Some Questions About Glass

I have been vaping for a relatively short while, and am looking at getting a water setup, and adding the Liger 3.0 system in the future. There is so much information and so many products that my head is spinning and have a few questions if anyone would be so kind to answer. I’m so OCD that I feel I have to read everything I can find, but that just leads to more questions.

1) What are the advantages/disadvantages of the intake in center of rig vs on a separate arm?

2) Is it better to buy one with a 14mm connection for the vape(s) I have, or an 18mm and use an adapter? Would it be more versatile for possible future purchases if I purchased an 18mm? I currently use the VapCap products and the Arizer Air which need a 14mm connection.

3) Male or female connector for the concentrate setup? I’ve read that the male connectors can expand and break the glass, but not sure if this applies to the Liger system or other concentrate setups, or if it is even an issue.

4) From the cca710 site – Zeus Nail coming soon – what is this?

Please advise if there are any other issues I need to know about before I cut loose and start buying. I really want to purchase the correct setup for me from the start, as I don’t have a lot of money to experiment with a lot of different setups, nor do I have the room to store it all. Thanks!

1. The most important thing here will be placement of the Liger or other nail for dabbing, I think. Ideally you'll want something that is comfortable to dab on and to see while you are doing it. This can be a little awkward on some pieces depending on the relative placement of the mouthpiece and bowl. You're also going to need to think about stability of the piece with the Liger on it (or with dropdown and other nail if necessary). Aside from these things and pure aesthetics I don't think there are any real differences.

2. You may as well get the 14mm since it fits the stuff you need. This is probably the most common joint size for regular sized oil rigs anyway. There's no reason to go 18mm unless you have something to fit it. You can always get an adapter if you need an 18mm joint.

3. I'd go for the female joint, which is also far more common these days. Male joints were the standard at first when people were using direct-inject nails. If you find one you really like with a male joint, though, it's not gonna be a problem.

4. I think the Zeus nail is a domeless Ti nail that possibly can use inserts. I'm not positive about that but it's not like the next big thing or anything. I think he's just refining that design as well.

Don't spend too much on the e-nail itself (controller and coil). Many affordable setups have become available recently for around $100 rather than $400 or more from Mininail or D-Nail, etc.

I went with HighFive http://www.highfivevape.com/ (I think if you go for this brand you need to get their coils because of the setup of the XLR connections. Not a big deal because they're cheap, but FYI) but there are other options.

Here's the thread for the Auber controllers which seem to be popular and reliable: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/auber-enail-discussion.20018/ . Here's another one for Cheap Chinese E-nails: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/cheap-chinese-e-nail-thread.21236/ .

There are different options for coils, too. You'll probably want a barrel coil rather than the flat coil, but it's up to you. There's a flat coil Liger now. I recommend getting a 20mm rather than the 16mm.

Hope that helps some.

@KimDracula thanks so much for the input - very helpful!

1) While looking at the glass options, I realized I need a piece with a wide, stable base. Not sure about height though.

2) Thanks - I didn't realize 14mm was the most common joint size.

And thanks for the mention of the high5 and auger enail systems. I had been looking at those, and it seems like a lot of folks that have them, like them a lot. I'm probably going to go with the 20mm and barrel coil, as the 30mm and flat seem like overkill in my case. I'm sure that with the flower microdoses I use, my concentrate dabs will be almost microscopic.

@KimDracula already nailed the enail assessment. The only higher end one that I am thinking is worth the extra right now is the Hexnail and I haven't gotten to try all of those cool features yet. And they aren't necessary for a perfectly functioning enail.

It looks like you have figured out the perfect setup. I would go with a 14mm, not 18mm or 10mm . I like to use a drop-down to keep my rigs clean, other guys don't it's preference. But you are dead on getting a wide base. I use a liger pretty much all of the time. If you want to check out the liger on a few different rigs look check out some of the videos on my IG page. Tell me a price range and I can point you in the right direction of a nice piece of glass or a cool artist too. I'm @mrbonsai710 on IG.

@mrbonsai420 thanks for the input. I've looked at the Hexnail site, and that's going to be out of my budget at this time, although it's a beautiful looking product and I look forward to seeing the reviews. The investment in the Liger system is where I've decided to spend the $$.

I've seen quite a few posts of the glass you have collected - gorgeous! I'll definitely check out your IG page and drool some more. I think I will start out with an inexpensive glass rig to get the feel of it, and then perhaps update to something a little more exotic. When I get to that point, I'll PM you for suggestions. It seems like the glass can be as much of an addictive obsession as my Vapcaps!

Unfortunately, I'm in a non-legal state (probably one of the worst) so it will be awhile before I can do a road trip and have access to some concentrates. I have some time to get it all together.

I would look into rosin rather than wait for a road trip. Easy solventless delicious dabs that are well worth the effort. That said, I still say you haven't truly lived until you have tried a nice live resin so a road trip would definitely be in order down the line

Unfortunately for me, my access to flower is limited also, due to the fact that since I took a loooong t-break to get married, raise a family, etc. I have no contact with anyone reputable at the moment for it either. Good thing I'm a micro-doser or I would have a problem. Luckily, Denver is a 12-hour drive and I have a brother that lives there.

Forgive me if I sound brash, but why buy a liger if you don't have access to concentrates or enough flower to make your own?

I understand your question, but I only want to purchase a setup one time, so I'm in it for the long term. When I do the road trips, I purchase enough to last me awhile. Since I micro-dose, I can make it last a long time.

No worries, the best way to save money is getting the right thing the first time. I guess I never actually checked the price, I was under the impression they were super expensive when people talk about $300 inserts; I didn't realize the regular banger is only like $150.

The system is not cheap, but there won't be a $300 insert in my world! The SiC insert is the one I'm going to order so it's not out of line. I just hate spending money on something and deciding later it's not what I want, and end up purchasing what I originally wanted to begin with. However, I can justify about anything if I want it bad enough!
