Note: I did this with a full bowl, should I re-do it empty?
I had originally thought to do the tests empty, but I ended up always just making a session out of it so most of my test results are with herb. I don't think the small additional mass of the load makes much difference, but that probably would make me a shitty scientist, I know.

So solder the heating element to the board doesn't seem to affect warmup time (On a NEW Crafty)
It just prevents from poor connections & losses

Still, maybe it could help and enhance Craftys that have some hours

180ºC/356ºF is the default Crafty setting from the factory. So you attempt to ‘equalize’ the data such that everyone is doing the exact same test? Adding 160ºC, means final vape temp of 204ºC/400ºF for me starting at room temperature of 72F and Crafty app showing@80F +/- 5º (typical, can be a few degrees lower/higher any given day). I only use such a temperature on ‘boost’ setting. Depending on the consistency of a concentrate, I might not use much boost, with flower I rarely use ‘boost’, nearly always get well done ABV on lengthier default setting sessions.

…if you want us to add 160ºC, then we will need to either do separate timing runs just to post data, or will have to quickly bump up the default, to add above room temperature/starting temp. At least I will, others in cold ‘room’ temp environments will need to subtract from default(reset to a lower standard set temperature).

Big variable is user patterns. As we know, heat is the enemy of battery life. Do people turn off their Crafty as soon as they get the battery too warm message from the smartphone app? Or do they get annoyed like me, and simply finish the session after a few more hits, after the warning? Do users do like me, take draws as the unit is warming up past 160ºC/320ºF where from experience I know I will get more terpene in the vapor before reaching default operating temp? Do they continue to take a draw while the unit is heating from default standard setting, up to where they reach 204º / 400ºF.

I know I get the too hot battery warning well before reaching the boosted 400ºF I use as my upper limit, sometimes around 380ºF if I am taking multiple draws and getting much vapor production, turning the unit off shortly thereafter to try to keep the battery from too much heat degradation. If I wait long enough (usually need to let the displayed temp drop below 100ºF), then I do not get the too hot warning until the usual amount of heating has occurred, usually 4-10 draws @boost setting.

I usually have a pretty fully packed dosing cartridge, which I have only started using with this latest new unit shipped to me as a replacement RMA. I am hammering it in use, far more than the unit that died (likely power button failure, but just a guess) @72hrs, and I am already @52hrs on this unit & currently takes ~3:10min to hit 160ºC/400ºF on boost. You might need to require empty heating chamber to normalize all the data. Filled chamber, depending on how much restriction there is, same with dosing capsules; in theory will statistically significantly skew the results compared to lower restriction or light/micro loads in comparison…I fear. Statistically, the battery in my current use scenario, will likely fail sooner/degrade faster, than most other user patterns.

Better to also ask/require that the Crafty is on a full charge, say ***30min*** after taking off the charger. One can, and I do this all the time, charge the Crafty right after using it (has to cool down below a certain temp, haven't checked what that would be, maybe <160ºC or the unit just flashes and will not charge until lower to some firmware checking temp?)

If you charge the battery while it is already warm/hot, that will also reduce the life of the battery. If you charge only when the battery has cooled down to room temps, it will last longer/perform better on tests.


^That does not account for my dropping the Crafty into the bathtub either. Just my 2cents.

As long as the discussion is about warmup times, I don't see any reason not to discuss it here in this thread. I was probably high when I wrote that stuff about no discussion, so feel free to ignore it.;) Also, feel free to post in either thread (as you deem appropriate) as I doubt that a serious derail would occur (probably my initial fear when I was writing the OP).

Not sure it should be included as valid data pt, given my hammering on the unit. 30min disconnected from charging. 23ºC-183ºC > ~2:20min. Ambient room temp was 22ºC. Firmware on the RMA replacement from early Oct'16 is 2.10. app said 52hrs. 3rd time in I have had Crafty fail, 1st was around 30hrs, 2nd last Oct'16 was about 72hrs IIRC, and this one died <60hrs (<this is a month after I dropped it into the filled bathtub...seemed to work fine past few weeks, same performance as usual).

Purchased yesterday (sorry PIU, u snooze, u lose a potential new customer) locally @full retail.

Right out of the box, all default settings (except minor adjustment for compliance with Stu's request we add 160ºC to Crafty app starting temp.)

Fully charged for 2hrs, then removed from charging for 40min. Starting temp on app said 22ºC, and my measured room temp was the same. I put in a spent fully packed dosing capsule(don't think that would make much diff).

Firmware V0.2.10. Oddly enough when I first tried to connect the app to the new serial #, for a brief second the hrs used was @61! I said, wtFrak, it's frakking new. Then it reset to 0, lmao...like I don't have enough stress already.

1:38:99 to 182ºC, according to my iP stopwatch function. When I get the RMA unit that died @61hrs, I will do same test as above, then try to log monthly updates(I kill them ave 6mo or less). I'm really not liking how much down time I have to endure waiting for the Crafty to cool off after getting the dreaded battery too warm warning. Takes ~20min to cool down enough so I can do a reasonable amount of session, next round. Even longer to cool-down now that I'm running boost all the time for concentrates (hard hash needs highest temps ~400ºF/205ºC. So now I"m going to run them side by side, when I feel the 1st Crafty getting too warm, I'll start the 2nd and use another dosing capsule filled with same as 1st.

Other possibilities I'll share in the Crafty threads/concentrates; along with dual GH's I'm going to need to get for another reason ;p

This is a warranty replacement direct from S&B Germany, I sent mine in with a faulty vibrate.

I used it twice yesterday then it was charged overnight and removed from charger prior to the test.

Hi fellas! My Crafty works 321 hours withoriginal battery now. I still get 3 short 8 minute sessions out of one charge. I prefer to do two 15 minute sessions and then charge. Heat up time with full charge is 2:42 minutes.

I have got a question to all of you who have changed the battery in your crafty:

Can you send me a little information how to do it and which battery will be perfect? Idon't want an exchangeable battery. The crafty works great how it is built , I only want to renew the battery. Thanks for your awnser , I appreciate it!

Recently bought a secondhand Crafty with less than an hour on clock when I got it,
it was originally bought Oct '17.

I did this test once with my Mighty after 10 months of use and it was 1m:18s.
So this Crafty is not too shabby and quick enough for most of my uses.
Hope it keeps up.
