DIY Mod Box Logos

I'm always been a zero in non-applied phisics, and in the last days I felt persecuted by watts, ohms, amps and volts... So in my wait for Project parts (when I will finally understand those laws applying them on myself...:science:) I dedicated my spare time on customizing the Mod Box.
I've been a graphic designer some ages ago, so I'm somewhat nostalgic about old graphics and I've found the creation of logos a funny pastime. It is like working with a black & white mosaic, and I think the results can be interesting old fashioned pieces!

Here are the last versions of my logos dedicated to the "Eraser" Project:
64x48 (for Reuleaux)

64x40 (adapted for Cuboid)

To apply any of them: convert files in bmp format, launch the firmware update application and load the desired file.

Ways to create a logo: you can simply create a 1 bit .bmp image (64x48 for Reuleaux, 64x40 for Cuboid) with black background, and start to draw in freestyle... or you can create a greyscale image with a black background, insert white elements (graphics, text - vectorial elements work better), convert in bmp and see the results. Rearrange the tiles... voilà.

Please feel free to contribute with your works

Cool stuff. Some or most of the Joyetech devices only support 64X40 pixel so resizing might need to be done. Easy with any descent editor though like Irfanview or similar. The windows editor sucks.

Thanks for the infos! 64x48 is the Reuleaux standard in fact. I only use photoshop as image editor so... I can only agree on the suckness of Win editor.

EDIT: since resizing deforms the images, I've adapted them for you.

Actual pictures with shading don't come out very well.
Here is the above pic resized (64X48) and cropped some.

Yes I know, it was only for fun.
I'm not able to download it but it seems not bad at all anyway!

I had to re-post as I screwed up on the conversion. The new one should work.

Allright, decided to update to myevic but i am trying to convert the files in bmp and they end up not being single coloured. How can i single color them so they are accepted by the firmware?

I am also having troubles adding these bmp files to my cuboid. However, mine tells me that they need to be 64*40, even when they already are. :hmm:

Have you tried with irfanview as Pipes suggested? Because it works..!
Simply download the application, drag the files from this thread to your desktop, open it with irfanview, save as .bmp.

I am on a mac so there is no irfanview available to me. Instead, I downloaded a different program (xnviewmp) and did the same conversion. I also downloaded a simple paint program to see if I can try and contribute other pictures.

How to transform an image with irfanview (Win) - (for Mac: xnviewmp)

1- Choose your image
A_OK_Rocket_Scientist.jpg

2- Open it in irfanview and resize the image >>> Menu "Image" >>> "Resize/Resample" >>> Uncheck "Preserve aspect ratio" >>> Set new size: 64x40

3- Convert in black & white >>> Menu "Image" >>> "Decrease color depth" >>> "2 Colors (black/white)(1 BPP)"

4- Save in .bmp!

EDIT
You can also try to invert step 2 and 3... different results. But you'll have to convert in black & white again after resizing.

The instructions above should be adaptable to any image converter... I can't help you more because my old iMac is retired..! Please post the solution when you reach it, as a reference for other Mac users.

The instructions for mac are very similar to irfanview. I used xnviewmp for mac.

1) Choose file and open with xnviewmp
2) Under the 'Image' menu, choose 'Change colour depth...' and choose 'Binary' and check 'Apply to image'
3) Under the 'Image' menu, choose 'Resize...' Uncheck 'Keep Ratio' and put 64 in the 'Width' and 40 in the 'Height'
4) Under the 'File' menu, choose 'Save as...' and select BMP from the drop down menu.

Right now I am a fan of the Space image that you posted above. Hopefully my eraser comes soon to make it a set!

Thanks @funkyjunky. A different way that doesn't stretch-to-fit your images. And it seems that the Editor can edit many, many other things...

The results:

Ho to:
- Dowload NFirmware Editor from funkyjunky link above.
- Launch it. Click on Tools >>> Image Converter
-
Select Source > Resize at pleasure > Select Conversion Type > Save Bitmap
