Herb Grinders

Dramma Lamma

Looks like a job for!
I can't believe I've already gotten a response from SLX Grinders on a weekend. They wanted me to send in a picture and they will examine it. Then they will send me the damaged replacement. They responded within the first couple hours - wow!

SLX responding quick and trying to make it right, will keep me as their customer.
If / when they make a 3.0 I definitely will try it out.

As another user reported, my replacement SLX parts wore out similarly to the originals, tho not as bad.

Honestly if they just made the lips where the moving parts contact and the threading be a traditional hard anodizing they would have avoided this issue in the first place.
Admittedly that dual coating process may not be easily possible.

The grind consistency, and amount of turns it takes to fully grind is very fluffy and smooth.
The hole and tooth spacing and shape is very very good IMO.

@Vapor_Eyes i received my replacement piece too for my SLX. Pretty good customer service. Hopefully the coating will hold up and we won't have any more issues. I let them know that I appreciated the great service that I have received.

So far so good with my SLX. Love how easy it is to turn, a real hand saver.

All the same, I will keep an eye on the coating. Good to know they will make it right if it starts coming off.

So far my replacement parts are going strong. I just got them so it's far too early to say for sure.

As far as pure function the SLX performs great. I really like the knurling on top, threadless screen, and tooth design. It's also machined well and the coating feels nice in your hand.

I'm still enjoying my titanium Space Case, but after trying some different strains I find the grind size is less consistent than the SLX. The Ti SC seems to produce better consistency with drier material, there seems to be more variation in size with moist material. The nonstick coating does seem to work pretty well, except for kief which sticks more than it does with the SLX.

The Space Case seems to chew through bud a little easier than the SLX. No matter how dense or moist it just takes care of business quickly. It could just be because I have the small SLX, the larger model might perform better in this regard. Either way, the large SC is fast and powerful and can handle large amounts easily, which is exactly what I was looking for! It makes a good complement to my small SLX.

Just read thread this morning and did my warranty on my first slx 2.0. I ordered both from Amazon both had visible wear in and out with the finish wearing. Going to contact them about the second since I just got the package today.

The warranty process was extremely fast, I just emailed them, they emailed me back within like 20 minutes, I went them pics, they sent me a tracking number again in under 20.

Will definitely buy a 3.0 and happy to have 2 right now as I can finally grind 2 different strains!

I've had mine for about a month now, the clipper grinder that is.. only used it 3 or 4 times cuz I mainly dab now. But this grinder is awesome and solid as a rock.

I pulled out all my grinders and tried them at the same time. The slx holds too little. It would be great if they made a deeper one. Of the others: Santa Cruz, space case and a couple I didn't retry the Kannastor still is my favorite. Curious about the lift when it comes through though I didn't realize it was a renamed clipper.

I get a lot of herb stuck after grinding that I have to poke through on my Gr8r, especially when using the fine grind plate - is that normal? Or is there a proper technique to this?

I don't know. All of mine have herb stuck. I just turn the grinder upside down in my storage container and it all falls in. On very rare occasions there's a little wad stuck that I scrape off.

Noticed that, too. I use a small brush and/or a toothpick to clean things up, but it is a bit of a PIA. Is there another plate that is less fine that they sell? I might be interested, if so.

they sell a coarse plate. I don't find it fluffy enough for enano or air or even ssv. some people like it.
I just use the fine and poke it clean with a metal pick

I find it completely depends on the material used, and how cured it is....

My herbs that are older than 6 months, leave no blockages in the holes of even the fine plate...

But if I'm vaping fairly fresh flowers, like a month old, I'll use the course plate to avoid the cleaning...

Still love my gr8tr....

@kellya86 Did you post any pics/details of the differences between your original gr8tr and your replacement?

I had my gr8tr replaced because the grinder plate unthreads really easily and then the
result is a ton of bud that does not get ground up properly.

The replacement was the same. I think the key is to clean the threads on the bottom part that holds the kief/bud and the plate and the part of the body that the plate screws into.

Little bits get stuck in all these places and then even tightening the plate does not work for long. Cleaning helps a lot to stop the unthreading. Seems like a design defect to tell you the truth.

Sorry sorry, I never made that post in the end....

And i sold the other one now, but from what I can remember....

The differences were a smaller, different 'k' logo on the top piece...

The way the top grinding section sits into the kannastor was also different, new one has a much more snug fit.

The jar section was slightly different with no gap at the top now.

And to be honest, it just felt different in my hand...couldn't quite explain it. Maybe a different batch of material used....

@kellya86 lol, no probs. :tup:

I've managed to separate the jar section of my grinder.. slightly :(
It's still together but one side is slightly loose.

Kannastor have been gr8 (lol) & really helpful so far.
They say they'll replace it with a solid body gr8tr under warranty and ship a 100 mesh easy change screen too.:clap:
(marked as a warranty replacement to hopefully avoid duty/VAT/handling fees)

Just have to wait for it to arrive now :myday:

My jar gr8tr also separated. Don't soak it in iso, I think that is what did it. It was also replaced but the unthreading issue remains if everything that screws is not pristine clean.

I like the grinder but I think it suffers from design defects.

I've never used iso on the lower jar section of mine:shrug:
I only cleaned the top section with the grinder plate for the first time last week lol
The jar section of my gr8tr began to separate after a small drop onto carpeted floor :(
