I just went through the August 2016 federal denial of rescheduling cannabis as Schedule II. As I suspected, the issue is effectively hopeless because America imposed its puritanical will on the world with the draconian "Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs" in 1961. That broadened the Paris Convention of 1931, which in turn stemmed from the 1912 Opium Convention, that was part of an unprecedented move to ban all intoxicants in the early 20th century. Then in 1971 psychedelics were banned. In 1988 any chemicals used to make "drugs" were added, and asset forfeiture introduced, putting the final touches on the wealth and power of the bureaucracy we have today.

As a party to these treaties, the federal govt. says it cannot violate them, being locked into the framework they themselves created. Countries like Portugal that have basically legalized personal use maintain formal adherence to the Single Convention. For the Feds in the US it comes down to circular technicalities.

The petition to at least move it to schedule II (where we find meth, coke, strong opiates, etc) is denied because Cannabis is listed under the Single Convention, so it could only fall under our Schedules I and II. They say they can't move it to Schedule II because it meets criteria for the most diabolical Schedule I. How?
  1. The fact that people use it outside the medical establishment proves that it's abusable.
  2. Its absence from conservative medical practice proves that it has no accepted medical use.
  3. The lack of dosage and concentration standards proves that it cannot be used safely even under medical supervision.
They throw in some more lines of shaky reasoning to fatten their stance. For instance when it was shown that monkeys would not self-administer THC, unlike e.g. coke, they designed a special training program so they would. The FDA predictably recommends more studies, and in the interim supports the status quo. An 80 page masterpiece.

They hate cannabis because we can grow it here. The trade dynamics of acquiring opium for pharmaceutical companies supports our military and other pseudo infrastructure owned and funded by a tiny select group of incredibly wealthy tyrannical families.

Yes, specifically the new large, higher resistant donuts @Bad Ocelot was talking about.

Cool. Just got my v3 in last week, I assume that mine are the higher resistance. As soon as mine came in, I put on the smaller donut and have just been using the painting tech for loading. Set tcr to 170 and 22w---440-460 temp on my cuboid. Very happy so far. Going to have to rebuild it soon just to try the large donuts and your settings recommendation.

I'm still tweaking with those numbers. Just note that the first few 2 loads will probably taste a bit burned. After the donut gets gunked up a bit, those setting start to shine a bit better. I'm thinking about using maybe a different setting for the initial use for clean donuts but we will c

@Steven "probably taste a little burned"? A little? with those setting, DUDE! I can relate, but if you were running a nukular powerplant, you'd have melted down all the way to China by now
Haha maybe I was being a bit modest. But tbh after 2 loads, those settings don't give me a horrible burned taste really. Sure when the donut is freshly cleaned, those settings may be a bit too hot, but it's perfect for me once the donut is gunked slightly. The donut actually barely, and I mean barely glows red when the donut is a bit used. It's far smoother than when I used to use vw mode on the older versions of the dt donut. It's also comparable to what I used to use on the v2.7 tcr 245 with 420F at 11w. We'll, the new settings are a bit hotter than the v2.5 experience but I'm still tweaking my numbers and am actually pretty happy with what I am using so far. The new settings are a bit hotter but it pushes out a bit more vapor as well (no suprise right)

@Steven "barely glows red" is a pretty different way to use these from what (I think) most of us are doing here, and now I understand why your settings are always so Xtreme! I mean we're simmering in the wok, and you're like dropping the frogs into the deep fat fry ;-)

Barely glowing red for many metals is something like 950 degrees Fahrenheit.

Seems you're driving these more like a nail, which goes to show there's more than one way to catch a cloud.

I guess you can't prevent burning by flash sublimating like on a Titanium & Torch rig, and that's why you push the watts, to get over the hump ASAP. Maybe you'd want some way to drop the load onto the donut only after it gets hot enough, like those quartz bucket thingies?

How about using the pre-heat mode to blast it up to temp, like on the v1.03 firmware on the Pico?

How efficient is it for you? For comparison, assuming that 10 mg of THC is a useful dose to someone with low tolerance, and so it takes 20mg of a 50% oil for that, minus losses, residue etc, so maybe 40mg, meaning a gram could deliver > 25 hits, and that works for me. Using your power method, how many do you get out of a gram?

BTW Anybody know how to go back to Pico version 1.01 that shows the wattage in TC mode instead of that useless voltage display in the lower left corner? [later] Found all 4 versions here

http://www.eleafworld.com/softwares-for-istick-pico/

The 3 updates are IMHO idiotic, and if you want the Pre-Heat you have to accept the other uselessnesses. I'm going back to 1.00. Whew.

If only they added something useful, like showing real time resistance, anything. Love how if you enter the firmware updater and exit without updating, the device is left in no-firmware land. Fortunately it can be updated again.

@fernand. I guess I should've been more clear. I mentioned this on earlier posts, but with those settings, a slightly dirty donut will barley approach a glimmer of a glow after a minute and a half to 2 minutes of continuous power. To detect the glow I have to go into my closet and put my eye close to the donut to see a feint glow. Yea these numbers are way higher than many others here, but the end result isn't as crazy as you r making it out to be. I also only replied to someone struggling with vapor production. I wouldn't have answered with these settings with someone asking for pure smoothness. I also don't do things just because everyone else is doing it. I do what I like for me by finding out for myself. Try the settings or not. No sweat off my back. Was just trying to help someone with vapor production, something I lack very little of. I guess it's subjective, but I still taste all the different strains in my wax at these settings still.

I remember I worked it out to something like a dollar a hit the way I portioned it out. So I get around 30-40 hits per gram of shatter

Great conversation, and excellent point above. These guys are indeed very flexible, they can be used many ways. Naturally, some individuals are going to favor those ways differently than others?

Given our goals differ, this is really to be expected. Same as with cars, there's no 'best fit' of the compromises that suit all people. No 'all things to all people'? I'm not a Volcano guy, but I bet without looking there's some variance in such opinions there as well?

Unless we share a common goal there can be no 'secret formula' for us to discover since individuals will still see the results differently. Sippers and Cloud Chasers not withstanding. Some of us are caught up in the idea of TC, small loads, clean flavor and no chance of 'burning the oil'. Elsewhere on the bus we have our own @SameOldTim and 'those guys' dumping larger loads in and cranking it up until it screams. And 'more power to 'em', just not for me. It's a truly useful tool that can bridge such a gap I think. We're fortunate indeed.

And then there's the guys in the very back of the bus, the ones all bunched up that keep cheering? I don't want to know what that's all about..........

It falls to each man (or woman) to experiment to find their best techniques. No "I read it on the web". Sage wisdom here is, at best, a good suggestion, not the easy answer some seek. The 'best way' is too subjective for that I think.

As Dan Rowan replied to Dick Martin's suggestion that he let a computer select his mate, "I'd rather mix the Martinis and screen 'em myself". Tough job trying out different techniques but it's the only path that leads to the Palace of True Enlightenment.........

Merry Christmas to all.

Had an amazing snowboarding trip on Christmas and the dt v3 made it all that much better. I was able to load and use it anywhere and everywhere basically (not indoors cmon), even on the lift. Pre rolling loads always help. Use gloves to roll em if u need to but for out and about loading, I think it's a must. I usually pick up stable shatter so this isn't a hard/messy task. The shatter in the picture was a bit degraded to a sugary shatter but was still very easy to manage. One of the tips of my tools broke off so now I just stick it in the shatter container to use. This setup paired with gravity makes loading ridiculously easy.

Vape Donkey 650

All vape, no smoke please.
Nice work there Steve, looks like you're ready to vape some 20mg BBs

I've been lucky enough to try out some of Matt's newest pieces. Hopefully Steve has got the short-neck 18mm male glass adapter for his hydratubes now? I got one of these short neck female adapters that work with my dab bulbs and I took a few vids breaking it in today

This one above is some silver haze - OG dry crumbles on the D-0 matrix bubbler

This here is some cheap hawaiian-afghan sugary shatter on the mini klein 14mm rig

The last 2 are on cuboid minis

Now some co2 loads on my non-tank donuts. Some very sappy light colored green crack co2, evic vtwo mini. This is with the tall-neck glass adapter that Matt gave me a few weeks ago but this is my first time showing it. Hopefully alot more of the new short-neck glass adapters will be available soon so I can eliminate the additional glass booster seat on "Dabitha" my single honeycomb rig to make the all the pieces line up nicely.

And then a reclaim hit. I actually got like 8 puffs on that co2 load.

Also you can see lurking in the background of them videos is a prototype of the 2nd gen DC dry herb atty. I've only had a couple of sessions on it so far and I'm still trying to dial in the loading / drawing / TC settings for the best performance, but having it stay in TC mode seems to be no problem so far.

Definite advantages are the new mouthpiece, which radiates heat better and doesn't get quite as hot as the MP on the 1st gen, and it also prevents herb from flying out of the bowl when you hit it or needing to use an extra screen or something.

aGLnopp.jpg

And of course, you can take it apart and rebuild it to clean it or replace the zig-zagged heater element, if needed, now.

I'm testing it on this Evic VTC dual that my friend asked me to buy for him at his request. He hasn't come by to claim it yet so I'm breaking it in for him. :D Seems like a decent mod for a 2-cell, but the battery door seems suspect if it is dropped. A silicon skin would help with that.

crtLT4n.jpg

i made an improvement that prevent leakage
double layer on the bottom and double layer wrap around
use any micron ss screen

I've been thinking about possible ways to narrow that gap around the edge of the donuts and the cup, finally we got someone showing 1 method?

The SS screen on the bottom prevents leakage, but it doesn't short out the contact on the donut or change it's measured resistance? I haven't had too much of a problem with oil leakdown so this seems less than necessary for me.

A ceramic ring or spacer would be the best thing to put around the edge of the donut, but I don't know where to source that. Your double wrap (folded over?) mesh around the edge of the donut seems like a plausible option instead of that. I should try that next time I clean and re-assemble a donut. Thanks, @dabselector

sorry, i forgot. is need to burn\torch the bottom screen to oxidize. it prevent short and TC work perfect. just same way if you use ss screen as wick in e-liquid atomizers

i have problem with leakage because oil come into internal post thread

Don't get the full kit.

I bought the full kit from Matt and didnt think much of the iStick. I dont think I had that particular model. I was thinking of staying with Joytech or the Hohm Wrecker G2.

Something that would let you save profiles would be nice.. that way when switching between the DT, Siaonora, Orb 4, etc, I could just use presets instead of having to reprogram the mod every time.

If you still have the Pico, you may want to reach out to @OF
Although I beleive he's covered it already in this thread, he can get you up and running regarding proper settings.
He did for me!

@PoopMachine If you had the eLeaf iStick Pico (and not another model) I'm surprised you didn't like it. I just got one for my son at a decent price from this vendor, fast delivery, and it appears to be authentic.

If you get another Pico, I'd say do not upgrade the firmware, the pre-heat is of no real use IMHO, and the other "features" are nothing but dummified display stuff. It then took me a while to get the firmware back to the better original 1.00. I love the pocketability of the Pico, it's a cutie.

But the Joyetech eVic mini VTC is my favorite all around, and even their firmware updates make sense. The Joyetech shows the coil resistance in real time, you can see it rise as it heats, and knowing the resistance at temperature is essential if you're trying to figure out the best TCR to use for a given heater.

They do make newer models, including the Basic with built-in battery, which is smaller, and a dual battery model. Built-in batteries lose capacity over time, and a dual battery model is unnecessarily bulky for vaping our stuff. The single 18650 can be charged pretty well in the mod in a pinch, and the 75 watts are way ample for our needs. The interface is clear enough to quickly switch the Joyetech for different purpose. It's my go-to mod, I can count on it for everything from e-liquid to different donuts. I've gotten to know it, in the Biblical sense, as it's been through some adventures in 2016. I've re-glued ALL the lid magnets, rebuilt the contact housing and even torn it down to the board level when it got flooded. It keeps going.

They appear to have some degree of memory. It seems that it remembers settings for particular "metals". When I go from donut M2, to Ti for a RTA, and SS316 for my Plumeveil RDA, it always seems all set up, but I'm not really sure beyond that.

Once again, sound advice from a Wise Guy........ The TC40W that was 'all the rage' is an OK mod I think, but you have to lie WRT temperature (ask for an unrealistic temperature to get 400F or so) and it slamming on at 40 Watts isn't cool (OK, bad pun, but it wasn't 'right'). The Pico (and it's lik) fix that. Or rather those.

I also think the eVic is more useful in learning, but not as convenient for routine use as the Pico I think. I'll shift the atty to a Pico or a couple of new 'repackages' I think are worth a look. The first is Nano, which is much smaller than Pico. Yeah, I know nano is 1000 times bigger than Pico, really, 1/1000th of mili and all......I guess they didn't get the memo. Anyway, a smaller Pico with self contained battery. It's only 1100mAh but that is plenty for lots of stuff. "Only" 40 Watts, too, again 'a great plenty' IMO. Lighter, easier in the pocket, cheaper. At twenty bucks, when it dies, it dies.......

Also I'm enjoying the Aster, a restiled version with 18650 under a magnetic latched back, but streamlined (for instance the Go button is slanted) in a surprisingly natural to use shape. It ends up a bit taller than the eTech but is much 'easier on the hand' and natural to use.

All share the same 'look and feel' programing and using wise.

Here's the original TC40W, Pico and Mini side by each.....time to dig out the camera and take another family snapshot (maybe Pico, Nano and Aster):

I prefer the joyetech firmware myself, just ordered an eleaf aster though, it may split time between nicotine & my DT's though, ha. The joyetech VTC basic has everything you want in a really small package. At some point I may pick up a vtwo mini, but don't really need to buy another mod at the moment, ha.

I think the wismec mods with TCR work well too, haven't used any DT's with my Reuleaux in a while, but that's mostly due to it's size. Any of you guys tried that Reuleaux mini? The red & black would probably look sharp with a black 3.0

Just saw eleaf has a recessed tank version of the aster somewhat similar to the tesla stealth. The stealth mod with customizable tcr is definitely appealing. DAMN ALL THESE DEVICES!! I'm trying to keep a little money in my wallet... :bang:
