I'm about to pick up a fw4. With someone with sweaty palms should I worry about it getting messed up by the moisture and warping the wood?

No. The finshed FW4 has like 3 coats of tung oil which is a penetrating oil. Even unfinished walnut is not going to warp from a little surface moisture. That said, there are electronics inside so you probably don't want to see if it can float. ;) Nothing to say you can't rub a little beeswax into it for xtra protection though. I use Burt's Beeswax lip balm myself because it's cheap, widely available, smells nice, is easily applied (and I already have some). :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I only have enough for the unfinished. Does anyone have a picture of the unfinished fw4. The ones pictured in the website looke like they are all finished.

Anyone else seeing that gorgeous ebonized walnut on the website?

also I've taken a liking to native mode, still temps 1/2 only.

The real question is how are people dealing with reclaim build up in the cooling unit

Edit: the shittiest post lol. Not enough credit to how amazing that dark walnut looks

You know, I've been going native too, I like it better than the CU I think.
I think I like the larger opening.

I like to do my first draw at 4 (I think someone here suggested this, maybe for the FW3?) Then immediately down to 2 for a few draws and back up to 3. I feel like I get a good number of rips out of one capsule and never close to combustion. I am wary of level though.
I think I did one capsule at 4 to see how dark I could get the abv.

My fw3 is unfinished and I think I like the feel of that better, so there may be an unfinished 4 in my future sometime.

I've been trying native mode as well recently when I use the CU and I think I prefer it to using the glass tube. Although perhaps it doesnt cool the air quite as much? (I'm not sure, it's not obvious.)

But it feels more comfortable to me to use it native. I mean it isn't like the glass tube doesnt work - it just feels a little awkward. I'd say it feel kinda like when you decide to drink coffee out of one of those little stirring straws - sure you can get the coffee into your mouth that way, but do you really want to drink the whole cup through that straw?

Simple is the way
Personal preference but I must say I also prefer native mode. I like higher temps 3-4 usually, unless I'm tasting a new flower or have some cotton and shatter loaded. Then its lv2 and I take that road all the way to terp city then finish on 4. The CU works great, it does it's job and does it well, but like @hagbard said it's bit awkward enjoying the entire coffee that way.

Good to know about shatter at lv2 -> 4. was curious about how to approach concentrate w this. Probably pretty nice to preload soaked cotton in the mouthpiece+holder and just rip in native mode... Why bother with annoying to refill epen then? I gotta grab some concentrate and see how it goes!

also, maybe I'll try starting on 3/4 now that I have completely dulled my tastebuds to this flower I got last week lol.

I could post a pic of my battery thing but I assure you it's flush. I may have been incompetent (and rly stoned) when I fuckd with the first unit I killed after it broke, but I'm not dumb... :<

I'm starting to realize my FW4 has made my grasshopper kinda obsolete.

It's a little bigger, but it provides much of the same function as the hopper, with better taste, more consistent results, and better battery life. The capsule system makes it easy to refill on the go.

I'm starting to get great results with it and water, too. Listening for the whistle makes finding the right draw speed easy.

I really enjoy using the cooling unit but I don't think it's really necessary. Even on heat level 4 which is pretty much the only setting I use. The mouthpiece is plenty cool enough.

That's good to hear about the cu. was really debating on Getting it or not. Decided not to.

Quick question. How long did it take from when you ordered to them shipping it. Hoping to get mine before xmas. Ordered sunday night.

Hi all,

Just got my FW 4 and charged up an LG H2 battery (bought from Amazon).

My unit doesn't seem to turn on. I'm putting in the battery correctly (small circle is positive) and holding the button for several seconds, but I can't to seem to get any response from the unit.

If I put the battery in backwards, I get a constant buzzing that doesn't stop, but does start to warm the device.

Anyone experience anything similar? Do I need to send my unit it?

Now I've used the FW4 for about 2 weeks. I'm pretty happy with it. I'm still figuring out how to use it best and where it fits in with me. I need to use it with some better flowers, and I still want to try it as a portable vape, which is why I really bought it.

It's mostly working quite well. The only thing that is a little strange (and I think I saw some others mention things like this) is I get inconsistent 'buzzes' when I take a first draw after setting or changing the FW4 temp settings. I think the instructions are to set temp, take a pull to start the oven, then wait several seconds before taking your first draw. With mine, when you set or change the temp by clicking 1-4 times, the FW4 responds with the same number of buzzes back (that part is fine). But then, when I take the pull to start the oven, it often doesnt give me a response until I do it 2 or 3 times. This happens often, whenever I first set or change a temp setting of the oven. After that, things usually proceed as expected.

Not really complaining since it all seems to be working anyway. Mainly I'm just curious if this happens to others the same way. Also wondering whether the FW4 really needs that first pull to start the oven, because even though I am often not getting the haptic response, it seems like the oven is warming up anyway.

Hagbard Celine,
All the suggestions for batteries on the firewood website seem to be 'unprotected'
Can you get 'protected' high drain batteries strong enough to power the FW4? they sound safer.

The unit itself requires no cleaning, but the capsules do. I'd say they're harder to clean than say, a log vape stem because you can't just soak em in alcohol. You gotta use a Q-tip with alcohol or something similar. But the screens can be removed and cleaned separately like any other screen.

Cooling unit glass is easy too, remove silicone and soak in alcohol.

I soak mine every week or so for just a few minutes and they clean very easily (yes, I know, some think it's a bad idea...haven't seen any issues with the capsule for my FW3 either). At some point, my happy little method may come crashing down but so far, so good.

Well this is starting to look enticing. I want a a convection vaporizer with good battery life. Swift pro scared me away for the battery issue.

I assume that cooling unit does a good job on cooling

Yeah it works ok, but the glass is really small diameter (think MFLB stem) and sticks out a little bit. Works fine without the glass and is preferred by some (OK, me...;)). On lower settings native works fine, and of course the silicone mouthpiece fits into most 14 F glass so you have all kinds of water options (If there is a recessed F 14 maybe not though; two of my pieces won't work).

The other comment I wanted to make after using the FW4 for a couple weeks was regarding how much material to load.

Like I said, I am still tweaking things, but typically I have been loading about 1/2 to 3/4 of a capsule. This is probably about double what I typically load into a stem for the HI or UD log vapes, (it's maybe about the same amount that I load into the mflb though). Because I use about 2X material over the log vapes, I probably will continue to use the FW4 mostly as a portable rather than my go-to daily. However, this doesn't bother me in the slightest, as the reason I bought this was to use as a portable vape. It's really what I expected, but I wanted to throw that out there.

I am assuming people think it's a "bad idea" because of the alcohol breaking down the silicone. Is there a safety concern with fumes or something or is it all about longevity?
