I just visited the site and re-read the blog....and I found my answer!! They will be shipping with CCA Liger 3.0 presets! Also the "Glob Mode" video with the Liger dab was so cool!! Now I really can't wait to get mine!! If this thing pairs as well with the Liger as it seems to; you guys will have set the new standard!

Holy shit! Please get that offline unit developed soon. If this controls a sublimator heater as well as my Liger and the d-nail halos then sign me up! On that note, I am guessing you guys will have presets for the d-nail halos?

We really want to get the Sublimator properly implemented, but a few set backs over the last week or so with parts, flight delays, and weather have put us in crack down mode pretty hard for Round One.

Our Sub is currently on loan from a member here and we don't want to keep it too long. We will be thinking about implementation a lot over the next couple of days and hope to have an update to add the feature soon after v1.0 software is finalized.

We have a loaner Quartz Halo that will be on the tuning block once we get our Liger tunings in order. As we continue to update the tuning libraries we will definitely be adding specific tunings for other Halos as well.

Once our core features are implemented and first round of hardware is out we'll definitely be doing some polling to see what people want to see implemented first (next). Have a feeling Sublimator will be at the top somewhere. Haha.

You'd basically have to rip my Ligers from my cold dead hands at this point. I can't get over it. CCA's units will be the first out the door and we're excited to get their feedback, too.

------

And a general apology to everyone concerning a lack of updates for the past week or so. It's been pretty nuts to say the least...but all Round One milling is a few days from done, assembly is well underway, all of our parts are present, sorted and accounted for (including our heater coils). Our developer is working 20 hour days isolated (by choice) in a closet. :whip:

I'll have some shots of the space tomorrow when it doesn't look like a bomb went off in the shop.

ROUND ONE UPDATES (Jan. 1, 2017)
(Includes Info On: Shipping, Hurdles, Extras, etc.)

OcNMzkw.jpg

(tl;dr & shipping info @ bottom of the post)

First off, I want to offer my sincerest apologies for not communicating more throughout the build process of Round One. I know how it feels to be left in the dark and it's frustrating as all heck. All of us have been working 'round the clock and sleeping around 2 nights a week for the last month and losing time happens more than I'd like it to.

------

I think we've officially started to refer to Round One internally as 'The Little Engine That Could'.

We've hit quite a few bumps in the road so far during Round One. The holidays really messed with us and we should have anticipated more issues concerning that right off the bat (both from a personal and business sense). Everyone here decided to basically ignore the holidays completely and just keep chugging along to try to offset some of the minor delays we're experiencing.

We stocked up on at least one of every replacement part we could think of, but we still had a few small delays with MORE replacements we needed over the last 2 weeks. We're planning to upgrade one of our (adding yet another) mill to HQ as soon as we can in 2017.

We took a lot of time to find the right wood supplier. We were confident they had reliably great product while building our prototypes (which nearly every piece was perfect for) but our largest shipment of wood for Round One had to be sent back. The whole first batch of coils we ordered also had to be sent back due to both quality and safety concerns (but we have since found a new supplier we're much happier with). So yet again, due to the holidays, we got set back quite a bit during these exchange processes.

oDMDpu6.jpg

(I mean, seriously, what the hell is this?):mental:

1biXFhE.jpg

(Or this? btw, this had seen new heat shrink 3 times by day 3 and the plug was replaced on day 3 as well. Then the ground ripped out.)

We tried to mill some of the slightly less warped stock but ended up scrapping a few hundred bucks in wood alone when we started to worry about the enclosures cracking once the finishing process started (or them literally just breaking in half during milling). It's been...frustrating to say the least.

We offset this somewhat by finding another local supplier for about half of the replacements we needed and just buying them outright, but we still took a pretty decent time hit there since the wood is basically the front end of the entire process.

And here's some shots of our new coils, which are lightyears ahead of our first shipment or the one above (which was bought from a local shop before our others had arrived as a 'back-up').
0KCRkgp.jpg

28HEP1L.jpg

The shrink is reinforced, the coils are actually wrapped in a friggin' ROUND SHAPE, they're Nichrome instead of Kanthal (Duh), and have Kevlar sleeves (thank god). The plugs are also MUCH higher quality than our previous stock.

------

We also invested a decent chunk of change into hiring and flying out a contractor I've known for a long time from Texas to help us further optimize our wiring schematics and help us throughout the assembly portion of Round One. His flight ended up coming in 2 days late, and his checked bag of tools took 3 more days to get here due to issues with lost luggage.

We were ecstatic to finally get him here though. He's been a miracle the past couple of weeks and the extra day or two we took redrawing the schematics with him was well worth it (he even found a way to add another hardware failsafe into the design without adding more 'noise'). In an attempt to take a load off our very over-worked developer (Liz, more straight from her below) he's taken over most of the internal manufacturing.

After that discovery we also wanted to put in another layer of software protection / auto-limiting functionality. Safety is one of our biggest concerns since I'm sure quite of few of y'all have units going on a regular basis throughout the day the same way we do here. We don't want anyone to have to worry about leaving their nail on in another room, etc. Though who's to say that's not just our personal paranoia peaking through? :whoa:

Our mounting hardware for the bottom of each unit has been changed as well to try and ensure better durability & longevity for each unit.

The delay in milling a lot of our Bloodwood orders set us back on testing and burning in a lot of units as well, but we also want to make sure we end up with every customer getting a good, solid controller. The last thing we want is for someone to receive a unit that just falls apart on them the next day. We are burning in each unit with their respective coils as well. After watching a lot of different coils break in and change (thermally) from our various testing throughout Round One we see this as a necessity to try and maintain solid temps 'out of the box' and verify proper function. Both coil and controller will getting a minimum of 48 hours burn-in before being shipped out. Period. Burn-in is also, of course, a big extra safety check, too.

I've compiled our final checklist for each unit (which will be included in your orders) to make sure we have at least 2 people check each unit in and out before shipping. They will be initialed after each inspection. This list will also serve as our Certificate of Authenticity so it will contain serial # and other relevant info about each unit (along with notes on any fun manufacturing tidbits like knots, eyes, and unique grain patterns in each enclosure, etc.). Each screen will be calibrated before sending it out. Little finishing touches like that are some of the minor things that slipped past us the last couple of weeks.
------
I waited on this update to get more info (re: code monkey stuff) from our developer on how the software is progressing as well so (for the first time) here's a little info straight from her.

Engineering is currently running security audits, compiling the final models, and just finished the v1.0.0 build!

While the software is still in it's infancy, the already feature-rich controller serves as perfect base from which to build.

We've taken the time to create a true IoT (Internet of Things) device; seamless delivery of an ever-improving product, only integrated as much or as little as it needs to be.

Our Android app will be available later this month and Apple still has the red tape around us at the moment (as you’d expect). We started the process awhile back, but can only assume the holidays have them dragging their feet as well (since we aren’t worried about it being approved in general).

Internally, we'll be discussing how much of the API to open up after pre-orders are out (think plug-ins, tuning rules, custom nail profiles, etc.), any and all suggestions / feature requests are welcome.

(Give us some stars for the new year? https://github.com/Hex-Nail/hexnail-module-examples/blob/master/README.md)

Here's a small preview of how some of the interface has changed / improved over the course of Round One as well. Bear in mind some of these shots are out of date and were taken after a ground-up rewrite of the entire system to improve stability and performance.

The last thing I want to address are the extras we were planning to sent out with units. Don't worry, any of you that ordered early, or chose exclusive swag over partial refunds to help us out financially during the bulk purchasing will absolutely still be getting some really fun (and useful) stuff...we just need to send it later this month once all of our unit orders are taken care of. I hope this doesn't disappoint anyone too much and I can promise I'm gonna try to get even more fun stuff done for everyone once we get the orders out.

We've got a few things planned, but just so you get an idea of what's coming here's a few of of the ideas I've been (literally) milling over here and there since Round One began...

Matching (Hardwood) Dabbers
- The body will be made of the chosen wood for each order

Controller (45 Degree Angle) Stands
- Various materials will be used. We'll also be looking into making mounting brackets at some point for direct mounting to walls, etc.

Signed Prototype Design Enclosure Pieces
- Round One will be a huge accomplishment for us and we want all of our supporters to have a piece of what they helped make happen besides just the unit itself.

And of course we'd love to send some of the usual 'stoner swag' like shirts, dab mats, pins, and stickers, too.

------

tl;dr - We hoping to send units out in small batches as we wrap-up each inspection and burn-in over the course of this (and next) week. Overall, in spite of a 'Santa's List'-esque set of issues we've run into outlook is positive and we can't wait to get these in your hands. Multiple year's worth of development, planning, testing, and prototypes are finally coming into focus and we ask that you bear with us just a little longer.

TRACKING NUMBERS WILL BE PROVIDED IN BATCHES AS SOON AS EACH ONE SHIPS. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO EDIT YOUR SHIPPING ADDRESS (IF NEED BE).

If anyone has any other questions please either message me here or e-mail us directly at: ava@hex-nail.com [CMO] (or) liz@hex-nail.com [CTO]

Happy New Year to you and Liz as well!

It's actually her birthday today, too! New year's baby. Still don't believe it. Haha. Mine is in 2 weeks. We aren't asking for much else other than all our units to be shipped as soon as possible and for a little break once that's done.

(I tried to add this to the other post via edit but I broke 10,000 characters with that last one, apparently. Woops.)

Thank you again for all of your support. We could never have been able to make this our full time focus if it wasn't for the community here at Fuck Combustion. We hope you are willing to stick it out a little longer with us. The ball is rolling pretty quickly at this point and we're as excited to hear what you think as your are to see them at your door.

Our sincerest apologies for the delay, but we have moved mountains to get this close and we're almost out of the wood. We hope everyone's 2016 wrapped up alright and we hope the holidays allowed for some relaxation and time with loved ones. We had hoped to make the ball dropping a little more exciting this year, but Liz and I both have our birthdays this month (hers is today, actually. Mine is in 2 weeks.) and I hope you can just give us a little more time and patience.

Thank you!

Sounds exciting! Not really worried about the delay, I'd rather have a working kick-ass product from day 1 than something I have to return a few times.

Had a couple ideas recently for additions:
  • Angled adapters for the sockets. I don't know if there is one for XLR but I know you can at least get angled power cables. Cable management seems to be it's one weakness, adapters give people a few more options.
  • The ability to slow the speed that the temperature increases and decreases for different modes. I'm thinking mostly for the sapphire here which is more sensitive to thermal changes. Above 800F I like to increase the temp in stages for cleaning but I think a slower more gradual increase rate could accomplish the same thing.

Thank you for the comprehensive update and look behind the scenes. The holiday grind and attention to quality is appreciated, more glad than ever to be in on round one.

Wishing you both a happy respective b'day, all the best to Hexnail in 2017!!!

Hi @HexNailAva, a happy new year to the staff of HN!

One thought, dont you think it would make sense to take ambient temperatures into account of programming ideal temperatures for different devices?
Maybe automatically by an integrated thermocouple, which is measuring ambient temperature and choices the right temperature controll programm?

FYI, I know this has nothing to do with the controller, I'm sure they could add that if they see value in it. It would certainly help if you are using it ourtside in the winter. But the temp is already being read on the tip of the coil, far outside of the dabbing surface. then the surface temp is deduced from that. With the V2 liger, the Halo, and other exposed coil system nails this would have made more difference. I have noticed that the shield on around the V3 not only shields the wind, so ambient temps and wind don't effect the Liger V3 as much. Plus the added mass of it makes for very slow and steady temp swings I have found. Much better than the V2 Liger even, that is the biggest difference between the 2 imo.

Hi Herb, thanks for explanation of my thought.
May be this option is not very important regarding the Liger V3. But I think they want to optimize the HN for a lot of different nails aside the Liger V3?

I've been answering a small backlog of questions and emails today, but I want to make sure everyone with issues/questions gets covered.

If you have not yet received a response to your email please message me here and get my butt in gear.

Thanks for your patience, folks. I know it's frustrating (and I can be forgetful), but we really appreciate your continued support.

Our 2 (and for now, 3) person team is working round the clock to try to get these wrapped up.

Either that or I buy too much stuff. Im not real sure which. I believe this unit is truly "next gen" tho so I need to be on that train.
It's one of the first of a next generation of enails. High Five has their touchscreen but it's just a touchscreen with bluetooth speakers for audio I believe?

It's taking it to the next level. Which for end users who are not science wizards is kind of very helpful for safe consumption.

Nail surface is 710 you don't assume the dish is 510 and lightyears better than http://www.d-nail.com/info/calculator/

Sure globbing and this and that changes things.

Hopefully we'll be seeing our Hex-Nails at our doorstep soon. I won't deny I'm anxious but I am willing to be patient for something that works right and is safe.

Lol I think you may have confused @mrbonsai420 with me there my friend!

I really hope that the Hex-nail gets presets for the various other top-of-the-line nails ASAP, all sapphire and SiC (Read: the d-nail halos, which have been around longest and would be likely to be more common out there in consumer land) IMO needs to be supported as well as a healthy selection of quartz nails for those still using them (d-nail/liger, the more common e-bangers etc) IMO.

Those who are paying for a new fangled high end e-nail controller are also those more likely to own a high-end nail. :)

Various flower vapes could also be incorporated very well: One of the biggest drawbacks of a number of the e-nail based flower tools is that they all have the capacity to accidentally combust. The d-nail flower adapter, the errlectric herb nail (may require an adapter?), even Newvape have one IIRC. All would be potentially greatly improved with more advanced heater behavior :D The Sublimator is an obvious other candidate here but that is going to be included from the look of it.

I look forward to hearing from the first user's experiences on this one. Of course I'll not be able to give my thoughts until a future networkless iteration comes along ;) I'm sure by then there'll have been plenty of time to bring in support for all of the e-nail stuff I like to use!

I've been a little worried about hooking up the Hex-Nail to my network. I figured that I could only connect it when an update comes out, or I'll force all of the traffic through my VPN with the torrents.
