then. Exciting times ahead.

@Bvapst - Hope I have more options available when you are ready for an order. Happy roasting.

@JJ420 - Not wrong at all to be excited about it. The HSA heater tech is a great thing. It is even better with consistent voltage control. The voltage / temperature can be controlled by the air draw speed. The digital display provides visual feedback so the precise voltage is known at all times.

The glass heater cover is surprisingly durable. I have only had one person break a cover so far. They got a silicone Turbo Tube stuck onto it. The effort to remove the stuck tube caused the breakage. The new method of using cork rings to hold the glass tube makes it even more durable.

@btka - The lifetime warranty will transfer to the new owner. I will resolve issues caused by my design or construction. Good luck with the sale.

@Vitolo - Thanks for posting the photos. Glad you like it. I had received two old Zaps from a customer that could no longer use them due to charring. One of the Zaps was an old square pine model. Was able to turn out most of the charred wood which made the hole much bigger. Glad that I was able to retain the original finish and light. Hope that it will be surrounded by other Zaps very soon as it looks lonely. Happy roasting.

@Perplexpercolator - You are welcome. Glad to be saving you some money and providing smooth tasty hits.

@P.A.M. - Thanks so much for posting the photos and video. I could almost taste how good the hits were that you took. The smoothness allows for a full lung of vapor. The flavor of the flower can really be enjoyed.
Glad that you are pleased with your purchase. Very cool that you created your own voltage controller. A very personal touch. Hope I have some really cool things available when I arrive at your name on the list. Stay toasty.

^this. Nano performs slightly better because you can get the temps lower with it and still pack a major punch. A collection of HIsabers would be far more interesting than a collection of Nanos imo...

Btw to those wondering, I keep my glass core (and all logs for that matter) at temp and ready to go 24/7. I work until 2am, so when I get home I really don't want to wait even five minutes for any heat up. Never had any negative problems.

I'm currently enjoying my white teak glass core HI @ 11.15v

Not sure , I think JJ420 is referring to a Heat Island Log made of white teak with a glass core heat cover used with VVPS. (Log with glass heater instead of stainless steel)

Yes, and my apologies for not being more coherent in my last post.

You just reminded me.. I'd like to get a Kill-a-Watt meter for my vape station (top of my dresser, lol). Always curious as to what the Nano vs. HI draws from the wall?

Can anyone explain in a little more detail what the HSA (high surface area) heater core offers for the HI? How does it differ (pros and cons) with the other typical HI SS or glass cores?

Someone else on the forums recently mentioned a portable HI - does this have something to do with it?

Hey guys, first public post here on FC, long time combuster making the change to vaping for health and conservation of herb purposes... So I recently purchased a HI log vape, this will be my first time using a log style vape. I'm also going to be receiving a VVPS with the unit. I have a few questions if anyone could be of assistance that would be appreciated...

I was told that with a VVPS, only the voltage can be changed, and not the exact temperatures. On that note I do imagine that with a digital VVPS on the screen it would show the voltage and not the temperature setting...
I originally thought that a VVPS had something to do with or allowed for a change in vaping temperatures with log vapes, but if this is not the case, what is the main purpose for a VVPS? I also read that log vapes run at around 12 V, so that's pretty low...

If a VVPS does allow for changes in temperature when vaping, what would the best temperature setting be for using a HI? Through my research I've read that around 365 F is the most ideal temperature for vaping herb.

Is it recommended to run the unit 24/7 with the VVPS on as well, or shut the unit off say before bed? I've read mixed information about this with log vapes in general, some stating that it's harder on the heater core/element to turn it on and off allowing it to cool and reheating it daily, and that it's best to run the unit continuously; while some others stated that long periods of time with a log vape running is more damaging to the heater core/element. Just thought that perhaps someone with experience using a HI specifically or similar log vapes could provide an opinion on what would be recommended.

Thank you for the help everyone
