Post your decarb method here!

...years ago I had this book called marijuana potency it said preheat to 200 f(make sure oven temp is accurate) turn off the oven and put the bud on a cookie sheet covered in news paper for twenty minutes
...................................................................
Recent experiments have shown that 200 F for 20 minutes would be MUCH too little time and temp combo to decarb.
Yes, ABV does not need decarbing.

Another method for accurate temp control is placing a dry vessel with the fresh buds into simmering water (212 F boiling temp). You don't need a thermometer with the boiling water.

And another for your reference from High Times 2015 http://hightimes.com/edibles/edibles-the-scoop-on-decarboxylation/ 110 °C [230 °F] for 110 minutes, Everyone perfects their own personal methods, but lower temperatures for a longer time can yield up to 95% of your THC. So states High Times in this article. by By Sirius J May 11, 2015

I let it simmer for about 45 mins at 120 C. Seems like a similar approach compared to the dutch guys.

Can't bring it to 110C easily, though. My stoves lowest setting brings me exactly to 120C, which is fine in my opinion...

And here's a totally different method https://www.medicaljane.com/category/cannabis-classroom/cooking-with-cannabis/#cannabis-cooking-101

  • Preheat oven to 225° F / 110° C.
  • Line an oven-safe dish (or a rimmed baking sheet) with parchment paper.
  • Breaking up cannabis buds into smaller pieces by hand, place the material in the dish close together but not stacked on one another (the less unused space the better).
  • When oven is pre-heated, bake for about 20 minutes to remove the moisture (depending on the freshness of the material). Watch for the plant color to get darker (a light to medium brown shade). When it is time to remove from the oven, the material should be crumbly looking.
  • Set plant material aside and wait until it is cool enough to handle. Turn oven up to 240° F / 115° C and wait for it to preheat again.
  • When the cannabis is cooled, lightly crumble by hand and distribute evenly over the bottom of the dish.
  • Cover dish with aluminum foil, crimping the edges tight to seal and return to the oven. Continue baking for another 45-60 minutes for higher THC and 60-90 minutes for higher CBD.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool fully before removing the foil. Depending on the material you use, it may be fine enough and require no further processing. If not, you can place the material in a food processor or blender, pulsing the cannabis until it is coarsely ground. Be careful not to over grind the material, as you do not want a super fine powder.
  • Place in an airtight container (glass preferred) and store in a cool, dry place.

I'll throw another suggestion out there....something I found somewhere online (maybe on this site?). It's kinda off-topic, but I think it's important to the ultimate use of decarbed weed.

Before decarbing, put your weed in a bowl, fill it with room-temperature water (NOT cold, NOT hot), and put something on top to keep the weed under water (I use a dinner plate). Let the weed soak for an hour or two, then drain the water. Repeat this process until the waste water is nearly clear. This will remove the chlorophyll and its nasty taste, but the goodness will still remain.

I then place it in the oven at 150 degrees, until dry. Since I use a Magic Butter machine, I don't worry about fully decarbing in the oven, so you'll have to experiment with drying/decarbing time otherwise.

I use this method to make canna-butter and canna-oil. The wet hay flavor is non-existent, so even something as mild-flavored as Rice Krispie treats will taste great. You'll get a slight flavoring of weed, but analogous to adding vanilla to baked goods, as opposed to adding wet hay. If you're not already doing this, you'll almost not recognize the flavor as cannabis.

Ya ever sense I saw this post and started doing some research I was sorry I did. There's is like a zillion different methods that people have come up with to decarb their weed. Some methods were so out there I wanted to post them just for the ha-ha effect. Just to say, even a novice user who was just getting going would now who would do it this way. Just some people come up with some pretty stupid ways that are not going to work.

SousVide decarb worked for me. I then sv'd coconut oil and the herb in a bag. About 1/4 oz to 1/3 cup of frozen unrefined coconut oil. The freezing process intensified and sweetened the oil.. at least it tasted that way. It also helped out when I vac sealed the bag. 1/4 teaspoon of the end result was very strong. I took a little more than that my first time with edibles and was uncomfortably high for far too long. Once I reduced the dose it was enjoyable.

Odor was minimal until I opened the vac sealed bags. Even then it wasn't overpowering.

But I like it!
Here's a wierd question for y'all. I've just been gifted 2 lbs of the sludge that gets pried off the trimming machines. The machines get coated in whatever veg oil is on sale at the local Foo Mar to keep things from sticking. I was going to spread this sludge out on cookie sheets, cover with foil and decarb. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just toss it in the slo cooker and let it decarb in 3 litres of EVOO overnight, filter and use for donations.

The only problems I have working with this stuff is no clue about potency. I know it was a mix of Green Crack and Chemo, but without access to proper lab testing it's all a bit of a guesstimate...

Some of us have the Magical Butter Maker and we use the decarb process with the oil in the machine. The temp is 220 degrees for 1 hour, the tempreture is more precise than using the oven. Just push a button and let the machine take care of it.
Magic Butter Machine has no decarb built in

I am very worried that I will burn my goodies above 220*F so I bake at 160-180 for 3 hours and I don't let it get fully crispy. I feel like this is a newbie mistake as I'm not sure if they actually work...

Do yourself a favor. Decarb at 240 F for 40 minutes. Psychedelic Sam over at GrassCity did extensive experimentation and testing and 240 F for 40 minutes was the BEST.

Here is the link to the decarb testing vs natural decarb. https://forum.grasscity.com/threads/heated-natural-decarboxylation-testing-project.1317888/

About to buy my first MBM2e. Have never cooked cannabis before. Just ordered 30 grams of 21% indica tips from Broken Coast (Canada).

My understanding is that you need 1 ounce minimum when using MBM (Magical Butter Machine).

@sickmanfraud I will try your method of decarb but I have a question. I do not want my house to smell. I have read that covering the container that you place the bud in helps with eliminating smell as does putting your container in a turkey bag. How about doing both, covering the container with silver foil then placing it in a turkey bag before putting it into the oven. Would doing this affect the decarb process?

Also once the 40 minutes it out (assuming the 2 cover method is used) do you place the container outside and open everything up or do you leave it covered to cool off?

Any tips would be appreciated as well as favorite things to do with my decarbed ounce using the MBM.

I was thinking tincture with grain alcohol or oil possibly butter.

Did my first tincture with the MB on Sunday. George1151, not sure were your getting your info from but you can make tincture with as little as a 1/4 ounce. If you look at their tincture recipe you will see this. 1/4 ounce with 2 cups of everclear if I'm reading it correctly. https://magicalbutter.com/recipe/magicalbutter-tincture. Also I'm in your same situation. I purchased a small toaster oven, so I could do it outside. Decided to use a small tin foil pan and spread the weed over it and then tightly cover it and 240 it for 40 mins..Damn everclears powerful crap.

How did it turn out @cobra505? I'm about to attempt my first tincture as well. What ratio flower/everclear did you use?

I think I've decided on doing sous vide decarb 200 deg for 1 hr 40 min. My oven and toaster oven fluctuates 10 deg so i am a bit worried to go that route.

I really wanted the lift decarb machine but I've emailed and called them a few times with no response.

Thanks anyone for some input!

Came out horrible. Like a bottle of Nyquil. Glad I only did a 1/4 ounce. I've been getting some help from a guy over @ grasscity, funds are kind of low right now and medical marijuana prices are $400 oz. Cant grown my own. So I should have burned off over cup, probably a cup and 1/4 and I would have been good, but without boring you with more crap it turned into a bust. You have to do the 2 cups to the 1/4 ounce or it will burn out the machine. Problem is you get a tincture that is like I said above shits like Nyquil. You need to burn off a bunch of it. There's' a tread over on grasscity called "Another Tincture Thread - Try it, Youll like it, big thread almost 700 pages, good thread. tinctures all sorts of stuff, check it out.

Sorry to hear you had issues. Now I'm a bit worried. I was going to do 1 1/2 oz to 2 oz decarbed flower to 3 cups of 200 proof ethanol. Then taste the tincture and reduce as needed.

I'll look into the thread you mentioned thanks.

I am undecided on whether to make coconut oil or tincture with my new (unused MBM2e). aI do not plan on baking I want something to swallow. Looking at making caps with the coconut oil. 1/4 Oz for 2 cups everclear is about 3 times less potent than what the recipe calls for I think.

Did you try to reduce it? Then maybe add a carrier oil like mct to tone down the taste?

@George1151 - If you go with coconut oil for caps - I've had success with this recipe: http://beyondchronic.com/2011/01/how-to-make-your-own-canna-caps/ - though I think he uses a crock pot rather than the MBM. But maybe they're interchangeable, I'm not sure, I don't have either- but the process worked great using a double boiler. I got 50 caps from 4g of fresh flowers. 1 cap would get you kinda high; 2 caps, pleasantly high; & 3 caps: really whacked, my favorite! -(depending on how full or empty your stomach).

For the sous vide decarb folks is 200 at 1 hr 40 min still the best way to go? Will a foodsaver brand bag do the trick? Thanks!
