HI @ccchase420 - again, as always, thanks for your time and effort to bring us these very excellent reviews.

I have a question...I notice that pretty much all of the concentrates you have reviewed have a nice soft consistency. This review for example. Is this the consistency at room temp or do you heat it up so you can do the "play with my concentrates" shots?

Thanks again, look forward to seeing the website up and running, and have a wonderful week.

hey Baron! always appreciate the kind words. the consistency of the concentrates is actually how they are, no added heat. i think concentrate makers here have unanimously decided that super shatter is not really ideal, and pull snaps and cake badders are really all i see nowadays. some companies still have super shatter stuff, sometimes i get some hard shatter from rumpwax and cannabiotix as well as SD Best Meds here in town. it used to be something that people strived for but once the hype around consistency kind of settled we just get nice, pliable concentrates now. i can't complain!

I think what people realized is that generally, super shatter means you have less terps and more of the major cannabinoids. People have started to appreciate that the terps are a proportionally larger part of the effects of the medicine relevant to dose than the major cannabinoids, and so the market seeks to provide those consistencies that give this - which appeals to most customers.

Here, solvent extractors have learned what we full melt enthusiasts have known for a long time: When you remove the waxy parts of the trichome membrane and secretory cells (ie: when you dissolve the resin heads during solvent extraction), you lose a chunk of the original flavor profile and effects.

Also, the remaining actives will decompose much more rapidly as you've destroyed the resin's natural defence against degradation (the membrane!). As such, I believe this has lead many extract artists to change their methods/avoid additional dewaxing steps that would give us those hard shatters - less processing for a more desirable product is always welcome from an extractor's point of view!

This doesn't mean that the solvent extracts they make without these additional steps are as good as whole trichome glands with intact membranes (which is still obviously going to retain more terps because the structure of the gland has not been compromised, retaining a protective membrane to avoid degradation of terps!), but there is a noticeable flavor/effect dividend nonetheless over the more processed solvent extracts, at the expense of some added harshness on the throat (terps alone will do this, of course so will the waxes and fats).

Super hard, dewaxed shatters do have benefits for people with respiratory issues (extra terps irritate the airways, fats and waxes too!) or who wish to experience less psychoactivity (daytime medication especially). This is one of the most compelling reasons to use any solvent extracts, even for someone like me who only uses full melt generally!

Thanks @ccchase420 - good to know. I rather like softer products also as the super hard shatter is just a bit more difficult to handle, I believe, plus the issue of terps that @herbivore21 brought up.

When in CO last, I picked up some shatter and really wanted that hard consistency at this time due to concerns about plant waxes and such, but in retrospect I believe I got on the wrong side of the trade off there. I now would rather have the pliancy and the terps.

Thanks again, guys.

Man many of us, including myself have come full circle on our preferences for Shatter like yourself ;) I remember how shatter obsessed I was when I started out extracting just a few years ago! We live and we learn brother :)

There is nothing worse than accidentally flicking shatter in all directions trying to break off a dab

@ccchase420 man 1080p at 60 frames was a pleasant surprise :D I'm loving your new camera bro!

Holy shit on the pricing on that material too (which is clearly fire) btw! $80 a gram is approaching rosin or even full melt prices. This is ordinary (in terms of process) BHO isn't it, not live resin?

I am always interested to see the pricing and which products demand the most $$$, it seems like pricing often has very little relationship to the cost/labor/time inputs and that most important price-determining factor - output yield from the same input material! But I digress lol

The amount of pull you had to give that sap to get it off the parchment told me that there is some proper weight to that stuff! That is sap in the truest sense, looking good whatever they charge for it :D :leaf:

Completely agree. The production quality just increased a very noticeable amount.

Holy fucking shit I just discovered this and it is straight porn. Holy jesus I was on the verge of crying multiple times.
hehehe....have you watched all 28 or 29 episodes. It will make you want to ask @ccchase420 if he needs a roommate! LOL

I just payed 130$ cad for some very rare limited edition PHO Sweet Skunk from Roji Concentrates lol. Sadly he's leaving Canada for now till the laws are changed to do legal r&d on processing in the states.

I think its more preference what consistency people like I've seen shatter that was easily better than some saps, sugar waxes (all nug runs from very high quality processors in canada). I think a lot of people perceive shatter as having less terpenes because its crystalline consistency is intact and not releasing a aromatic terps into air. We too have processors that make only sugar waxes/overshatter in Canada.

For taste/terpenes with hydrocarbon extractions i still haven't seen any thing more terpy than PHO, Pure pane can be purged at very low temps compared to other mixtures. Rojis PHO is so much more terpy than other processors in Canada you'd think he was adding terpenes into it. Its not live material either he slowly cold cures all his flower and other collectives flowers. Most of his PHO runs are a shatter but some are a sugar wax. A lot of good processors in canada but he was easily the best a pioneer in the Canadian market he will be missed:cry:. Never had anything like HTFSE yet though.

Edit: 75-80 cad for Sap, Shatters from Heavenly Daze but his cultivar kinda makes sense to charge so much Seedsman haze, Congo, Sweet Skunk. His oz's come in glass jars and are 270-360cad.

Since Roji is setting up shop in Cali hopefully Chase can do a review! I'd love to see how some of our Canadian extract makers compare. I never got to try the sweet skunk but made sure to keep some Roji OG for the head stash.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the terps brother!
I have seen at least 3 or more 'pure' terps on the market in CA, so far. Cuban growers have theirs...too afraid to ask how much $$$$$(looks like it might be $75 for 0.3g?) https://weedmaps.com/dispensaries/concentrate-leader#/menu/cuban-grower-terpenes. Tree terps using steam distillation, though I dont' remember if I could find those in So. Cal, or only up north.

Edit: 2nd post merged: @Chase, if you were in the LA area, or a way to get you some of these I can get a dabbable portion 4 you 2 try & review? There is this Friday, Dec23, another secretsesh event in LA, with the final cup being in Jan'17 in Las Vegas.

https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/secretsesh/?hl=en

https://www.instagram.com/secretsesh_LA/?hl=en (eventbite tickets in the link @<

SpOiled_Patients collective is a sponsor of the secret cup, so you could try their terp sauces there, all with maybe Guild Extracts ice wax, pure THCa crystals.

The Chalice ppl are doing a 2day festival for NYE in Victorville, but that's too far for me to go.

Then there is the big Dabathoncup3 @NOS in San Bernadino Feb17, I'm reg'd to go to.

https://www.instagram.com/dabathoncup/

I have Holywater Larry OG, 71%THC, but only listed as 5% terps on the label. 4g, I got @Greenwolf (sold-out now) a few months ago, the BT told me the GG#4 Holywater extract was 20%+ terps, and very liquid; compared to this Larry OG, which is like 0W motor oil, with some 'sugar' as part, though the granular part is seemingly becoming more liquid with time. I'll post some pix later, many of you have already seen these b4 on IG or other photo sharing sites.

The SpOiled terp sap & sugar err sandwiched between ground herb + various flower rosins of various consistencies, made me cough the most for the 1st 4-5 draws off my Crafty. Then as effects set in? or terps have already been completely vaporized...not much coughing/lung irritation. Interesting the Holywater barely irritates my lungs...not enough terps? Differing terp concentrations?

Edit: 3rd post: Forgot to mention W.E.E.D also has Matt Rize ice waxes, as well as Bubbleman, as well as super expensive Cubangrowers. Some producers "dry sift" @$150+/g, they have pictures on weedmaps. For Chase, if you have any friends in Goleta/Santa Barbara area, delivery only up there SB Buds, has good very good prices, and good selections, those Higher Ground products: https://weedmaps.com/deliveries/b-u-d-s-sb#/menu/

some more higher ground this week, this time a fresh frozen Sherbet rosin. Blue River Terps next week!
@ccchase420 - As always, thanks and please keep making these reviews.

Just wondering....did you change your lighting or video resolution on this last one. Just looked different to me, darker with more (almost too much) contrast. I'm no video producer and please don't take this as a criticism. I was just wondering if anything changed in your production set up?

Poor guy's holding up that channel solo.
Absolutely and its a LOT of work to produce and edit them as nicely as Chase does. And, this is like the 30th weekly episode in a row.

But he has been pretty consistent in getting Terpy Tues out on Tues, so I thought a friendly inquiry as to his well being wouldn't be out of line.

Cheers

Ya, relax and take some dabs of that deep honey, exquisite looking, gooey god-sent goodness and enjoy.

Us poor slobs in non-legal states will just patiently (NOT) wait for our first dabs...... :(

Maybe 2017 will be the lucky dabalicious year????

lol as many have mentioned above, Chase has done a stand-up job holding up the CCC on his own for the latter part of this year. I hope he is rewarding himself with a much-earned break now :D

@ccchase420 - wishing very happy holidays to you and yours man! :peace:
Looking forward to seeing him review the terps on his return :leaf:

Also to my buddy @MinnBobber: concentrates have never been easier to DIY (damn if it wasn't much harder when I started out a few years ago - that rosin tek was a game changer!) - I say step up to the plate brother! You know I'm always happy to lend advice ;)

I was laughing with a buddy just the other day at how 'literally any idiot can make high quality extracts as good as top shelf Cali dispensary bho with rosin tek now'. Not that you guys are idiots of course, but take this as meaning that even the stupidest of your friends can be set up with an appropriate rosin press and trusted to get something dabbable and delicious without killing themselves in the process!

It is nice to see the most medically effective way of consuming cannabis by inhalation (concentrates) becoming easier for patients to make for themselves.

I've also seen what looked like very shitty mexi-brick style bud squish out some good oil so don't worry about not having good enough flower in prohibition land! You'd be very surprised at what you might find if you give it a try (assuming you haven't already from your above post) :D

I know I spend a lot of time talking about how essential the very best quality of flowers are for my concentrates but that is purely in reference to full melt production. Good rosin can be made with much lesser flowers and at worst, I find one might just get less yields if the flower isn't as good!

Thanks for the offer @herbivore21 ! In the future I hope to try rosin tek and will certainly need help to make sure it goes right. I might have tried already but my "CO under an oz stash" had to originally last one year but that has stretched to 2 years. When stash expands a little, then I'll be more able to try.
I did look at arbor presses in craigslist LOL but didn't want to suffer the verbal abuse from my wife--- why the flock did you buy this contraption???

It's amazing to see what chase demos on his shows------jealous----that should be legal everywhere.
Peace to all
