I assume you'd do this for making edibles etc as you don't need to for vaping, correct?

Mighty min temp is 40 C or about 105 F so yes it can be done but would kinda be a pain in the arse since the amount would be so small and the hassle factor so great :).
Making it an even bigger pain is the automatic 2 minute shutoff (1 min on older units).

But if you really had to you could pack a bowl and set at 225 F, watch TV and take a slow pull every 30 seconds to distribute the heat and keep it on, and do this for 90- 120 minutes.

Do you have a stovetop/ a way to heat water to 200 F and submerge a bottle of bud? Or a crockpot to run the bottled bud in?

It's doable but WAY WAY more work than many other methods !!!
well im trying to be more scientific.

for example, instead of using 14 grams of AVB im using 1.5 grams of weed, and some soy lechtin and using many different ratios of weed to coconut oil... This way I can find the right formula. I bought me a black and decker oven toaster and a real oven thermometer to check the temp inside.... so I put it in aluminum dish like this

k2-_880afdc2-12db-4e73-9493-3819da2b7c07.v1.jpg

and then wrapped it with tin foil.... left it on 220 for 20 minutes give or take.

I just did this with 1.5 grams of weed of good green this way Im not wasting weed. the greens always get me high, so in theory, it should get my higher in oil

is it true the oil will only work with weed with crystals in it? or any good potent weed will work?

now that im checking the temps on my crack pot, it doesnt get hot at 90c which it should

220 F for 20 minutes is WAY short of decarb time. I'd do at least 90 minutes at 220.
Unless you are doing some other decarbing later or ???

an hour an a half? Whats the correct temp to do it at to make it fast, an hour and a half is a long time I think to leave bud in the over..

this batch was a failure also. Strange im not even catching a buzz off of my experiments...

Well did you only decarb for a total time of 20 minutes ate 220 F.
That is not enough to decarb.
I can't advise at faster times as I err on the side of lower temps to make sure terps are preserved.

Maybe others here can help--- I'm guessing at 245F, you could do 30 minutes. Search for a that if you want/need the fastest oven time.

Just remember that decarbing for too short of a time and you are SOL, wasted edibles.
I always go a little longer as it's better to be safe (go longer) than sorry (not enough time) ;)

It's your bud and the charts are imprecise as the starting product makes a difference---fresher bud takes longer as older cured bud decarbs slowly over time.

Good tip...always leave it a bit longer...thank the man for it later...Also dropping your temperatures will preserve a bit more terps, but will make the duration longer and the certainty that it is done lower...

Then you get it pinpointed for one strain at a certain stage of curing/drying, next batch you try you will have to figure out the right time once more.

But I use as a general measurement, 130C for 45minutes.

I do however prefer to get my product in an oil/extract form first. This makes the decarb process a lot more visible and easier to see feedback of when it is actually done. Little bubbles indicate the carbon molecule escaping from the oil, when one sees a noticable drop in number of little bubbles appearing you are done. But, this only works if it is allready in an oily/extracted form, it will not work with plant matter nor with infusions in other oils as far as I know.

Another good indicator for decarbing flowers for me has always been my nose. I know we are talking about preserving terps here at the same time, but when coocking I consider that to be less important then the decarb process.

Once your flowers smell like the familiar popcorn smell of vaped weed you know you are good to go...

Based on all my research ... I just tried something new (that I haven't found posted anywhere on the Internet).

What I did is I decarboxylated my cannabis in the crock pot on low, inside a small silicone loaf pan covered with foil. I first tested this to see the temperatures reached ... and my results with the silicone pan empty were that it takes about 10 min to get to 210F or so ... and reaches 230-240 within 20 minutes, so I ran it for an hour and 10 minutes shaking a couple times throughout. I settled on this as my toaster oven after testing could not maintain a consistent low enough heat, whereas the crock pot seemed to be bang on.

is there any point in making brownies with vaped herbs that went thru 360-390F?

Absolutely, all my ABV has been finished at 440 F and it still has goodies remaining

I guess it depends on the vape?

I haven't been able to get honest to goodness decent edibles out of anything I run through the herbalAire. Not to say they do nothing, but the best results I have ever had just yielded something that was a little sleepy and not effective for my symptoms. I do thoroughly vape my herbs, but rarely go over 385F. I guess it also matters how many passes (draws or bags) you make and if you go until the load is entirely exhausted. I have tried everything from tinctures to edibles and haven't had luck, it seems you can't concentrate it enough for my needs. I have thought about trying to ISO wash some vaped bud, but never got around to it as I didn't see a whole lot of promise in the end result for my needs.

There are some times I have loaded too much in the vape and only end up doing one bag because it is just too strong. I'll usually turn it off and discard the used herb, but I suspect if I saved these I might get something viable.

I just think with anything extracted to the point where it doesn't produce much vapor in the herbalAire really doesn't have much left in it. I have been wanting to lab test some ABV/AVB to see how much it really does extract and what is leftover, but labs in Canada aren't really able to handle the substance legally. I am a med patient so it is legal in my hands, but once it goes into another it becomes an illegal substance again.

@stinkytofus I've used already vaped cannabis from my Solo before into a milkshake and it hit me like a train. I over did it and was too medicated. So be careful - ABV can be very potent. Try a little at a time. I would start with a tablespoon and work from there.

Ive used ABV in a brownie recipe. It turned out pretty potent. I gave some away to a friend and I told him be careful. He ate too many and over did it.

There needs to be little flakes of light colored brown amongst the darker brown. I had run my Solo at temp 4 and I believe that is around 380 degrees.

Hello fellow connoisseurs,

I am a fan of coconut oil capsules and have been making them for years with pretty good results. I have wondered for some time why it is recommended to decarb before the cooking process as a the first step?

My process for these caps are usually as follows, combine desired amt of herb and coconut oil in crock pot (I have a tiny one with max temp around 210-220) and I usually 'set it and forget it'., I will give it the occasional stir but my cook times are anywhere from 3-6 hours and I have stellar results. Still haven't figured out for how many hours exactly is the golden ticket.

If you are planning on cooking with the herb, I wonder why it is suggested so much to decarb before via oven or the nova. When i was reading the review of the Magical Butter Machine by OldHippie, in the comments he suggested to decarb before putting the herb into the machine, I have also heard this mentioned on reddit but i am not sure why?
Is this a matter of decarbing via air vs solvent? Is it more efficient to decarb via air compared to coconut oil? Even if the decarb in oil is in the right zone as far as temps and extended cook times?

I was planning on preparing a large batch of caps and have been thinking about this a good amount. I have thought about this in the past, but paid it no attention since I have been successful all this time, but after reading more and more about decarbing before the crock pot I wondered if perhaps I am missing out on the full potential.

When you decarb before you make edibles, is it more sleepy/heavy affect like when one eats AVB? Is this why it is considered more potent?

** apologies in advance if this is hard to read, so many thoughts about this combined with GSC

Been makIng medibles for many years.
The absolute best dcarb method is to naturaly decarb 6months+. Best results are obtained after a 12 months decarb.
Search growgoddes ndsap.

That way you can preserve all the volotaile terpens and flavinoids.

Onece you tried it there is noch going back. Supierior to everything else I have tried over the years.:myday:

My method is to grind flowers, put in a pie tin. Fill a spray bottle with everclear and lightly spay the ground herb with it (make sure to empty spray bottle when done, wash it out and run water through the tube, as everclear can eat through some plastics). cover pie tin with foil, preheat oven and bake @ 250 f for 30 min.

Concentrates on a piece of parchment paper in the oven at 275F for about 5 minutes. I watch for bubbles to stop then pull it and mix with a fat/oil and lechetin while it's still warm. At that point it's either medible oil to take by the teaspoon or it's infused oil ready for bake or no-bake recipes.

Since I started using concentrates I've had the most luck.

As an experiment last night making firecrackers with fresh bud for two I used the Magical Butter Machine only for the decarb with a very small amount, pre ground. Ran at 160 for one hour. The results were phenomenal - much better than I've experienced decarbing the same at 240 in a convection oven (with an internal thermometer). Check it out if you have a machine. Also, I suggest almond butter for firecrackers as an alternative to peanut butter. It tastes I think much better and has the same fat content.

I have been decarbing Ice Hash in coco oil. Just a little bit of coco oil
in a Pyrex measuring cup and crumble in the hash, it will start to melt
right in. After 15 minutes cool it off, then put it in the freezer.
Chip a piece off and eat with yogurt. Best pain killer ever!

Thank you for posting this suggestion. The last two times I made fresh bud firecrackers (last two nights) I added this step not using Everclear but a 96 percent alcohol re certified spirit prior to the decarb. I won't use a spray mister; even if it's BPA free plastic it's probably not a great idea with alcohol. So, I grind up a bit of bud and place it into an small oven safe pryex bowl I'll add some drops of the alcohol and swish it around with a toothpick - it's the same result. Then wrap it in foil and bake for an hour at 240 using an oven thermometer to monitor for fluctuations. When my Nova decarb machine arrives this will ease up and fine tune the decarb but this works fine enough for now.

The result - the effect of the firecrackers have been significantly stronger since adding the alcohol.

I can fully recommend this. Worked perfectly without any smell. With a kitchen thermometer you can decarb on point (temp wise) and you can tell the time when the material is fully decarbed by monitoring the bubbles.

I am very worried that I will burn my goodies above 220*F so I bake at 160-180 for 3 hours and I don't let it get fully crispy. I feel like this is a newbie mistake as I'm not sure if they actually work...

years ago I had this book called marijuana potency it said preheat to 200 f(make sure oven temp is accurate) turn off the oven and put the bud on a cookie sheet covered in news paper for twenty minutes . vaporization above 301 f should convert the thcA to thc
