Wasting Material?

In this video for Vapcap, George tells his young companion, "Believe it or not, if you see a cloud you're wasting your material".

Can someone explain what he means? If I see a cloud, how am I 'wasting' my material? On nearly every hit I exhale visible vapor when using my my VB1.

He says this at the 6 minute 25 seconds point in the video.

For true super economy, the theory goes that If you can see visible vapour on exhale, then your lungs have failed to absorb all the thc, and other cannabinoids.

This is because you have inhaled too much for your cillia to deal with.

So the most efficient way, is to take small hits, just enough for your lungs to soak up.
Then take another hit, and so on until your material is finally spent. This can take a long time.

But give it a try, it certainly does get you very high.... maybe just a change of delivery method, but nice to mix things up.

The theory, and I do believe in it, is that when you cloud chase and blow out huge plumes...those huge plumes contain oodles of the goodies you did not absorb. It may be wasteful but it sure is satisfying.

Another way to look at it is .... ever been in a crowd getting buzzed when someone over hits and then coughs out a monster hit. I can't help but think "what a waste" even when I do it.

I cloud chase when I want to treat myself and for efficiency of product take middle to smaller hits that when exhaled are whispy at best. I also use the re-inhalation technique when I see that I am exhaling a cloud. These topics have been debated probably 20 to 30 times, or more, on this site.

My MFLB rarely if ever produces visible clouds when I use it and I may have to take 2 or 3 more hits than with my heavy hitters to get to the same place...but I use less herb and arrive in the same condition.

So, when we all had hair down to our ass and rolling joints, we learned to hold the toke in as long as possible.

Then, people spread the idea (with some validation) that your lungs absorb the active incredients almost instantaneously.

The only report/study I have seen on this concluded that holding for 10 seconds took up more active ingredients than blowing out immediately but longer than 10 didn't help. However (and I don't have this study close to hand), my impression was that this study was VERY far from being conclusive and definitive.

Here's the question that I have never yet been able to get an answer to, to wit: what substances in MJ vapor are visible. Keep in mind, not all substances in gaseous form are visible. In MJ vapor, something sure is but what is it? Is it the THC, is it other cannabinoids, is it other non-active substances in MJ. Just what makes the white vapor?

WE need to understand this before we can make any conclusions about whether exhaled clouds are wasteful or not.

@herbivore21 - do you happen to know? Has anybody looked at this and can tell us what constituent part(s) of the produced vapor is/are visible as white gas?

Some interesting stuff here related to this topic.

I guess that i'm an oxymoron of sorts being that not only do I have a reputation around here of getting high using minuscule amounts but I'm also a cloud chaser which just goes to prove that those two concepts are not mutually exclusive. A lot of this has to do with the particular vape that you're using, your tolerance level, the quality of your bud and your vaping technique.

If that theory applies why doesn't my husband get high off my leftover vapor?

He needed to stop cannabis because he is tested for drugs every so often. He never knows when. It's a part of his employment because he works with heavy machinery. He has never tested for cannabis from my leftover vapor that's in the air. Just curious is all. He's had probably 30 drug urine tests over the last 10 years.

You can't get high with leftover vapor in the air.

Edit
No, he's not hovering over my mouth. He's sitting in the same room with me only 10 feet away or less. You would think my husband would be absorbing some cannabis after living in the same house with me? I don't vape down in the basement of my house. I vape freely wherever I want to in my home.

Questioning minds want to know. Where's @t-dub or @OF they might explain it.

I don't take huuuge draws but I always have quite a bit of visible vapor in the air. I would never blow it in my husbands face because I always wondered about that. Years ago we would exhale our draws in each other's mouth occasionally back in the day. I believe there would be some active cannabis vapor in the air. I don't really use that much cannabis with vaporizing compared to the combusting days.
I like seeing the vapor in the air.

Is he hovering over your mouth inhaling the vapor you are exhaling?

Just postulating, but I reckon the vapor is heavily diluted upon exhale with the rooms air, and it's lack of density allows it to dissipate faster. One toke off a one hitter/dugout seems to linger longer than one of my huge volcano bags.

Something else to keep in mind here. It seems that the only vape manufacturers that make the claim that any exhaled clouds is wasted vapor are from manufactures whose vaporizers don't produce clouds that are used by the average user, such as the vaporizer mentioned in the OP as well as the MFLB. Magic Flight makes this exact same statement as well.

Of course, you could also say that the manufactures who manufacture cloud-chasing vaporizers don't make this statement for the exact same reasons as Dyna and Magic Flight do.

Ah..........marketing at it's finest, eh? Brings back memories of those weekly brainstorming marketing meetings.

I'm more of a 'I want the pain to go away' chaser than I am a 'cloud' chaser. But yeah, for some reason seeing that cloud being exhaled is, well, satisfying.

It's hard for me to judge how much I'm taking in since there isn't much that's visible coming up through the tube. When I use glass it's sometimes easier to tell. Even with small hits I still exhale some vapor.

The materials are being wasted comment seemed kind of odd, but it makes sense now.

I use a hybrid method, to get the satisfaction of a nice cloud AND at the same time, not exhaling excessive un-absorbed goodies.
I have a vape table with a vape lamp, and blow the vapor over that. Without the lamp I would see very little vapor as I'm a micro-doser.
With the lamp, I see a nice vapor cloud above the lamp YET I'm not blowing out a lot of cannabis goodness.

I don't worry about wasting material & exhaling a cloud is a extremely satisfying feeling. What I found does work (for me) is a long, slow deep draw & on exhaling very slowly hyperventilate. It seems the more time the vapour is passing over lung tissue the more is absorbed. Then again when I become a dragon I can exhale plumes of vapour & feel smashed as well. Different journeys, same destination .

i got my first table top vape in 1999. in reading up on vaping, people would say that if you see vapor, that you are at too hot a setting. so i'd vape at a low temp and not see vapor.

the high sucked, i was using twice as much weed so i put it in the closet of unused toys. it took me 2 more vapes and 10 years before i started trying for cloudy vapor. i giggled for the first time since i first got high. giggling in your 50s is not very dignified! i don't like using whips, just balloons. i'll never go back to joints unless there isn't a vape around.

Holding a joint smoke in for longer also added to light headedness and the rush of blood to your head therefore creating what we thought was a bigger high from reducing the oxygen in our body by holding your breath.

I don't buy that. I don't get lightheaded when I hold my breath. The only sensation I get is.........."I need to fucking breath 'cause I'm outta breath!!!"

Aside from personal subjective judgements about how we feel using different vapor hold times and techniques, the fact of the matter is we are just spinning wheels discussing this because we do NOT HAVE THE DATA to support the discussion.

I have yet to find anybody who can tell me which components of MJ vapor are visible. For all we know, all of the THC and CBD are absorbed in moments (and some people claim that is true) and all we are seeing on exhale is other stuff that would congeal on our lungs like reclaim in a drop down. haha

I have yet to find any definitive and validated studies that determine what percentage of cannabinoids are absorbed by your lungs at what point in time when holding it. As mentioned, I found one report that indicated that holding for any longer than 10 seconds was a waste of time (but 10 seconds is a loooong time) but they didn't determine the actual point where benefits drop off with hold time. It could be one second, 3 seconds, something.

So, anecdotal and subjective judgements are fine for guiding our personal behavior and technique. But I don't think there is any valid data to support any broader or more definitive statements on this subject.

What we need are real scientific and medical studies but that's just hasn't happened yet in any significant manner (thanks to our government).

Just my opinion and I always have one! LOL
