Ripped open my Gpen Elite after someone posted a photo of their knockoff Elite on Reddit with melted plastic. I wanted to make sure I wasn't breathing plastic fumes as well. I could find no evidence of melted plastic from mine luckily:

it did not want to come open nicely, so I had to use some pliers to force my way in :)

Ripped open my Gpen Elite after someone posted a photo of their knockoff Elite on Reddit with melted plastic. (...)

Although I don't own a GPen Elite, I am very curious on the outcome of those posts.

Saw the burned wires unity topic on reddit, and the following thread (most probably yours) on another unity that seemed quite different. Whats your opinon on that? DO you believe that unity with burned wires was a replica/fake unity? Whats your personal opinion on Grenco products, components and build quality? Thanks a lot!!

Cheers

When I messaged the Reddit user, he said he bought it on Amazon, from a third party seller below MSRP. So that combined with the guts looking different than mine screams knockoff/counterfeit to me.

As far as my opinion of Grenco? Overall I dislike them, they have released a lot of trash like the G Pro and bunches of cheap pens. The Elite is their only original unit and it's also their decent unit in my opinion. It does fill a small niche which is an ultra portable unit with quick heatup and fully adjustable temp. It also used to be a decent as a cheaper option to the Pax 2, however now that the Pax 2 price has dropped getting the Pax 2 over the Elite is a no brainer IMO. The Elite is definitely getting squeezed out of its small niche with units like the Pax 2 coming down in price, and cheaper (but larger) units like the Boundless CF that I prefer to use.

If the Elite comes down to $99-$135 it would be a decent option again, but as it stands now there are better units that are also a better overall value.

Buzz, have you tried the Boundless CFC yet? That one looks like the real elite killer. But I agree with you about the pax2 until it's gone forever

Only seeing that this topic is still in the upcoming and unreleased section, you can understand how much the mods care about this vape :p
Anyway, the other day I was playing around with my mouthpiece and I had a brilliant idea that works fine on the unit as well.
I replaced the built in screen with a normal one and taadaaaa vapour flow has become beautiful with much less draw resistance and of course greater effects!!
Here's how it looks like

I did the same. This screen clogs less and is easy to clean. Airflow is improved too.

Posting that we 'don't care' is somewhat irresponsible. The fact of the matter is that there are only 4 of us moderating as volunteers and we can't possibly follow every vaporizer or read every post on this forum. So in the future, if you see something that needs addressing, perhaps you could hit the report button and let us know rather than making assumptions.

My apologies @momofthegoons I did not intend to offend you guys. It was a more of a humoristic nature my post. I didn't know that the report button could have such a use as well. If you check earlier replies in this thread, it had been mentioned some months back the fact that this vape should have been in the normal section and that's why I took from there.

A quick one, why is it still in the Upcoming/Unreleased section this one?

Overall, how's this vape for you guys? I don't see any postings and of course, for some reason is still in the upcoming section....

Did I understand right that most of the G Pen Elites you can score on E-Bay for around 50/75 dollars is more than likely a cheap imitation? I know sometimes on E-Bay you can get really good deals on authentic vapes, I picked up my Arizer Air there for around $150 when most sites still had it listed for 220 to 250.

I still regret not saving few more bucks to buy the Air than having this one... Does its job but nowhere near the Air... Overall, G pen is too expensive for what it provides.. unreasonably expensive for what you're getting.

(mine is fine, I would like to disassemble only to record the process)

Sorry, I can't help. I didn't repair it myself but asked some pro. And I recommend not to disassemble it while it works, mine is falling apart now.

Was able to grab one of these units direct from Grenco for $102. USD during their 420 sale. Saw the sale listed on a site I frequent that lists deals. They also had a review which was favorable. Interesting little vape. Not sure how I'd feel paying $170 for it. Though it seems the price has been lowered in the past year to $150-ish?

Either way seems to work rather well. It's fast heating, easy to use, and the vapor is nice and potent. Though it's not super efficient with that big oven. Flavor is OK. Airflow is not great. For what I want it for, hiking, biking, and generally stealthy use while in semi public active situations, so far it's doing a very good job. Battery life is pretty darn good so far, but it's new and hasn't been recharged over and over yet. I'm sure things will change eventually as they always do with rechargeable batteries.

Anyway, reading about this vape has been an interesting exercise. Seems very love/hate. The majority I've read from people who have used the genuine product are favorable. But then there's the understandable general Grenco dislike what with their relabeling of generic vapes. Apparently there's some pretty bad knock offs out there as well that may have tarnished it's rep a bit. There's also the issue of price to value being a few higher quality/better rep/convection portables are only a stones throw away, or right on par price wise, when the Elite's at that $170. mark.

But at $102. so far I'm pretty satisfied with what it is and what it does. And I won't be too sad if it gets damaged during active outdoorsy stuff.

Hello friends. I would like to report a problem to see if any of you could offer me any opinion.I bought a GPEN ELITE about 20 days ago and when I cleaned the oven I noticed something that I suspect is a nonconformity. The yellow silicone strap (I believe to be silicone) that connects the ceramic oven to the black part of the body of the appliance seems to be loose on one side of the equipment, while on the other side it is well connected, without any gaps.Looking closely you can see that the gap is 5mm wide.
Another thing I noticed at the first cleaning was that there appeared a scratch in the form of a parallel line to the oven, and a black dot that does not come out in cleaning with isopropanol. The photos can give an idea of what I say. Has anyone had similar experience?

When I got my G Pen Elite one of the holes in the bottom of the oven was covered over with glaze. I contacted Grenco and they sent me a replacement immediately and didn't even want the defective one back, all at no cost to me. I think they will see the gap as a defect and you should get a free replacement, unless this is how they make them now.

Many thanks friend. I'll contact them to see what they say about my problem.

doly10,
hello forum first time here..
just ordered my first portable but from what i read here i'm thinking twenty bux is just too
good to be true for the Elite.
ordered it from Ali Express looks to have a round cylindrical package and is being sold as snoops G pen elite but i bet i'm going to get something with non heat rated plastic parts and it will taste like plastic.
which brings me to my next concern and is why arent the mouthpiece or other top of the oven made of ceramic also?
seems pretty stupid to put non ceramic parts on top of the oven and should be ceramic on ALL sides.
someone should throw rocks at people selling a plastic capped dry herb oven. no?
i know thats a harsh thing to say but they dont seem to mind tricking us into smoking noxious carcenogenious (is that a word?) plastic so fair is fair?

After a few weeks of using my G Pen Elite, I started to notice that the pull was becoming increasingly difficult. Upon inspecting the mouthpiece, I noticed quite a bit of damage, as shown in the photo. The plastic was melted and warped. I contacted Grenco, and they acknowledged that "Yes, that can happen". They offered to send me a new mouthpiece, but I'm of course not interested in further increasing my risk of inhaling plastic.

The G Pen Elite mouthpiece is made of PBT plastic [1]. PBT has a heat resistance of 302-392°F [2]. This is the temperature at which the plastic begins to conduct heat. It has a melting point of ~430°F [2]. The maximum temperature of the G Pen Elite is 428°F, which is quite close to the melting point. From an engineering standpoint, the normal operating temperature of the device is far too close to its point of failure. It has a load factor of 1, effectively. With such a small load factor, manufacturing variability in the heating element, the ceramic conducting element, or the plastic itself can easily result in the plastic failing, which is what you can see in the attached picture of my mouthpiece.

This is irresponsible engineering. While there's no definitive evidence that PBT is carcinogenic, the storied history of other plastics causing cancer should be cause for great concern. There's simply no excuse for the normal operation of a device to melt plastic in the airpath. People shouldn't be breathing in plastic.

So don't buy the G Pen Elite. The risk isn't worth it. In fact, don't buy any vape with plastic in the air path.

I had it and it came apart above the oven.
ok so i got that elite and its a nice well constructed device but i believe it is knockoff
one reason is no serial number and the other is i found a similar but different device in a white color roundy box like the elite but differnet size and shape but the has the exact triangle shape display panel and fonts.
i liked the thing but it would not pull air the oven vent holes were supposed to be drilled and
cleared but they just skipped that step so the run over ceramic was permitted to just block the
holes so i killed it trying to drill out the vent holes.

edit:
unexpected bonus you get a head rush trying to suck vape thru a clogged hole.
