Safe? What is it that you are worrying may happen?

I'd be worried about inhaling potentially harmful dust... who knows what that shit does...
We still don't understand enough, just look at asbestos....
Ceramics contain heavy metals no???
Can our lungs remove these particles....???

I'm fussy maybe..... it's just I spent so long ruining my lungs, I'd like to look after them now....

Some people on this forum and others have expressed concerns that the ceramic in these units could be toxic if cracked. I haven't seen anything from DaVinci saying if they are or aren't.

All ceramic dust is toxic if inhaled. The biggest concern is the purity of the ceramic. I believe there is medals in the ceramic maybe alluminum, to make the ceramic have the same thermal properties of the wire inside. Every ceramic chamber vaporizer I have tried has always smelled industrial. I think they should encase ceramic is metal to seal it from the air path. At least on the so called premium units. Ceramic will form micro cracks from heating and cooling over time. I don't see how with time, you could avoid inhaling particules as it breaks down.

My oven is also cracked and I am not sure how many times I have used it since noticing the crack. Does anyone know if these are safe to use while cracked?

It must be karma, I read your post, then checked my bowl to notice it was also cracked ...

I might as well ask this here.
How many "Sessions" do you guys have with the herb in your vape?

Now I'm new to this Vape stuff and only came about the DaVinci IQ as a present for a friend but I'm planning on getting one myself after using and enjoying it, but I'm not sure if I'm exactly doing it right, since I often find myself powering back on the unit after a 10 minute session (That's how long they last before it shuts off, righit?) and going again.

Now while it's not combustion and all, I'm sure there has to be some sort of negative effect vaping weed that's already been cooked, right or does everyone just pack the device, use two or three sessions in one bowl and call it a day?

I'd assume it's the former since alot of people have been going on about how big a bowl the IQ has and how wonky the device can get if you don't pack it tight so I highly doubt anyone is putting in fresh bud EVERY 10 minutes...but I dunno. A bit of help/insight? Cheers.
I load fresh herbs for every session, just like I would for any other vape. A session can last 10 to 20 minutes. That's one thing I love about the IQ - you can get long sessions, and it delivers clouds throughout.

No signs of bowl cracking here.

Herb gardener...
Iv been lurking here since the iq was released...
I really liked it from the off....
I was gonna dive straight in, but I'm glad I haven't now.....
It's time to stop watching this thread, My decision is made....
There will not be an iq in my vape arsenal...

I think ceramic ovens are dated, I expect better for such a price now....
The flowermate put me off ceramics anyway....
Now I have health concerns about it (cracks/dust), that's the final nail in the coffin...

The apparent variation between models seems extreme.... with regards to heat production...

Poor quality customer service for such a device is just not on...
And even people unboxing dirty items....

We should all expect better than this now....
No amount of fancy software can hide an inherently poor design....

Out.................

@Davinci_vaporizer, it may be expedient to address the cracking issue with a bowl redesign in future
production iQs?

A glass liner for existing iQs? :sherlock:

Why do I feel like a βeta tester?

Not meaning to make cracks. Just sayin.

PS A silicon skin to help dissipate heat. Great hand warmer in New England cold, otherwise.

Yea davinci said the single crack looking seam is normal. Shouldn't be a big concern but if you can see it then it may be a weak point. I bet there not all like that. The seam in the oven is probably not the greatest cut or seal of the tube. But yes dated heater. Looks the same as the xmax, goboof Alfa and countless cheap Chinese vaporizers. The purpose of the pearl is to conduct heat to the center where the heater can't reach. That's why the Alfa had that steel poll in the center. That can't help the battery life neather. They could have put that work into a better heater design, or at least some convection to heat the middle. Has a few smarter features and there control board is good, but nothing you can't do with temp control on the device alone. The outside shell shouldn't have been made in alluminum as it conducts to much heat. At least a silicone type coating or a double layer better insulated case and heater. They also did a poor job explaining proper care of 18650s to the uninformed. The inside of the battery compartment should be anodized or insulated from the metal on all sides as well. The battery wraps tear easy and they can short internally if it's touching any metal inside.

Hi all, just got mine today, ordered Nov 18th. I'd really like to try it out because I waited so long to get it, but mine curiously didn't come with a flavor chamber. I checked all the boxes, vaporizer and the area I unboxed everything for what seemed like a million times but it just didn't come with it. Got everything else though. I'm currently trying to get one sent out to me (good luck, I know), but what I'm wondering is does anyone think I can use this thing without the flavor chamber?

Neither have I. Been using it without no issues....but I still want one!

I just got one without the flavour chamber. I've been trying to contact them but no game. And then they saw my post on reddit and finally they contacted me (took about 2 weeks). Sent all the info but haven't heard from them since. No new ticket, nothing.
Any update @Davinci_vaporizer? (#57997)

Did you get yours? What was your way of contacting them? Any difference between using it with and without?

I'd like to hear from @Davinci_vaporizer whether it's safe to use with the crack. I also have one, I don't care as much about as aesthetics as long as i'm not damaging myself or the unit, i'd rather not have to RMA but I will at least once before giving up!

Use the chat feature on DaVinciVaporizers.com for quick communication. Tim has always answered my chat within a minute during hours. They sell the chambers on site and I know Tim will have another sent out. The DaVinCi rep said the IQ needs the chamber in place to work efficiently.

I also want @Davinci_vaporizer to come here , or even better an actual official announcement in their website explaining the ceramic oven cracks, health concern and if it will happen to every unit but how I see things I DONT think we will get a detail answer addressing all the questions/concerns we have anytime soon ,maybe a "send it back we'll give you a new one" because, and this is speculation and my own opinion, lets say :

scenario 1(worst):
- if the ceramic oven will crack and it's a health risk, they would not rush to answer until they get all the facts straight and have a solution cause this scenario + all the that have happened since the launch could take the company under and if they just say this straight up I think it will cause customer panic

scenario 2:
- the oven will crack but is not a health issue( for some material they used with it or something) , this is also really bad cause they wil have to recall all the units and find a different material (quartz or stainless) but this will mean time to re-design and waiting time for the customers to get it back , which im sure ,with the already long periods of time we had for getting it in the first place the majority of ppl won't wait for a new design And will ask for their money back. Not because is not worth it but because I dont think the customer trust is there anymore.

scenario 3("best"):
-this crack ovens are isolated cases and won't happen in all the units , I guess ,by the way the send my package, that during crunch time to get back in track with pre-orders they didn't take that much time to QC some of the units and some of them have different Making qualities than other and you can see it when some unit get super hot other don't, some came with missing pieces and some in the best condition, some ovens are cracking or have seems others are amazing. So even in this scenario is bad for Davinci to answer if they dont have a reason on how/why the cracks are caused and how to prevent them ,again very bad PR for the company

but again this is my opinion and could be totally wrong and we might see an good answer for our concern and I'm really hoping this will be the case.

I was super excited to get my IQ but I haven't used it or take it out of the box again, first for the turn off it was to get it that dirty of a box.and accessories and second because I got a vape to be healthier and stop putting smoke/tar in my lungs so I'm waiting for the ceramic oven issue/health concern to be address before I put any vapor from this vape into my lungs.

I hope to hear from @Davinci_vaporizer

cheers

@Davinci_vaporizer please tell us if there have been firmware upgrades during the current production runs? Specifically there seems to be a difference between my two IQs I have used regarding the battery reserve required to allow the IQ to start and heat oven from cold to 430. I vape at 430 and my batteries are only good for one session, even though the battery is not spent (3.8 V when plugged in Xtar VC2 charger). I have to restart while hooked to power or use a new battery to work around this. This was not an issue with my first IQ, hence my query. Would performing a factory reset be appropriate? Also is it my imagination that the vibrations became shorter, less intrusive on the second IQ?
I really appreciate the ability of the IQ to take small quantities of herb and deliver quickly a series of powerful hits until gone, more like time wise similar to working a bong. Too small a load in other portables is not as satisfactory experience IMO (too wimpy and wispy). My Ascent is great for two or more but it's hard not to waste herb with one person's use.
Currently I use Pyrex flowers for heat sink/spacer/screen functions, to provide those potent bong like hits. I have another pearl ordered with my generous store survey credit. Are others using their spare pearl by just placing it on top of the load in the oven as a spacer? If so, are there issues with the pearl removal?
Oh yeah, almost forgot, not too important IMO but if ceramics were that toxic in this application, the ceramic ovens would not be in widespread use now. Maybe if we were talking plutonium toxic I would be worried. Compared to what we breath everyday in modern society, the ceramic bowl issue fails to tighten my anal sphincter muscles.

OK. After USPS tickled my balls and said my IQ would arrive last Thursday, it finally ended up on my doorstep Monday.

PACKAGING: As many have mentioned, the packaging was stellar. Every detail felt premium and gives a wonderful first impression for the IQ.

DAVINCI IQ BUILD: You know that feeling you get when you upgrade your phone? Like everything looks and feels perfect. That is how it is to be introduced to the Davinci IQ. It's smaller than I expected, which is great because it feels perfect in my hand. One of my minor beefs with The Mighty is that it looks like I bought it from the hardware section of Sears. The IQ is totally opposite. There is a surprising amount of weight to it, but, again, it feels great in the hand. I did go with blue, which (as others have stated) is more of a silver. I was hoping this piece would match my Firefly 2 a bit more (meaning more blue than silver), but that is a minor gripe.

ACCESSORIES: I love that not only do we get the essentials with the IQ, but a few extras as well. It basically comes with an accessory kit, a USB charging cable that is longer than expected, a keychain tool and a carry can. Davinci not only provides premium packaging, they throw all of the goodies in as well.

FIRST/SECOND IMPRESSIONS: I had to go with my first couple of impressions because the experiences were so different. There is a slight learning curve to the IQ. From loading to how to use the buttons, you definitely need to read the small instruction booklet and keep in on hand the first few sessions. Hearing about the amazing flavor, I decided to put a nug of my current favorite strain in to give this vape its first test drive. I thought I read somewhere that putting a whole nug in the oven is best. This was tough to do because the IQ is a lawnmower. That oven is deceptively deep. That didn't seem to be the case for me. First, I thought my IQ was defective. It turned off on me a couple of times (even though I made sure to charge for a couple of hours before using). I look back and believe it was just me not understanding the vape yet. The first session was OK. Flavor was on point, but I didn't feel like I was getting the most out of the vape. I look down and the smart path was low. I usually vape at a higher temp. I set it aside and regroup for a second session, this time breaking down the dug and stirring the oven to get more out of what I put in. Second session, at a higher temperature and with the herb broken up a bit more yielded more clouds and still maintained a great flavor. I could tell I was on the right track. The buzz was good, but very subtle. It was like it snuck up on me and I was more affected by the herb than I felt I would be based on the clouds and flavor. The device does heat up, but never got to the point where it was too hot to hold. My only minor heat related gripe is when using the IQ with the 10mm adapter. The stem does heat up and you will notice it on your lips if you are vaping for a while. Again, it was never uncomfortable, just something I noticed.

THIRD IMPRESSION: 'Cleaning' my first couple of sessions was EASY. This thing just kind of stays clean in the over area (at least for now). Learning from my mistakes, I switched up the stash, grinded it up well and filled that deep ass bowl once again. Now I am on point. I am learning the details of the IQ (how to boost/use precision temperatures/etc) and getting great results. The clouds are larger and the wonderful flavor never seems to die. These hits ALWAYS taste good. Even when I could tell I had burned all the fun out of the over, it still TASTED great. The Mighty tends to give the burned popcorn type flavor that tells you when to quit. I don't really get that with the IQ.

FOURTH IMPRESSION aka I'M IN LOVE: For whatever reason, I thought of glass and wanted to see if there was a way for me to try it out. I pull out this adapter (http://delta3dstudios.com/nearly-universal-vape-to-waterpipe-adapter-medium/) and it's like it was MADE for the IQ. Fill the bowl, heat it up, flip it over and fill the glass with vapor. O M G!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was the smoothest hit I've ever taken. The flavor wasn't as intense, but still amazing. The flavor was more like smelling a great candle that is burning from another room rather than sticking your nose in said candle in a store. Still wonderful, just a little less intense. Trying the vape through glass was easy and convenient. It just worked all around and didn't feel like I was Macgyvering it as it does when I connect other vapes to glass. I've only done this once or twice now and loved it. It may be my go to session for a while.

OTHER THOUGHTS: I received my Sanyo NCR18650GA 3500mAh 10A Flat Tops from imrbatteries on the same day. I haven't yet charged these, but comparing them to the battery that came with my IQ, everything appears to be exactly the same. I put one of the Sanyo's in the IQ and it fit perfectly. I will let you all know how it works when I charge one up and use it. As for right now, I'd say the IQ has The Mighty beat. Granted, these are early impressions. It's easy to love a vape in week number one. We will see how it holds up in the long haul. I haven't played much with the app, and look forward to customizing the IQ to fit my needs. I've not made use of the flavor chamber, but can't wait to give it a go. My only real complaint is the size of the bowl. It is nice to be able to circle back to the same bowl later (which I recommend stirring first if you do so), but I'd rather just hit what I load, when I load it. I have unscrewed the pearl a bit and know there is talk about reducing the size of the oven with some sort of device/additional pearl. I think this is a great idea for the solo vaporist. As is, the IQ could hold it's own in a small group and make everybody happy.

I've had my IQ for some time now. Pre ordered on day one, no cracks of any sort on my oven.

Also the ceramic curing process would of turned it from a powder to a solid state. Unless you have a gaping crack and are picking at it there should be no dust simply due to a hair line split in the glass.

I could be wrong on the above as I am basing this on my knowledge of ceramic from my dealings with the material over the course of 11 years in the hvac trade. It is on many of my parts and unless I break it in half and scrape away at it there is never any dust.

Davinci needs to get on top of this as this is starting to spread like wildfire and we really need to put it to rest as to stop scaring off customers.

@cloraform do you think the brush tool that we use to "scrape" stuck material from the over , could also scrape some dust from the crack? or in you opinion it should be broken in half and scrape with hard object (knife like) to actually create dust ? , just wondering

thanks

In what I have seen from dealing with ceramics those hair line fractures in the coating and our little tools are in no way abrasive enough to cause the ceramic to turn back into dust.

I am not claiming to be a specialist in ceramics I have just worked hands on with the material over and over in my years in my trade. These ceramics are used in multi million btu furnaces and are incredibly tough. The only time I have ever see them crumble is when they are broken in half and expose the more untreated bits of the ceramics

Hope that helps

How do you lengthen a session from 10 minutes to 20?
I set a temp and just puff until it vibrates in my hand with the haptic feedback and shuts off, usually just at 10 minutes. Unless by a 20 minute session you're talking about turning the IQ back on like RIGHT after it shuts off at 10 minutes?

Excuse me if I'm asking alot of noobish questions...this is my first experience with Vaping of any kind and I want to make sure I'm not harming myself or my product by using it incorrectly or picking up bad habits. I've already gotten used to cleaning the oven and device lightly after each session and I'm sure something can be done with that Flavor chamber that I'm missing out. Sniffing it after a weeks worth of use has an oddly calming effect.

Dam sorry to hear these issues I feel for you guys..they should put a safety mechanism in the chamber where a crack won't allow the unit to power on. I had an imag ceramic that developed a crack in the chamber and it would not power on due to the issue...it wasn't dropped my wife was using a small screwdriver to clean and scrape the chamber and a hairline crack developed..after that the unit wouldn't power back on correctly,it shut off as soon as you tried to power it up. I can't confirm nor deny that this was a safety feature just sharing my experience that once the crack developed the unit was useless and refused to power on . Aside from the potential health issue, hot air from the oven flowing into the internals like idk maybe a battery can definitely cause problems..I hope all you with issues are made whole by Davicni.

Oh, just by turning it up from SP2 to SP3.

SP2 for 5-10 mins
SP3 for 5-10 mins
"420 mode" (420° in precision mode) to kill it.
