Well, somebody has to be the first.

I'm signed up to drive low-income persons to doctor appointments, grocery stores, food banks, etc. Many are in wheelchairs, using walkers, blind, in chemo treatment, suffering from mental illness, or otherwise handicapped.

Actually, I've been doing this for about 6 months. I've found every one of the clients to be interesting people, and it's often humbling to hear their stories. They range from a blind and severely disfigured Vietnam vet, to blue collar workers, to homemakers, to a former Chef at a high-end Seattle hotel. Most of them had fruitful lives, until some type of disaster (most often health-related) struck. Makes one realize how fortunate we are, and how easily misfortune can change our lives.

Not looking for personal kudos, but we're somewhat anonymous here, so it's all good. :ninja: Besides, telling our stories might encourage others to find their own opportunity to serve.

Happy New Year!

My wife and I help with 2nd grade math class. The teacher brings in volunteers once a week to liven up the math lesson/ so the teacher can sit on her ass and watch us do all the hard work ;)

We do non-traditional math / word problems / hands on math with small groups of kids. We might explain how to measure with a yardstick and then ask how tall are 5 dictionaries stacked, how tall is this table, etc?

Or we might do a word problem like, If I've been vaping with my Herbalizer at 375 F and wish to raise the temp 18 degrees, what is my new setting? Just kidding......

It gives new meaning to phrase, "working with them is like trying to herd cats" lol
With this experience, we appreciate the work of teachers and it gives us a chance to interact with this next generation.
And some of the kids have no adult male in their lives so I get to be a role model (or is it roll model--caramel, cinammon, jelly) ??

I'm already doing my homework for the 2qan:
OK kids, get out your protractors please.
- With the 2qan leg fully extended, what is the angle of the leg?
- How many degrees more would it have to extend to be a right angle?
- How many 2qans would it take to make a 48qan?

Don't deprive those kids of their 2qan knowledge....... ;)

I don't have any specific thing in mind that I'm gonna do as a good deed but I'm gonna try and do more things with the kids and wife this year. I wanna be a better family man and person in general. I wanna be a nicer and more helpful person to anyone and everyone who may need something. Obviously it all takes work but I wanna be the best me that I can be and hopefully that also benefits everyone I come in contact with..

If you are already giving back to your community in a variety of ways it's a little hard to come up with something new, so humor me on this.

This is a cannabis consumption forum, so I'll keep it cannabis related. My good deal is to continue to aid in educating both myself and the greater communities of both cannabis and non-cannabis users alike. Many people who think of "weed" or "marijuana" or "cannabis" picture hippies, hoodlums, cracked out drug dealers, and all the worse that they see in TV's or movies. They rarely think about the positive effects of cannabis because it's not as well documented in pop culture, so I'll do my part of educate those who are not educated. I think it's important that we all change the stigma of cannabis and do a better job at pointing out how it has helped us in whatever way. That's what I'll do this year!

Planning a good deed seems backwards to me but I actually do have one small one planned to pay it forward.
I was getting $20 of gas about a month ago and someone had already paid for it. So I will plan to pay it forward with $20 for a random person in some way, just waiting until the time is right. (money is tight)

I like to believe small daily good deeds are the backbone to a postive change. Simply holding a door for the person behind you, letting someone go in traffic, and giving the first hit of a vape to the person you are sharing with always leaves the mind feeling better not being as selfish. I will continue to humble myself and put others first as I grow with the new year!!

Thanks for the contest @nenmayk very cool idea!!

Oh yeah if I won I would donate this to stand to vito to give it a proper home for one in need!

:peace:

I am a regular Volunteer Driver for the Canadian Cancer Society's Wheels of Hope Program and will continue to do so throughout 2017 and beyond. You can find more information about the program directly from the Society here:

http://www.cancer.ca/en/support-and-services/support-services/transportation-on/?region=on

Or through a news story covering the program and the services offered:

http://globalnews.ca/news/1780921/t...gram-provides-free-rides-for-cancer-patients/

I not only provide a ride for these patients in great need, but I also provide a caring person for emotional support and someone kind to talk to and who is willing to listen. I am an extremely caring individual which can be a struggle at times in my personal life, but in the capacity of a driver I am a perfect fit and able to offer these patients the support and care they need. I take mainly patients 18+, but this year they are phasing out a family assistance program which covered the transportation costs of families with children afflicted with this horrible disease. They will no longer be compensating families and will be having them signing up with the Wheels of Hope program I am a part of. So in the new year I will be transporting quite a few kids for treatment at Sick Kids hospital downtown. This I feel will be particularly challenging as everyone knows how difficult it is to see someone suffer with horrible diseases like cancer, but then put a child in their place and the heart strings just get all twisted up. However, my job is to help and support them and I will dutifully provide that as well as always give them everything I possibly can.

It has been so enlightening for me as I deal with chronic disease and disorders and life has been an uneasy ride from the start. However, to see some of these patients with near terminal illness still able to appreciate life for all it offers seems to be part antidote to my own misery some days. If they can still be happy with all they have to deal with, I should be able to manage something similar.

They are also so appreciative of the time and service that you are volunteering. So many unneeded thank yous and even gifts or small gestures of coffees and etc are just one way they who how much they appreciate what you do. I've had gifts given to me and as I try to refuse, patients have said you have no idea how much you have done for us. One patient was so nervous about her treatment and the fact I was able to provide the suppprt she needed and comfort her she feels the need to give me something to say thanks. I don't need gifts or anything, I am just happy knowing I could help make someone else's life a little easier is a gift enough for me.

I am actually a very in demand Driver for the society. I am very flexible and am willing to drive far distances to get patients to treatment. I actually like the distance drives as it gives more time to interact with the patient and inadvertently help through distraction or just by being a kind and caring listener. Most patients I take call their coordinator to ask if I can be their full time driver. Which happens in some cases, but is not always possible as I have a varying schedule. I also get patients just calling me to ask how I am weeks after driving them while sometimes they ask ask if I am available on certain day they have treatment. I will tell them if I am and if I am, they have to call their coordinator at the Society and they can schedule them with me. I give about 1-4 days per week year round to the service depending on availability with appointments and etc. I only work an actual paid job part time on the weekends when they are closed so I have lots of opportunity to enlist and help out when not at doctor's appointments and etc.

I give my all to the service and the patients it serves. I will never give any less and will always be a positive part of their day regardless of my own struggles. I hear from some patients there are some pretty grumpy drivers who are just unfriendly and not helpful. I can't believe they allow these people, but it seems that there is such a demand they need all the drivers they can get. I will never be grumpy or unfriendly though. Firstly it's just not in my nature, but secondly these patients have enough to deal with and a stressful ride to treatment is not something that should ever be added to their plate.

Few other things about the program is there is a one time $100 fee for the program, but this is for a lifetime of service, for as long as you have any time of cancer and have related appointments for follow up, treatment planning, treatment and etc. Even if they cure you and you come out of remission you are always eligible for the program once that initial fee has been paid. Also, nobody is ever turned away, if you can't pay the fee they will waive it for you. No family or person will ever have any difficulty accessing this service. It is available to everyone regardless of income. Most people on assistance or disability pay $0 for a lifetime of service.

This Volunteering opportunity is probably the most fulfilling thing I have ever done in my lifetime. And I don't even do it for that feeling, I do it because I want to help society somewhere where help is needed and by doing so, I am left feeling like I have actually done some good and contributed positively to the lives of others, especially those with terrible diseases like cancer.

I love helping my friends and people who I find can use the extra love and assistance.
My wonderful best friend, well, recently she started to consume cannabis more seriously, as in, she's not afraid of talking about it with her family and friends as much as she was before. She is not longer ashamed of doing something that, for her, helps her cope and helps her to enjoy and be more at ease as well as making it easier for her to socialize without the anxiety that can come from social outings.

I love helping, so I am planning on gifting her my Volcano Vaporizer and a Mobius 60t stemless stereo matrix, which I own that she is very partial to. I love to see the smile she gets when she uses it. I already gifted her an Arizer Solo and a Santa Cruz Shredder to get her started. I guess I love to make her feel noticed since I know she appreciates that greatly, it goes hand in hand, we both enjoy helping one another very much, and not only do we want to do it because it's helping the other, but we actually enjoy it as well.

There's a lovely word known as "compersion", which is the opposite of jealousy or envy, essentially we enjoy seeing each other happy and we light each other up which lights up the people around us and I pray we can just continue with our optimism continually making more people smile!

Anywho, I think that's enough reading for my fellow CFers !! Thank's FC :D

I thought this one was pretty sweet, it's nothing "big" like volunteer etc, but it's important, we all should give our family and loved ones our full attention. Nothing feels warmer, or cozier than full-on attention.

and there's this, some kinda Good Deed itself, tbs.
Thank, you @ChooChooCharlie for adding to the sponsorship.

I would ask that the 'contest', after awarding of the original 2qan gift, might be extended? It's been such a short time for members to get the nerve to talk about their own good deeds. Some are too modest, I'm certain.
Psssst...I got a secret for you Mighty owners...

I bought a couple extra 2qans as random gifts, and then I saw this contest:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/2qan-new-year-good-deed-contest.23475/

Don't be shy - post about your good intention for 2017. Two more birdies want a Mighty to hug, and give it the strength to stand after a demanding session. They will find a home among the contest runner ups this Saturday. Look, they're trying to get out my window:

I wouldn't mind at all if the contest were to be extended, even for the first unit, so that others could pass on their ideas/stories. It'd even be interesting to see what might be posted if this thread was moved to the Vapor Lounge. IDK, maybe that'd be overkill though.

Also, I agree that @ChooChooCharlie's added contribution is kinda cool. I need to look back and make sure I "Liked" it.

EDIT: Well, looks like @ChooChooCharlie's offer isn't in this particular thread. I guess that makes sense. I still like it though. :)

Great reading these positive deeds & vibrations.
May they ripple both outward & inward.
(is that too sappy? I get that way, sorry)

Looks like @MinnBobber and @mikek9 are the runner-ups.

Congrats and thank you both for the guts to share -- and hopefully inspire.
PM me your addresses.

Thanks for the contest, @nenmayk !!

And, thanks for designing the 2qan, and seeing it through.
My 2qan buying frenzy serves as my positive review.

A big Thank You to @nenmayk for running the contest, and for the 2qan. I enjoyed reading other's ideas and deeds. Also, many Thanks to everyone for the Likes.

I think the last thing I won was a pizza from the Pizza Casa in Ponders Corner (peeps near Tacoma may know the place...it's still there) about 50 years ago.
