Phattpiggies Wood Shed

Many vaporizers are soulless, but Vapcap brings some of that unique smoker flair to the vapor world. My uncle used to carve pipes out of deer horn. Very nifty to bring back some of that handcrafted art feeling to

VAPCAP - The handcrafted Vaporizer with a soul.

I think an antler vapcap sounds great. Can that be done humanely? I just googled it...
I believe they naturally drop the antlers in autumn, could be mistaken though.

Bucks shed their antlers once a year. Sometimes you come across them in the woods.

I've looked, de ja vue, at horn, bone and antler pen blanks as well as antique cigarette holders of the same materials and they all look great.
I think they may need to be treated like a pen blank, by the look of it, and may need a brass sleeve glued inside of them. I'll keep doing some research into them, the water Buffalo looks really nice when it's finished.

If there wasn't any material safety concerns then some of the stabilized wood or even acrylics could be used. I would love to find a way of to incorporating one of these blanks into a stem.

That snake/wood combo looks well nice.

@Stevenski not rude at all and I would never take it that way, if I had the disposable then it would be going into buying tips and caps.

@invertedisdead Phattpiggie stems on the Dynavap site, who knows at this moment time, one day perhaps.

@myfairladay I'm waiting on a Tiglassy (and a bocote dynastash) ordered a few weeks ago, and I've already discussed some items with @phatpiggie.
So yeah, I haven't even USED a vapcap yet and I'm imagining having several in my future.

yeah same here, haven't even got a vaporiser of any sort yet! i think i have issues, its literally the first thing that comes into my mind when I wake up (could be cos it tends to be the thing I'm looking at for hours whilst baked before bed!)

If the uk shop post my OG (and dynastash) tomorrow then it should be with me by thursday!! yay!! please god!! hahaha

@phattpiggie well I'm gonna email dynavap today with a few Qs so i will mention that i will be getting some stems of yours (assuming you're happy with that of course since I haven't actually asked you directly yet!) Love those pics you just posted.

I wondered about the safety of acrylics. My spouse is a wood turner, but refuses to work on small items such as pens, etc. so getting him to do any turning for VC bodies is out of the question. However, I had been perusing some of his turning product catalogs, and there are some spectacular heady acrylic blanks available for pens. Would the air flow coming through the new tips eliminate the need for the carb, thereby making the airpath uncontaminated? Just curious...

@nickdanger it's an awkward one when materials safety comes into it. I couldn't turn any plastic and say it was 100% okay.
All the acrylics, stabilised and fancy hybrid blanks when used for pens are glued to a brass sleeve then turned. I've been looking for a very thin wall SS tube.
It's any heat from the tip transferring into the plastics that may cause a bit of off gassing. I am sure there would be an epoxy out there for the sleeve that would cope but I've steered clear for now.

My original 1st gen tip transfers a lot of heat into the stem, 2nd gen one does the same but it has the older silicone O rings on it.

I'm in line like every one else out there waiting for a magic green envelope so once it arrives I'll know more on the carb situation but it would eliminate one concern.
There's also the worry that someone would torch a plastic stem but it's there no matter what material. I've not heard of anyone burning yet, imagine the smell off a horn or antler stem if it got torched.

If your other half won't turn you some stems then perhaps he could give you some lessons. A pen lathe doesn't take up much space.

LOL, I have enough "creative" things to occupy my time and space! I plan on letting the experts such as you come to my rescue for VC outfits. I will send you a request for some customs when my bank account is back to a comfort level from the holidays.

A bit of VC wood porn for you folks, sorry about the background noise.

My all time favorite stem, so far, it is the most stunning little object I've made and I will defo be doing a few more of these.

Damn those pothead twists(your ability to name things never and I mean never gets old) almost plays tricks on my eyes. I could probably be hypnotized if I stared long enough as you turned it. I wish I had even 10% of your skills Phatts. Your thread is at the very top of my must see thread list.
Hope your family had a very merry Christmas and that you all will have happy new year.

Many thanks @HD Springer and the same to you, it'll be 2017 before we know it. I spot Barley twists all over the place and they appear in all sorts of other stuff I've been looking at.

@Mr. Me2 that one was done to order but I will be doing some more, the square shape really sets the burr off, it's also got an iridescence about it that you can see in the VC thread video.

@nickdanger they are all too long but I can make them any length.
Or you could always go all 'Kathy Bates' on your other half.
I'm sure if he woke up, legs bound and chocked apart he'd make you anything.

I like the length on the square stem, but will most likely have you make me a twist body to fit on my Omni.

And as for the Kathy Bates thing, sleeping tigers are best left alone!

I did make the lid but it was originally made for a 5 fin tip, the same Crab Apple wood just dyed. It's wasn't a snug fit and my thoughts were to use some kind of cord to hold it in place. There will be another lid made as it's just too nice not to see finished.
