Grasshopper mouthpiece screen assembly instructions:

Rotate clicker to fix hot back end:

Hi.
My back end gets hot sometimes but I turned the clicker anti clockwise when in on position a half turn and now it is cool most of the time.

@Vapor_Eyes that trouble shooting guide is really helpful. The part about the batteries life span is interesting...100-200 cycles can come pretty quickly if you use the hopper the way I do:ko: perhaps I need some new batts...and also perhaps this is other folks issue as well if they steem roll the hopper as I do and also also perhaps this is how HL plans to supplement their lifetime warranty requests...

At least the batteries are only $7 each.

550mAH recharge rate is totally fine, although slower is always better for battery longevity. I always try to charge at 300mAH when I remember to switch my Nitecore (default is 500mAH)

I've tried at a rate of 500 and 700. What I meant though in my original post was capacity. My charger is only getting roughly 550 into the battery before it's full. Which tells me once the battery is low on 200~ mah the GH can't use it. As I said before even on lowest setting it was flashing red straight away. Here in Australia we can't get batteries just yet (hopefully next week I've heard.) I plan on ordering 3 more and having a full rotation going lol.

Yes in the USA. In Europe you can't get batteries at the moment, and they cost 14,5 €. My 5 batteries just live for 2 months. Means, I need every two month 5 new batteries.

5 batteries x 14,5 € = 72,50 € for 2 months
36,25 € for 1 months
435 € for a year

435 € are 477 $

I think this is much money. The running coasts much higher then the device itself.

Therefore I can't use the GH as a desktopvape :-(

Well that was fast... I guess now I'm feeling the full hopper labs experience: my grasshopper is combusting even on temperature 3 after showing some red and blue lights flashing. Warranty request created, now my wait begins (again). :rip:
Oh, crap.
Did you even enjoy 24 hrs of working hopper?

An update:

Yesterday I was already pretty baked and tired, but I'm pretty sure it combusted ONE TIME.

It was when I let my SO try the gh and she held the button for like 10 seconds instead of just clicking it (she didn't understood how it worked at first, it was my fault here). She got a lot of vapor after I turned it off and on again and explained how to use it. When I tried to use it afterwards, it burned and I felt a terrible taste of combustion in my tongue, followed by flashing red and blue lights and a rattling noise when heating up. Also it was changing from red to blue light in just 1 or 2 seconds instead of 3 to 5. I think it actually combusted just once and the nasty taste was there for like 4 or 5 sessions (4 pulls each).

I slammed hard the gh backend against the palm of my hands a few times (didn't wanted to knock against a table lol) and rotated quickly the temperature dial a few times from 1 to 5 (saw that 'fix' in the gh fix thread, thanks for that I guess).

This morning I tried to use it and for my surprise, no flashing red and blue lights and rattling noises, and it is producing delicious vapor like it should.

Maybe it's fixed? My warranty request it's still open and I can't add a new message, since I already posted 2 things in it.

Finally for the first time took a qtip dipped in iso and did a quick few swipes on both back end threads and got some black gunk. Definitey some kind of machinery grease I assume. Probably known by some of you already, but I recommend for everyone to do this first thing upon receiving your hoppers.
Here's another example of why we could use a dedicated grasshopper fixes thread! Thanks!!!

Can I suggest a "Grasshopper Fixes" thread? Maybe added to Resources? At a minimum, we could put this important fix, and the video of how to tighten the mouthpiece screen.

This is great info and too easily buried in this long thread. It would be great if all fixes were easily available just a click away. Just a thought...

What happened to the Fix thread? One minute there's a new room for Fixes and the next it seems to link back to the main GH room... ??

Here's another example of why we could use a dedicated grasshopper fixes thread! Thanks!!!

Multiple threads for the same device would lead to confusion and a management nightmare for the moderators. We have an alternate solution: collect the fixes and make a Resource. Of course this requires that someone adopt the problem and manage it.

For what it's worth, my unit still worked intimittently when it had a broken heat sensor, but ultimately it was not performing normally.

Hopefully they just send out a replacement body @lovecrush
Sorry to hear you've had such a short lived first round :(

Had same experience ended up getting a new body under warranty. Wasn't till I already tried the new body and was cleaning up the old one to send in did I notice it was working.

I email GHL and was told old body might be ok. Since only had one battery at time requested if I could return body after received new batteries.

Once batteries arrived spent about a week with both bodies. I ran muti bowls at different temps on both. I found no difference in performances.

Ended up keeping the original body in the end. The new one was more of a shiny metal and didn't match the tip and backend as well.

It has been running fine the last month. Can run it at 5 thru water and can't combust. Guess a test would be to run it at high if combust again it's a issue. Also guess could try starting at 1 and trying slowly move up the dial see if different temperatures. I would think if sensor was shot it be stuck on high.

That's nice to know. It is working perfectly since I did these steps above, but I will wait on the new backend and see if there is any differences between them. I'm about to clean the backend threads with a q-tip dipped in iso to see if there is any kind of gunk in it.

Perhaps there is some debris in the temp dial gap that got shifted around. I would keep working the temp dial if I were you.

I was the one who posted that fix. What worked for me was moving the temp dial very fast from min to max. You might want to try going faster until it feels smooth.

If that doesn't work I would remove the backend and clean the gap with isopropyl alcohol.
High five bro! You just saved my GH.
Don't know who will take care of that hypothétique Ressource, but it should crédit you.

Still absolutely love the GH. My back end has been getting hotter and hotter over time. I am a one pull and done user...and I click it off before finishing...always. Still..the back end seems hotter than the heater end during a 15 second use. I notice absolutely zero functional deficiencies....the GH seems to work perfectly despite the heat generated at the back. The back end is borderline too hot to hold...especially if grasped firmly. Though subjective, it would be hard to call this back end heat "warm"...its hot...and once the button is pushed...you can feel it heat up like a stove coil.

I sent GH a warranty request and they VERY quickly sent a new back end which I should receive in the mail today. I couldn't have expected such a quick response from any company...the service was very quick and very easy. I'll report back after I receive and try out the new back end.

No complaints...my GH never stopped truly functioning ...and a supposed repair is on the way. I am then instructed to ship the back end to Hopper...which will cost me only a few dollars. If the new back end provides remedy...I'll be calling this the easiest warranty repair ever.

Edit: Ha...just got it in the mail. Quick test...just heated it up on 3, 4, and 5 without material in the chamber while grasping the back end....no heat. Yippeee!! I freaking love this thing.

I also had a backend that was getting warmer over time. It was not yet to the point of being what I would call hot.

Thanks to a post by @GreenHopper I discovered a potential fix. What I did was hold the clip with one hand while rapidly moving the temp dial from minimum to maximum. I moved it as fast as I could for 5-10 seconds. The movement got smoother as I did this. I did this with the Grasshopper turned off.

I actually did this in the middle of a chamber, between hits. The next hit the backend stayed completely cool, I'm talking room temperature. That is how my hopper worked for the first few weeks.

If your new backend gradually gets hotter you might want to try this fix. Here's my original post with a little more detail:

I found that very interesting, especially the part about the temp dial. Thanks for posting it.

My backend has slowly been getting warmer the past week or two. It's more noticeable on one of my two batteries. It's not "hot" yet, so I didn't think it was broken and figured I'd wait till I get my preorder if I chose to do anything about it.

I had a half used chamber in my Grasshopper while I was reading that post, so I didn't want to mess with iso obviously.

I decided to just try moving the temp dial back and forth as mentioned in the Reddit post you quoted. I held the clip with one hand and rotated the temp dial very fast between minimum and maximum. The movement smoothed out while I did this. I probably did that for 5-10 seconds, and then set it back to 4, my usual temp setting.

I was amazed to find that the backend is no longer getting warm. On my "bad" battery it does get a tiny bit warm, but it's barely perceptible. On the good battery it is as cool as a room temperature Grasshopper.

My guess is there was some lint or dust or grease in there. It looked clean but due to the nature of the hopper's electrical connections even a tiny speck of dust could potentially cause issues. I use the leather sleeve which leaves the dial exposed, and I also always recharge externally, so I unscrew the backend a lot. A little maintenance is to be expected, but it was way easier to fix than I expected.

It could be a coincidence but it's worth a try at least for anyone with a hot backend. I should note that my backend never felt hot enough to burn me, but it was gradually getting warmer as the days went by.

Vapetrees

Vaped Out
When the cap on a titanium grasshopper remains a bit loose, unscrewed a turn or two, performance improves.

The tip stays cooler.
The vapor stream is cooler.
Extraction efficiency improves.

All are subtle effects. Because the threading is so narrow not much air can get thru between cap and body threads especially when tightened, but the cap is slightly larger in diameter on this grasshopper and allows air to go between cap and body threading rather than through the narrow thread channels. Unscrewing the cap a bit then opens this fresh air pathway.

Much like the vapman mixes in fresh air with vapor and same with an mflb when mixing fresh with vapor on the draw, the extraction improves due to the air stream stabilization from mixing the two air streams.
You're right! I just tried it lol. It does feel cooler, also as I was hitting it unscrewed I then tightened it and it felt more harsh. I will keep trying it this way.

My 5 batteries just live for 2 months. Means, I need every two month 5 new batteries.

Does anyone know what type of battery is used? I don't see anything in the description on the GH website... Lithium-Ion? NiCad? Grapefruit Juice and Baking Soda?

If you go through 5 batteries in 2 months, then for the sake of math let's say that you go through 1 battery in 1/5th of 2 months, which is roughly 2 weeks. One brand new battery only lasts you 2 weeks before it's "dead"?? Sorry if I don't understand but this is very worrisome information.

Multiple threads for the same device would lead to confusion and a management nightmare for the moderators. We have an alternate solution: collect the fixes and make a Resource. Of course this requires that someone adopt the problem and manage it.

Y'know, if I had anything to do with GHL, I'd have a product forum right on the GH website; monitored, of course, for BS. Their flow-chart is pretty good, no doubt, but these gems coming up on here like @Vapor_Eyes Fix need to be made findable. Hell, it might even make GH's life easier with less warranty claims!

I purchased some Grasshopper accessories from Delta 3D Studios and got a free B-Stock water adapter because my order was over $10. I didn't own any of the applicable vapes, but it seemed the Crafty / Mighty Mouthpiece Waterpipe Adapter (14mm) would work with my Grasshopper.

You have to press the hopper against the silicone to get a nice seal, but it works great! I actually prefer using it over the silicone tip that comes with the hopper.

Something to keep in mind if you're buying hopper accessories from @Ratchett .

I know a few others mentioned it in the past, but last night I was playing around with some of my Silicon tubing and found it works GREAT as a whip for the hopper - takes a bit of effort to insert the hopper, but I'm getting huge clouds, and my lips aren't burning! :D

k4hhxcJ.jpg

Now I need to dig for a nice glass mouthpiece to pair with the whip

Tried this a few days ago and forgot to mention. Vapor came in pretty smooth on 4 or 4.25 and i was soon blowing massive clouds. It was hard to know how damn big the hits were until i exhaled.
