The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

I just want to check in and get some thoughts on how I'm using the extreme q.

So, I didn't buy any mods (the shipping to Canada is a bit killer unfortunately) but what I do to ease the tax on my lungs is this:

I pack the elbow screen with the requisite grind of herb (I use a bit over 1/8th tsp per go) and set that in the cyclone. Now I'm sure this loses some of the heat, but at 200 a drop in 10 probably wouldn't hurt.

I then use my spare elbow on the other side of the tube, hooked up to a pretty standard bong.

I've been doing this and noticed I have fewer canker sores inside my mouth, and using hot water has helped my mouth stay moist and helps my lungs.

I would love to find a Canadian option for the tubing because man do I hate it when the PVC goes wacky and whips my glass around. It doesn't happen often, but when it happens GOD does it suck.

Any other improvements? I'd rather keep it cheap with Christmas and all.

Thanks much.

You are far better @andsoitgoes to pack the basket as normal & lift the temp by 5-10c. That said if you don't want to stump up for shipping (I know all too well) maybe try this & a pack of screens to get you started? That will get your herb closer to the heater & is worth the $15 or so it will cost you. If you have a head shop locally pop in & get a 18mm F/F adapter & some screens to fit. Outside a genuine @DDave kit it is the best upgrade you can make along with getting a silicone whip.

Hey everyone. I don't have enough permissions to start a new thread, so I'll post this here. I've had my EQ for quite some time now. Although I don't know the exact time frame, it's over 5 years. I know I don't have many posts on FC, but the posts that I do have reflect my absolutely love for this vaporizer. Earlier this year, I inquired asking if it was ok that I left my EQ on all the time. At that time, the general consensus seemed to be that it was alright. This is something I've done without instance pretty much since I've had the EQ. Well last night, I took a drag from it, and instantly realized something was wrong. It tasted terrible. Like a mixture of burnt medicine and another odd smell that I didn't recognize. I realized it was something in the EQ that was burning/melting. Needless to say, I was quite shocked and worried I just inhaled something I shouldn't have. (I don't know if I inhaled or immediately blew it back out). I proceeded to take out the whip from the cyclone glass, and noticed that my medicine was burnt. "Fuck Combustion" was my first thought upon seeing my beautiful medicine burnt. After the removal of the whip, I noticed that there was smoke emanating from inside of my EQ and an odd smell. I couldn't tell if it was a plastic like smell or something else, but it definitely didn't smell right. Something in there burnt and now I'm thinking it's time to throw the EQ away. :(

My questions are to you wonderful knowledgeable people:

1. Have any of you experienced anything like this? I do admit that I leave my EQ on for hours upon hours at a time. It's usually on from the time I get home from work until I fall asleep. Sometimes I even leave it on throughout the night while I sleep just in case I need a little extra help getting back to sleep. So in an average 24 hour period, it's on anywhere from 4 to 12 hours a day.

2. Does anyone know exactly what is burning, and if you do, is it fixable?

3. Arizer really should put a clear warning on these things warning of potential issues like this.

4. I am not bashing my EQ or Arizer. They are a FANTASTIC company. But I am pretty bummed out about losing my favorite vape. I own several others, including other products from Arizer, but the EQ was/is my absolute favorite and the only one I use. I suppose I'll send Arizer and email and see if they'll send me another one as a replacement. It's worth a shot, right? I have heard their customer service is second to none.

ETA: I leave is strictly at 180 C, but in the past have gone as high as 200 C.

ETA again: I forgot to mention that the display was messed up and just a blank screen, and that the only way I was able to turn it off was to unplug it. The buttons were completely unresponsive.

DON'T THROW IT AWAY......

I'm not sure exactly what your problem is without seeing it, but the eq is almost immortal... most issues can be easily fixed...

Are you sure that some material has not simply fallen onto the heater... stinks when it happens... not just a herb smell, but a god awful chemical smell....
My mate did it once.... I simply took it apart and cleaned it, and replaced heater mesh...

Can you see any fouling on the heater????

If not, next step is disassembly....
It's really easy, id be happy to guide you through it...

The other thing it could be is the heater surround, I am aware that it does degrade over many years and lots of use... But like I said, disassembly is required to further diagnose...

Don t be disheartened, there is a good chance this is fixable....

Hi, and thank you for your response! No, I am not 100% sure material didn't fall onto the heater. However, if material did fall onto the heater, would that cause the material in the elbow to be burnt? When I say burnt, it was charred. I am not opposed to opening it up and investigating further, and would appreciate any help or advice you're willing to provide, thank you! In low lighting, I thought I could see some brown/black on the outer edge of the heater, under the heater mesh. But when I put a flashlight to it, I couldn't see the dark edges. I'll look again tonight and try to take some pictures of it.

Material combusting on the heater can char your remaining load due to the temp spike that occurs during combustion...

But it maybe worth inspecting more before you attempt a burn off...

The first stage of disassembly is real simple, and will tell you if your heater surround is perished..

Removing the heater from the surround and glass cover is stage 2...

You tube will show you visually how to dismantle, I assume...
If not I can post a guide here for you...
Just be careful with the ribbon cable...

I forgot to mention, as this happened at around 1 am when I woke up to use the bathroom, the electronic display was also messed up, and showed nothing, and I couldn't turn it off with the power button. I had to physically unplug it to shut it off. I forgot about that until literally just now. I'll still see if any material fell into it, but with it not shutting off and the display being messed up, I'm pretty certain it's fried. I sent an email to Arizer, and will let you know what they think. Going to edit my original post to reflect the display issue as well.

I contacted Arizer through their website and they asked me to do some troubleshooting. I responded by telling them the unit won't even turn on anymore, and if they still thought their troubleshooting would help. I have yet to get a response. I waited until after Christmas to post here again, but I'm starting to wonder if my unit is completely dead. When I plug it in and attempt to turn it on, nothing happens. Is my unit completely dead or should I open it up to see if it needs to be cleaned? Also, when I gently shake it, I can' hear something inside moving around.

Have you checked the power supply?

Can someone give me a tl;dr of the 'plastic near heater melting in the arizer extreme q' situation?

Sold my ol eq to a friend who is a com-buster. He is pretty keen on coming over from the dark side and has been blown away by the delicious vapor and health effects.

That's one more in the team, thanks to the trusty ol eq.

Hello guys, after trying and giving up on portable vapes, I got myself an Arizer ExtremeQ.
This is my second day, and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I set the Q to the max temp (260C) and apparently still cannot get a decent amount of heat. There's def some vaping going, but I don't think the herbs are getting roasted enough.

I tried burning some of the leftovers after a 30 minute session with the fan and there is definitely a lot of THC left in them, I would risk saying the vape is not getting even 30% efficiency on the herbs.

So do I have a expectation mismatch here of what the Q should accomplish? is this normal functioning for you guys, or could there be something wrong with my unit?

This seems a very wasteful way of burning though my stash

Hello there, are you preheating and elbow packing your eq????

If you put the cyclone and elbow on the eq, then set the temp to 230 and fan 1 for 10 mins, this should heat everything to a good operating temp..

While your eq is heating, load you basket screen about 2/3 full with a medium/fine grind....
Slightly tempted with the blunt end of the eq stir tool...

Once eq elbow is hot to the touch, turn fan off...
Drop temp to 210, insert basket screen....
Then allow 30 secs for a heat soak...

Then start your draw, start slow to build up the heat in the herb, then you can inhale a bit faster if you want, you should see vapour streaming through the elbow....

It's all about a controlled long draw. Try to aim for 10 seconds of draw...

Stir and repack basket, turn upto 230 and go again...

This should give you good clouds...

Hope this helps....

Weird question. I constantly cut my Q on and off throughout the night. Vape an hour. Wait an hour. I don't want the vapor to escape from the hose while I'm not using.

Does the vapor stay inside the hose unless you use the fan or take a pull on the mouthpiece? Or could I leave the attachment connected over the heating element until I'm ready to resume the session?

I found it made a huge difference once I got the setup from ddave.

Unless capped at the mouthpiece end, here's what will happen. Hot air will travel slowly up EQ heater, through cyclone bowl, up to elbow. From there as the vapor cools slightly and condenses a bit, it will slowing travel back down the tube and escape at the mouthpiece. Hot air rises, cold falls.

The EQ pieces are easy to separate. Would advise a nice coaster/metal ash tray/wood block of some sort near your eq. Then you can take the elbow out of the eq and lay it down.

Result will be less loss and slightly better flavor as your herb is not cooking for long periods unattended.

Going back to some earlier posts about installing screeens- I'm not sure exactly where and what screens are being installed. I may be doing something wrong. I have Ddave's mods but the only screen I use is the basket one that goes on the end. What am I missing and is it essential?

Hey @little maggie
There are screens that sit in the middle of the F/F adapters (the cyclone bowl replacements). If you only basket pack, they may help keep a few crumbs off your heater. However, if you do not wish to basket pack and wish to load the adapters themselves, then they are necessary. The screens are the flat/round screens included in the kits.

Thanks. They're the flat ones then that I always ask you to leave out. I have never managed to insert those flat screens into anything. Next time I upgrade I'll request to have them preinstalled if possible. When will your latest EQ update be?

Yep, those are the ones.

Next mod for EQ/Vtower estimated in 2 weeks. Sooner if possible. I'd be glad to pre-install a set for you. (As you can imagine, I've installed a few in my time...;))

I used to basket pack, but since getting the Ddave kit there is no need to do that anymore. The F/F adapter is so easy to load and unload. I try to keep the basket screen clean for good airflow. Works great!!

I always hated the screen system in the Extreme Q. When I got my vapeXhale I rigged an adaptor to use the vapeXhale screens. I would suggest you check how they work and buy a little glass adaptor. I retired my extreme Q completely before doing this.

Today when I got home I done what I always do which is to remove the pot pourri dish from my extreme q and put some herb on to percolate, however this time the heating element snapped off :o:uhoh::ugh::(:uhh::cuss::rant::bang: (Yes I felt everyone of those emotions all at once).

(Edited loads out as I asked a few questions)

Arizer got back to me super fast, absolutely unbelievable customer service! responded to my initial query in under an hour, once I replied back they replied again in just 4 minutes and gave me solutions, well done, what a company

When you say you snapped the element, What do you mean????
The glass heater cover???
Or the actual ceramic heater???
I'm intrigued to know how you did this by simply removing the dish...

Luckily the eq is very fixable...
